A Tasty Stop at The Doghouse! The Doghouse in Portland offers a fun twist on classic favorites. I ordered two Chicago dogs along with their cheesy kicking fries. The plating and overall presentation were outstanding, and you can tell they take pride in the way their food looks when it hits the table. The Chicago dogs were good, but I felt the build could have been a bit closer to a traditional Chicago style. They were not bad by any means, just not quite at the "great" mark yet for that authentic Windy City bite. Man, I love this food cart. They have the best tots and their burgers are dependably great. They are under new ownership and it really shows... the staff is way friendlier and I love the way they are making their breakfast burritos with a runny egg in them now. I stopped in since, honestly, most of the other carts in this pod were closed. I'm definitely NOT a hot dog person, so something must have really been extraordinarily temping about the "Bacon Cheddar Dog" for me to order one here. Much unlike another brick-and-mortar "gourmet hot dog" place I reviewed, The Doghouse really knows how to do dress up an otherwise "normal" hot dog. The hot dogs here are served on a very large (what I suspect is a Costco hot dog) bun, which is absolutely filled to the brim with whatever style of hot dog topping you ordered. In my case, it was a comically large amount of perfectly cooked, crisp, and lean bacon over an overly generous amount of cheddar cheese. Somewhere underneath all of that is the actual hot dog. It was absolutely, amazingly, great! Despite the thoughtful proprietor's asking me if I wanted cutlery and happily supplying it, it didn't help me to eat it. These must be tackled head-on, with your hands getting rather messy in the process. It was absolutely worth it! The French fries were excellent as well...hot, crispy, flavorful, and fresh! They also offer burgers, including the Impossible Burger. I'll probably opt for one of those the next time. I've found that the better breakfast burritos are at Mexican food places, but there are standout exceptions like at the Doghouse. Too bad I don't like mushrooms because they're part of most of the creations at this cart. The Icognito - without mushrooms - was so good. The shredded potatoes are crisy, rather than cubed and boiled. The grilled onions and aioli complement it well. Likewise, the Love Actually was a winner. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the Siren's Call. It's the first option for breakfast burritos so maybe it's a crowd favorite. Size wise, the burritos are big and provide decent value compared to others in town. The soon-to-be new owner is cool. Parking can be tough. read more

First visit today, difficult to find parking on this Sunday noon. Even though the area was busy the truck court wasn't slammed. We placed an order and received our food quite fast. The service was very friendly! We ordered a bacon cheeseburger and a 'merican, with shoestring fries and tots. The burgers were very filling (3rd pounders) and very tasty with plentiful toppings. I was a tad bummed, as my 'merican didn't have crunchy smash style edges like the hubby's bacon burger...but it was still a fabulous burger. The fries and tots seemed straight out of the frozen bag, nothing special there...but the fry sauce...albeit thin, was yummy with a slight spice. A delightful place to get satisfying comfort food to-go. Service was pleasant, efficient, and properly masked for pandemic preparation and plating. I was craving a burger during a long absence from visiting carts, and the Doghouse came through with the Momentary Indiscretion - pleasantly messy with grilled mushrooms and onions, plus asiago cheese. My friend thoroughly enjoyed the Unexpected Perfection burger - with bacon, bleu cheese, and grilled onions. He opted for a serving of bbq sauce instead of ketchup, and was very happy with that choice. Came here based on a friend's recommendation and I highly recommend it. It is located in a food cart hub. There was a short line when we got there. I ordered their Naughty in Nogales which is bacon, pepper jack, grilled pineapple, onion, and jalapenos on tater tots. I requested that the topping was separated from the tater tots because I just love the crispiness of the tots. This is NOT a place for you to get a quick go-and-grab. The owner cooks the food to its finest. The tater tots are perfectly fried without oil seeping through. The grilled pineapples shine through the bacon and the melted pepper jack cheese. As one of my final meals on my Portland trip, I had hemmed and hawed searching yelp for a good option. It was the image of that crispy cheese that drew me in. Given that it was getting later, I hopped in the car and hightailed it eastbound to get in on some of this sorcery. Once I got up to the window the proprietor turned around the open sign. I made it just under the wire. This was the culinary equivalent of Indiana Jones sliding through the closing door with just enough time to stick an arm out and snag his fedora from an eternity away from its' person. Now these flavors were completely out of hand. These flavors were like Rodman and Malone in game 6 of the 98 finals. They were in your face and weren't taking any prisoners. The Night in Bangkok borrowed from the fools gold loaf and put the Doghouse spin on it. 10/10 would return. read more

