The Volunteers of America thrift store in Brunswick is a really good thrift store. This is a large…read morestore with a very nice selection of both clothes, bric a brack and other assorted items. The store itself is well set up, clean and well organized. Because of the location this store gets higher quality donations, and higher end items. The store has two colors each week, one color is half off, the other is 75% off. The store is organized with 2 levels of clothing, I have found a number of nice shirts and suit jackets here including a really cool Las Vegas themed jacket that was virtually new. I also find interesting art and decor pieces at this store. The back half of the store has the art, kitchen ware, electronics, toys, sporting goods and other assorted stuff. It is also well worth your time to check out the glass counters with the jewelry and the higher end items on the shelves behind them; this is where you can find some of the really premium finds. Looking at some of the other Yelp reviews it seems that since the VOA moved from down the road some people are disappointed since the current store is generally more expensive, but for me it seems that there is still really good value here, the question is whether you want to pay a bit more for better purchases. I really like this thrift store, one of the best looking, best organized stores with great values, you just might not find really cheap stuff.

This year after having dug deep into how they use their monies and how they handle putting donations on the shelves!!!! I decided they would NEVER ever get one more item from me so today i boxed up 4-5 large boxes along with with some loose pillows and things and drove to the Salvation Army Thrift store in Strongsville. I had visited this site 4-5 weeks ago to see how THEY operate, the kinds of things they have on their shelves and how knowledgeable and helpful employees were. Much to my chagrin today, i walked in the rear entry door with my first box where no one greeted me nor were there more than 1-2 folks within earshot for me to call out to. The ENTIRE back room where their donated goods was overloaded and in a SHAMELESS shambles. I saw no one with any sense of urgency. I continued with the rest of my boxes and items placing them where i thought they would fit, not FALL OVER and left in a huff. There were 'prepared receipts' on clipboards for anyone to fill in what they want for IRS donations. Big Brother is apparently not watching. The retail store is scantily stocked when they could be loading up their shelves and making real some money but no, disinterested folks are lolling around talking to each other about last evenings tv show. Apparently, nobody has any needs in the poorer sections of Cleveland Ohio since nobody HERE had any interest in their jobs nor helping the less fortunate. I could run rings around the folks in this store, organize it, load up the retail store and help others. I worked for an international non profit for almost 20 years so i know how it gets done. I will never return to this store or any other Salvation Army (bellringers included) nor Goodwill. I will seek out a more needy organization who uses, appreciates and cares about donations.

Cashier was so kind to the black woman in front of us example: take your time, make sure you out everything in your purse etc. when it can to us (2 elderly white women) no personality, I don't know the price, 2 prices on same item, snappy remark to our question if how long it will take. Then when my friend said just forget it, I'll get my other stuff, she threw the wreath like it was a piece of shit. Where is the pride in your job, don't want to work, quit. They don't need people with lack of customer service skills.
