Wow, what a great little park. I expected the concrete path and the security fence to "protect" us,…read morebut what I didn't expect were the many benches and garden areas along the way. Even nearly 18 months after it opened, it still was graffiti free and looking nice. Plus, it overlooked the river and TWO different sets of railroad tracks. Seeing three trains go by while were were playing on it certainly boosted this railfan's review! (And, unbelievably, my cousin who was on one of the Amtrak trains and lives in NYC spotted us train watching as she rolled by!) We traveled over from the Corning Preserve to Quackenbush square, walked around a bit, and came back. Our toddler liked it when we kicked a rubber ball along the walkway (hot tip: if you kick it and he doesn't get it, you better run because it will roll down the hill!) There wasn't a lot of shade but it was overcast that day so it worked out. It isn't a huge "park" but it sure beats a barely used highway ramp which is what it used to be. The fact that you can get a nice, different perspective of the downtown area makes it a fun place to explore for a little while. And it is free. And... it is near trains. Don't wake me... I must be dreaming.

The only thing is they really need to do is put lines in the parking lot. Turns out you can't put videos on this and all my really cool pictures of the Corning preserve were videos. It's really a fun drive it's really nice calm pretty you can smell the fresh air in the river. There's lots of food places downtown to try. It's a nice little day trip.

Also known as the…read more"Corning City Preserve," this park located between I-787 and the Hudson River is a long, narrow place that is perfect for walking above the water or perhaps resting and catching up with friends on one of its many benches. Located on the southern portion is an amphitheater of sorts (named "Jennings Landing") where Alive at Five concerts are held in the summer. A beautiful bridge goes over the train tracks and I-787 to connect this area with downtown Albany. There is also a couple of small ponds, a playground area for the children, and open spaces for Frisbee or picnics. The "Mohawk Hudson Hike-Bike Trail" continues north from here. I find driving into the area a little confusing as Quay Street is one-way only and you have to be heading north on I-787. I find it much easier to park at the free lots on Water Street and walk in. Just a word of caution... It can get a bit dark at night and there are some "regulars" who stay here throughout the night.

The Helderberg-Hudson rail trail runs from the south end of Albany out to Voorheesville. The…read morebeginning of the trail in Albany, while convenient, is really not attractive. You need to get past the port before it turns quiet and tree-lined. I've only gone probably 6 miles in to the trail but there are plenty of benches to stop and rest on. It's paved, well maintained and has easily accessible access and parking lots. I saw signs for a pop up beer garden on the trail so that's definitely a plus The only issue I have is that the mile markers make no sense. The trail starts on Rt. 32 but less than 1/4 mile in the mile marker says 2 miles.

It's wonderful for walking and riding a bike, as it's quite…read moreshady in many parts, the scenery is varied so there's always something new to look at as you go along the trail, and the people on the trail are generally very considerate of each other. As a walker and a biker, I have been on both sides and I would say that everyone really tries to follow the "rules" and watch out for each other. The only issues I have are: 1. I so wish the trail were longer! Nine miles is relatively short when you're biking. 2. While I appreciate the efforts to maintain the trail, it is a bit frustrating when there are multiple full sized trucks on the trail leaving bikes about a foot of room to pass. One week, there were trucks almost every day. 3. I wish more people would pick up after their dogs. There's quite a bit of dog poop in the 3 miles from Delmar to Albany. All and all, I have thoroughly enjoyed the trail this summer and am looking forward to the beauty that fall will likely bring!

This has always been my favorite park in Albany to walk through casually and great for spending a…read moremorning or afternoon at. The park is moderately large sized and during the annual Tulip Festival, parking is hard to come by, otherwise is okay any other day. The park has a center stage fountain and many beds of flowers. In my opinion, it's the most beautiful in April and May, when all the tulips are in full blossom. There are also several trail areas to walk and during the Tulip Fest, the area is totally filled with food trucks and vendors. Year after year, there is an increased amount of food trucks and vendors, which seems to show how it has become largely popular. I enjoy my visits to Washington Park whenever I am in the area and will most definitely do so in the future.

Various historical signs are placed throughout the park, so it's a fun place to explore a bit. I went recently for the first time last fall, I had driven by this spot many times and never stopped. This is a great outdoor space for teens and kids. There is a separate court closer to the lake, where there are 2 basketball courts. It is an all around fun spot to relax. Skateboarders are doing jumps and olleys over various steep obstacles, showing their boards and proficiency. Some make awesome high jumps and others narrowly avoid injury. I'm Not a skater at all but my son did enjoy this park. There's no shade directly over the park to shield you from the heat so bring a hat and lots of water!