The photos looked promising. I had 1 Night In Bangkok candied bacon, peanut butter, pickles, spicy garlic chili sauce and sesame oil. It was ok but super oily, the oil masked all the other flavors. I think I would trade that type of chili out with a garlic chili paste and nix the sesame oil. I also had, Kicked-Up Cheesy Fries asiago cheese, house garlic truffle aioli and house spicy aioli. As I stated in my previous review, I came back to give the tator tots a shot. I initially came to get both the 1 Night in Bangkok burger as well as some tots, but after my first unsatisfying experience with their burgers, I decided to only get the tots and get a wrap from Viking Soul Food. The lady noticed me from my prior review, so I'm glad to know they pay attention. Shows that they care. I gave the Naughty in Nogales a shot, and boy was I surprised. These tots came loaded and were excellent. Definitely changed my perspective of this place. The pineapple was a perfect kick to these tots, bacon and kicker sauce made it great, and it kept a great composure of slightly sweet and salty. These tots were satisfying and my co-worker after seeing mine ordered the same item for himself. Probably the best "loaded tots" or "nacho tots" I've had. I left more full from these tots than I did from the burger. This just goes to show that don't knock a place after trying something once. I still hold true to my first review as I felt that I have had much better burgers, but if the burgers don't satisfy my taste buds, there may be something else that will. I may be open to giving their burgers another shot now and regardless their tater tot platters are hands down delicious. read more

I went here last night with my husband for a snack. We got some beers from Scout which had a horrible beer selection (their only IPA was a ginger one) and decided to pair it with tots from Doghouse. I had the 1 Night in Bangkok burger for something a little different. Peanut butter, candied bacon, some kind of chili sauce, pickles. It was solid, not too spicy. Some mild hotness, but not like what you'd get from jalapeños or anything. I'd love to try more of their burger styles if I lived nearby. Default is cooked medium, I asked for medium-well which wasn't a problem. Last week the meteorology types were forecasting rain, rain, rain for all this week. Didn't happen. Instead, it has been invigoratingly dry and cool - with even sunshine at times. Ah spring, and those nascent plum and cherry blossoms! So what does this all mean? It means it's time to return to the food carts! Timbers Doghouse PDX is one of the new faces at Good Food Here, so I decided to check out their eats. I ordered their most basic burger, the Blissed Out Burger, containing a patty, mustard, ketchup, onions, pickles and lettuce. They have a tater tot mania here (tot bowls!) so I felt compelled to at least try the Tantalizing Tots. The burger was great. First of all the bun was soft and sturdy. If I may pause to editorialize a bit, I've seen a curious trend where many businesses are switching over to a genre of crappy buns that fall apart after a couple bites. Country Cat, Otto and Dot's - are your ears burning? I suspect they are from the same bakery. So kudos to Timber's for picking a good bun. I particularly like the smoky taste of the Blissed Out Burger. And the beef is high quality. Note: you can add another patty for a little over $2, but the single patty is plenty hearty in size and you likely will be satisfied with just the one. My tots were perfect - crispy and seasoned with black pepper and perhaps even a little garlic. P.S. Hopefully Yelp will fix Timber's address. Timbers is no longer in Woodstock, it's on Belmont. First of all I don't eat meat so I can't review their animal products but I can give a glowing review of their vegan menu. A drive into town , in the late morning , must include a stop for the best vegan breakfast burrito in all of pdx. Lots of tasty ingredients go into those burritos : grilled veggies , hashbrowns , chao cheese, just egg, yummy sauces and sausage ... I ate here chiefly for the "One Night in Bangkok" burger. It's so insane that it sounds like the best thing ever. Siracha? Peanut Butter? On a BURGER?! Are you crazy? It was good, but not great. I thought there was too much peanut butter, to the point where it made me wish I had 6 glasses of milk to wash it down. I'm also a spice hound, so I could've done with about triple the Siracha. I also felt the burger was a bit on the "well" side. (that could be my fault though, I didn't specify how I wanted it cooked) I also wish it was a bit bigger in size. Still, this place is super affordable...and even more so when you consider that the cows they kill for these burgers are GRASS FED. Grass fed beef is expensive people; you probably couldn't make a burger like this for much cheaper at your own house. So, there's that. Just got a tot bowl with bacon, grilled jalapeno and pineapple, and pepperjack cheese. Substituted sweet potato fries for the tots. Kind of looked like a mess and was oh so delicious. Fries had just the right amount of crisp and excellent flavor. All the ingredients tasted so good together. The service was excellent and the price was right.
