The food cost was reasonable and the food was satisfying, would go again and try another item.

This place is under a new owner and now called heart of gold. Service was very slow and they were not very friendly. Food was fine. If we had seen how disgusting the bathrooms were before we ordered we would have just left. Can't imagine what state the kitchen is in. The place obviously needs some money invested to fix flooring and some other concerns before it could even be cleaned properly. read more

I had the Chicken Alfredo and garlic bread. The flavor of the pasta was outrageous, highly recommended. Salad was super fresh, my husband had the 11oz rib eye, we will be back to try 1 of everything we were so pleased. Staff is the best, friendly, attentive. Definitely my new go to!! read more

Fran's was an interesting experience. The inside was somewhat of a diner meets bar atmosphere. The waitress was friendly and our portion sizes were large for the prices. Unfortunately, they cook all of their food with canola oil. I had asked about it, was informed I was in the clear (not for the sausage but for the pancakes), and then still had a reaction upon finishing my meal. For this reason, I can only give Fran's 3 stars. However, my friends all enjoyed themselves! The best bang for your buck is the biscuits and gravy (not pictured). I don't think I've ever seen biscuits so large. read more

I'd love to leave a great review but,,,,Priced too high for little food. I can eat at Applebee's or Longhorn Steakhouse & get steak for less then a turkey club. Called for a carryout and ordered turkey club with only lettuce bacon and me Swiss cheese. Got home and it was ham?tomato,lettuce and bacon. I called to let them know. The lady that answered phone said she was too busy to listen to me. NEVER EVER WILL EAT OR RECOMMEND THIS DUMP AGAIN!!! Stay faraway. read more

When traveling, we like to get off the interstate & go where the locals go. The place looked promising, cool diner vibe so we thought all would be well....our mistake. We each ordered the daily special: meatloaf, mashed potatoes & gravy, pinto beans. You'd think the special would be the best thing, right??? WRONG!! For starters, it took quite awhile for the food to arrive, that should have told us, "run while you still have time!" but no, we stayed. The meatloaf had an odd sweetness to it, not at all good, the potatoes were of the instant variety as was the gravy. On the plate was a little bowl of pinto beans, straight from the can & we think watered down. And.....the portion size was small too. To add insult to injury, service was just fair AND the 2 specials & 2 iced teas were $25!! read more

Very bleh. I got Potato Soup with cornbread and a side salad. No flavor in the lukewarm soup and the salad was mostly onions. Service was friendly but incredibly slow and the place was not busy. Didn't try any of the coffee. Interior was dingy and bland, no music. Personally I would give this place a B- . The service was Okay, however the waitstaff were not informed properly as to what was on the menu. The Menu itself was confusing as it had typos, repeated itself and listed food that didn't exist. The only reason I stopped there was because the sign said they served pizza, and according to their menu they serve pizza and calzones. however they only serve that stuff on the weekends? So I got fried chicken, and it was excellent though it was a bit sweet. my coleslaw was great, the roll was excellent and my hash brown was basically fried mashed potatoes. the hashbrown was the worst part of my meal, but the chicken made up for it. The next time I'm in the area on a weekend I might try and get the pizza, otherwise it's not really on a list of places I'd like to go. read more

My family and I come here for pie and cappuccino when we're in town. Never disappoints. The service is friendly. The pies are homemade and artfully crafted. You must try the banana split pie - it was devine. They have a menu of dozens of cappuccino flavors. A lovely stop whenever we go. read more

Fran's taught me what sausage gravy can be, and why People seem to be obsessed with biscuits and gravy. (TL;DR: go for the biscuits and gravy! Delicious food, worth getting off the highway for, and someone is getting a leeeetle bit too obsessed with gravy.) I'm a bit of a food snob, so when we stopped at Fran's midway through a long drive I was not expecting to be impressed. I was impressed. I had the "all-in-one, scrambled eggs smothered in sausage gravy with a biscuit. It was ... revelatory. The sausage gravy was sausagey and baconey and ... and ... gravy-ey? Is that a word? There was too much of it, so as it came it overwhelmed the eggs, but I transferred some of it to the biscuit until the eggs and gravy balanced out, and the biscuit-and-gravy combination could make a signature meal by itself (and in fact does). I'd comment on the BLT and pancakes but my wife and kids inhaled them before I could tear my attention away from the gravy; the Belgian waffle was nice but not up to Belgian standards. It is definitely better with honey than with syrup though. They have an impressive selection of coffee flavorings, and it looks like they take their coffee reasonably seriously. Will definitely make this our regular stop on this drive. read more

Using Yelp, we always find the most wonderful out of the way restaurants when we travel. This was one of the best 'finds'. The best onion rings that I have ever tasted, and I am old! The banana split pie was to die for. We went for lunch so just had sandwiches and they were great tasting, nice crusty bread on my philly cheese steak sandwich. Mac and cheese and sloppy joes were great, too. Can't wait to try their calzone next time. The two women there were friendly and especially helpful. It doesn't look like much from the outside but definitely worth going out of your way for. read more

My wife and I have been here for breakfast twice since returning to live in West Virginia last summer. I remember this place being owned by several different folks when I was growing up in Nallen, WV in the 60's, 70' s and early 80's. This is the best it has ever been. Our server both times was "Thaddeus" and he was a complete professional enjoyment. I am a trained and successful executive chef, but I enjoy a good, old fashioned family dining experience like what I grew up with many years ago as a child in WV. We will most definitely now make this a regular experience once or twice a month as time allows. Sort of a "date-your-mate" experience that keeps our marriage alive and strong. Two thumbs up to Fran's and kudos to Thaddeus for the great service he provided. On a scall of 1-10, we give it a double 15!! read more

What a great little find! We stopped here while I was out doing some work in the area. We came in between lunch and dinner and were the only ones in the building. We were impressed with all the options available to us but the waitress suggested burgers, hot dogs and fresh fries. I stuck with a small house salad and my husband opted for a double cheeseburger with "fresh fries", which the waitress informed us meant they cut them in house. We were told everything was made to order and we knew we were there at an off time so we expected a bit of a wait but everything came out at a reasonable time. My husband really enjoyed his burger but the best thing on the menu (besides the pie - more on that later) was the fries! Just like you get at the fair but less greasy and "old" tasting! Delicious! I really enjoyed my side salad! Even though it was just basic iceberg lettuce, it came with shredded carrots and cheese and fresh homemade SOFT croutons that were amazing and homemade ranch that was so good!! Like I said, though, don't leave without grabbing a slice of pie. My husband grew up on some the best graham cracker pie from an old "family" recipe and this was just as good as that!!!! Very impressed! And reasonably priced!! My husband states that if we are ever in the area again it will be mandatory to stop in and taste whatever Fran has cooking!! read more
