This is one of the new Franprix, with a test kitchen and fun seating arrangements and mochi you can buy right out of the freezer. Very clean, with an excellent selection, and just steps from Rue Montorgeuil. read more

I found the small store to be very well stocked with similar prices as monoprix/franprix which was awesome, as in the states, convenience-store like places are usually much higher. This sweet little grocery store was the first store I went to when I first arrived in Paris since…read moreit couldn't be more conveniently located than right across the tiny street from my hostel. It is in my heart because it has everything I could ever want in such a small storefront. It has a salad bar with a wide variety of veggies and other goodies to create your favorite salad to take away. Plus, they have a solid produce section. They have a variety of dairy milk alternatives and they have quite the variety of yogurts, as far as what kind of milk you're looking for. For example, dairy, goat, sheep, low-fat, full-fat, with a particular fruit. They have so much more including non-food products such as toiletries and miscellaneous hardware stuff. Everyone is really friendly encouraging you to work on learning French.

The store is convenient since they do open early and close fairly late. They have plenty of things and since they have two floors of space you can find almost everything you need on your vacation. If you are in the area this place is easy to shop in and you can pay cash or credit card.

The product section was not large but in general grocery stores in France and other countries are not big especially in the big cities like Paris selection is going to tight and limited. Tips. 1. Bring your own bags 2. Don't expect Winn Dixie Customer service 3. Looking for Lucky Charms isn't going to happen 4. Produce may look like it's expiring but it's not is still fresh and good. 5. The freezer section is going to be incredibly small and limited. 6. Expect a whole aisle of bottled waters Lastly, take pics and pick up bags of Lays flavored Roasted Chicken potato chips. Enjoy.

We only really used this grocer toward the beginning of the trip when we weren't yet familiar with our surroundings. If you venture out about 5 minutes, there's a large Carrefour Market with better selection. They have most things a groceries store would carry, just less selection; fruits, cereal, cookies, bread, cheese, milk, laundry detergent, snacks etc. Funny note: I went to the 8 à Huit after having gone to pick up a coffee from McDonald's. I put down my coffee cup to get money, and the cashier/owner picked up my cup and tried to scan it, and then consequently spilled half my coffee. I guess it was more frustrating than anything - have you seen me without my morning caffeine fix? Not pretty!

Pretty cool monoprix which has been around for a year (it replaced the hyper casino). It's been…read morefreshly renovated, and is beautiful, spacious, and clean. There is a bakery / food section up front (that you can go to without entering the main grocery store area) where you can buy lunch or a snack, as well as seating for you to eat what you have purchased. That's pretty sweet. The thing I don't like about this monoprix is the layout. It's like ikea- you are forced to go through ALL sections of the store - forced to pass through the beauty section, clothes, kids, hygiene, school supplies, kitchen, etc - in order to get what you want. It's basically like a maze. If you want to just grab something, you are forced to go through the whole store! And I could imagine it easy to get lost in if you're not familiar, and annoying if you forgot something and can't cut through the store. There are automatic checkouts here too, which is cool. Usually only 2-3 cashiers open at checkout.

Their hours are great (definitely not 35h workweek here!) and include holidays. They have free wifi (haven't tried it yet). Had lunch there today: basque pâté plate (a full pâté, not just a few slices, served with a few leaves of heart of lettuce), excellent. Bread is absolutely fabulous from Poujauran. Dish of the day was hachis parmentier with salad, excellent beef and mash with properly gratiné'd cheese on top. The ability to serve such a simple dish in this neighbourhood showcases their (justified) confidence in the quality of their products and is a refreshing lack of bs in Montparnasse. Suggested Languedoc red was perfect match, and not too raspy for a vin de pays. Café gourmand underlined their consistency with quality of desserts. Everything exceedingly fresh, biscuit à la cuillère crispy on outside, soft and melting on inside, hadn't had a non-industrial one in years. Epicerie next door stored with very fine and surprising products, mostly demonstrated through the restaurant's menu. They also have a bar and seem to be well stocked in liqueurs. Service was what traditional French should be: relaxed, not pushy in any way, excellent advice and humour. The atmosphere would work well for a cosy romantic dinner. This place restores my long-lost faith in the quality of French gastronomy!

The checking out process is a little chaotic but just be patient and you'll be fine. There are the normal self checkout debacles, (although their machines do let you choose your language of choice) so you can at least see where you failed in the scanning process. Which will just mean you will need to constantly flag down the poor store clerk that's working that area for the day. Every other item you scan will have an issue and that staffer is working with about 8ish self checkout station so again patience is the name of the game here. If you choose to go to an actual cashier that is supposed to assist you with buying your items, this experience will be hit or miss. Meaning only 1 or 2 lanes are actually open and the cashier either have a horrible attitude or they are very helpful. Today was the first time in a long time I had someone who was actually helpful. In this store there are mainly locals, so very little tourist action. But don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. But if you're like me, legit sometimes you don't want hotel food or eat out.
