But I was in town with some time to kill, so naturally this was my lunch choice, and it did not disappoint. The ambiance of the place really sets the tone, and those coney dogs with meat sauce and onions just hit the spot perfectly. Nothing has changed in 40 years, save the price maybe. They still give you a card from a standard deck of cards to represent your order number when your food is ready. I was so excited to try this little joint.. I hate to give it only three stars because they customer service was excellent. They were the nicest people! I was so thoroughly disappointed in my food though.. granite I understand it's a hot dog burger joint..I ordered the Coney dog, basically a dog with mushy bread and a dripping watery sauce ..hubs got a jalapeño cheddar dog added coney sauce. When they delivered the fries, they looked fabulous, homemade and fresh from the fryer..but They were like soggy limp noodles! It was hard to even dip them in the fry sauce because they were just mushy. They did have a large burger menus and shakes that looked good. read more

I now understand why my favorite place gets such bad reviews. Their customer service is terrible. They can't hear the difference between Long and Short in person or over the phone. An incredible experience. My wife happened across this place by mistake and insisted we come back. Firstly it has SO much history and you can see that from all the articles plastered on the walls. It is definitely not built for large parties unless you sit outside; but I definitely recommend sitting inside at least once to fully experience the ambiance. The food is good. Both my wife had the double bacon cheese burger and split the coney fries. The burger is solid, maybe a little on the saucy side but everything is good and there's nothing to really complain about. The coney fries were a little bit of a let down. The fries feel handcut which is cool, but they weren't super crisp and the coney sauce didn't really stand out to me. But The HUGE selling point is really the price. To get a burger for 6 - 9$ is absolutely insane. I truly can't think of anywhere else where you can get this kind of value. This was the worst visit we have ever had here. Food took 20 + minutes for our food to be served. Other customers who came in and ordered after us were served before us. By the time we received our food our burgers were ice cold and fries soaked in grease We had to ask for the shake we ordered The cook who was a lady was rude when we had to ask where our food was, she said there working on it. Unfortunately I am rating 3 starts because the Coney Island was just too soggy and had too much sauce that was watery, there was also a lot of onions in my opinion. We also got a junior burger to try I thought it was good to the extent that it was also soggy because of the watery sauce. Otherwise the burger was good I'd order without the sauce. The French fries were good reminded me of five guys. They also aren't stingy with their soda syrup so 10/10 for that. The service was great no complaints they were all polite and helpful. Roake's is basically an old fashioned burger and fries spot. A lot of history inside so if you would like to get to know a bit more step inside. Outside is just a billboard with food options and they call out your order when ready. They provide a playing card so it's easy to distinguish your order from others. Tried a Roaker burger which was only $6.50 so fair price. Not the best burger but a good burger to try. Didn't try out the fries but they looked appealing. The staff was friendly and attentive. Good easy location off McLoughlin with enough parking on both sides. I would go back again to try a different food item and the fries. read more

The burger was big, the small fries were more like a large order, and ALL of the staff were friendly with smiles on their faces. I called in my order for pickup. I used to love this place! I have been going for yearssss. Their long dogs were something I used to craved. Today I got one and I have no idea what's going on but it is NOT THE SAME. There's some weird flavor going on that I cannot pin point and I am extremely disappointed. Is it the dog itself ? A different brand of relish? Something is different and NOT in a good way. I've been reading all over Google that many people have noticed a difference in their food, for the negative. I don't know what changed after the owner passed away but I went in May and the food did not taste like this. This may have been the last time I visit there and that saddens me very much. read more

I have been coming to the Roake's on McLoughin Blvd for over 30 years. If you enjoy a Coney Island Dog this is your place. They have Burger, fries to die for. They don't have onion rings. That's ok by me. My sister in law asked if there was a great place to eat. I took her there. Now that's what she wants all the time. It's a little shack with great tasting food. They have a small stool seating area. Usually the customers order from the outside window and they eat in their cars. They do have a parking area. If you're looking for a funky place to eat. We love the vibe, the food is amazing, the people working are so kind! I mean it just truly doesn't get better than this. The price is beyond reasonable, they could honestly charge way more for what you get. They don't skimp you on fries and they're very thorough on making sure you get everything you ordered. I was originally hearing to Taco Bell but husband was craving a burger so I turned into Roake's. It seemed busy with plenty of locals leaving with bags of food, so I assumed they must have good food. I was pleased to see they carried vegetarian burgers, so I told his and I wanted to eat here too. He wanted a super burger (not sure what it's called, but it comes with two patties), 2 coney fries, a veggie burger with a large Pepsi. We also bought my husband a tee-shirt, which are $20. I wish they would have offered cheese on the veggie burger because I didn't even think of asking husband to add cheese. The cashier whom was taking our order seemed new, as he would turn around and ask the older female worker what buttons to push a d where things were. So, I'm not going to dock a star for the fact we got a burger with one patty instead of two. Coney fries had shoestring fries, with chili sauce, topped with cheese. I'm sure it probably had meat in it, but I don't want to know as I am vegetarian and thought it was just going to be "sauce" not really knowing what coney sauce is. I ate it and it was good. Husband loved his food, despite his missing patty. He even made a comment about, I wish I had my second patty, because I'm still hungry. I apologized that his food wasn't made to order but he said, "No, I mean it was that good...". We were assured (without our receipt) that we were only charged for the regular one patty burger. My veggie burger looked meh, but it was sooooo freakin' good. I loved the thin crispiness in every bite. I couldn't even finish my coney fri s because I was so stuffed. Already have had one bad experience with getting not even a Luke warm Weiner for my watered down coney. Decided to wait a year and went down to order a simple Roaker burger with cheese with normal pickles and tomato. Wanted light crispy fries not burnt looking. Please picture of limp super oily fries. Had to take burger back in because had no tomato or pickles, just big cut raw onions. Got another one made with cheese sitting on top of meat like a cold sandwich. Took it off and was not happy at all for the over priced food. New owners should see that the clientele has dropped. Won't go back for any cost. Quality is so poor. read more

I've loved this place ever since I was a kid riding on the interurban trolley from The Oaks to Oregon City with my grandmother. On Google Earth using the satellite view you can still see the old trolley tracks under the pavement where they cross the big intersection there of SE Jennings and McLaughlin.
