Reasonably priced gas and one of the few working air tire pumps in the area.

It's a normal convenience store in many respects, but a memory from a long-ago Super Bowl visit…read morebrought me back...for the food (the fact that it is literally around the corner from our Airbnb did not hurt, either). The memory in question was about a catfish poboy wherein I ordered it and the cashier washed her hands, dredged a fresh catfish filet through an egg wash and cornmeal, prepped the roll, and voila! It was heavenly. 12+ years later, the menu only said "fish" poboy sandwich. If you're a catfish purist like myself, that's a red flag, so I went with the fried chicken. My wife ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich despite the geographical incongruity. Both were outstanding, and I can't recommend the kitchen enough.

They were frying up a new batch when we arrived so we waited about 15 minutes but SOOO WORTH! The chicken from the fresh batch was fried to optimal crispiness and juiciness and it was also perfectly seasoned. I don't think there's another place that tops the fried chicken here. On our road trip back from NYC to LA, the only place we stopped at in New Orleans was this spot again. It can't top the time we got it fresh, but if there's anywhere you have to stop by in New Orleans, I gotta say it's this unassuming gas station with the most gas fried chicken.

Same thing-- after I stopped pumping, the machine kept adding up charges for invisible gas. So much for that "calibration" the clerk kept insisting on. That place robbed me of $6 at the pump and lord knows how many other folks, who didn't catch the glitch! Buyers beware, unless you enjoy paying for gas that you never put in your car.

Pepsi & Ruffles - Woo-hoo!…read more SITREP I couldn't ask for more from the Exxon Mini-Mart across the street from Hotel Modern that has got the munchies and beverages I like for cheap! THE SETUP I am not a big fan of hotel temptations & their placement of expensive LITTLE bottles of alcohol & cans of soda in my hotel fridge. Nor the clever product place of little bags of chips and chex mix for $3 in drawers next to my FREAKIN BED! So the way I HAVE to combat this during my stay here is get inexpensive munchie and beverage options to COMBAT temptation in my own room. MUNCHIES GALORE They had all sorts of cool stuff, but I settle on a big bag of ruffles for $4. The BEST deals here, however, were on my Diet Pepsi - I got 3 2LTR bottles for only $4 as well! Will I be able to finish them over the 4 day-stay? MAYBE. But that wasn't the point. Compare that to the little cans of soda and bottles of tea in hotels and other hotel stores ranging upward to $2-$3 themselves. So I'm ready for when I'm thirsty, and for when I get a mid-night attack for something crunchy and salty. And it won't cost me an arm and a leg in room service charges. THE LOWDOWN Props to Exxon 5-1901 for having my crap, at great prices, for when I need it! [P.S. On the Yelp survey question below that asks about "Parking", I'm checking the box that says, "Valet"] ;)
