I was excited! I was craving a yummy corn dog, not a gas station one. Anyhoo, we showed up just before close and most dog choices were sold out (because they are SOOO YUMMY). After talking with Shon and explaining this was our first time here, he dug around in his remaining inventory to find us each a dog we would like. Yay! OMG! SOOOOO GOOOOOD!! You must stop by!! Maybe I was unlucky. Maybe it was something else I ate, but this tasted amazing until my stomach decided to revolt. I did notice a lack of hand washing and gloves which the team inside made the hotdogs (toppings pinched and sprinkled on) and fries (again, hands straight in the bowl) and then running food to customers in the adjacent picnic table area; all without even looking at a sink. I've never tried this place but it's been around since 1996 and I guess my mom used to go here during her lunch break when she worked at Willoughby hearing aid center, but it was around not too far down the road. Great hot and it's hard to find a good hotdog place that really serves up the flavor the size and good quality like this and the milkshakes are delicious as well. I finally visited the iconic Franks-a-Lot on Sunday afternoon on a walk to the Laurelhurst Theatre. The two people working there were just the sweetest folks, very helpful and friendly. I appreciated their recommendations for a first time visitor. Quick service for my standard all beef corn dog. It was very good but I would have preferred the batter to be a bit crunchier. You can tell it's a homemade corn dog batter but, if he was to add a little sweetness it would be amazing!! Holy hot dog! This place has been on my radar ever since I went to India house (across the street). Went Friday evening around 630pm. Had a veggie chilli dog and my partner and I split a corn dog (just to try) with an Italian seasoned veggie dog. Oh my goodness the chili dog was so good, PACKED with red beans and the onions added the perfect crunch. It was so much food, I did have to eat a lot of the beans before I could pick up the dog and eat it but hey I ain't complaining! The corn dog was pretty good, I kind of wished the corn meal part was thicker but the veggie dog itself was an explosion of flavor. The dogs were dogs - nothing too special but hit the spot for sure. Franks-A-Lot is the "rill dill", folks: cheap, quick, delicious brats and krauts, savory, spicy or vegan (ugh!), on a stick or in a bun, all of them packing that potent pork piquancy, and customizable to your preferences, with every condiment you can imagine (although WAY too many people were ordering ketchup with their dogs, if you ask me)! Whatever your sausage selection, you are going to relish it...with or without relish! There's also an excellent selection of sides, salads, sodas to accompany your massive weiner: we sampled the potato salad (pretty sure it's just Reser's in a plastic container), along with our Red Hot Chicago Style, and a Spicy Oktoberfest corndog. My wife couldn't finish hers, as it was simply too much meat for her to handle at once, so she took half home to save it for later. As for my Red Hot Chicago, the only complaint is that it comes so overloaded with toppings, it's impossible to tackle it without a knife and fork. I was recommended to try this place before I move away from Portland. Finally made it there today. I had the bacon cheddar dog and the chili cheese fries. Both were delicious. The service was super friendly highly recommend. It's a very cute location. Outside seating only but they do also have a drive-through. After getting the healthy stuff at Whole Foods, this is a great pit stop, I mean, they have gluten-free corn dogs (they share oil) so it's good for you. Speaking of the gf corndog is not like those you find in the super market, well not as fluffy but tastes amazing. I do suggest waiting until it has cooled a bit. The hot dog is also amazing and HUGE. Decided to try this stand since it's close to my house and who doesn't love a hotdog! Along with recently seeing signs that a local business needed some love this slow season. however I was mistaken the staff made me feel like an inconvenience with my order and questions. Sad to see another small business struggling and would love to be a consistent customer but will not be returning. Ordered two dogs and was very disappointed. Is there ever really a bad hotdog? Not really, but thankfully Franks-A-Lot has great hotdogs. Every time I come here I like to try something different though, Red Hot Frank corn dog is my favorite. The onion rings are also stellar and is always an absolute order for me. I've never had a bad experience here, everyone is always friendly and nice, they are always fast to turn around orders despite how busy they can get during lunch. Frank a lot is located next to Whole Foods so it's convenient when you're on that grocery run. You can either drive thru or walk up. Yes there is a guy named Frank and the people that run this place are super nice, helpful and accommodating. There are lots of different types of dogs to choose from and you can have any of them either hot dog style or corn dog style. I enjoyed the Polish dog, corn dog style with a side of the hand cut fries/fry sauce. yes, the hand cut fries are delicious and don't forget the fry sauce.
