October 2025 I was grocery shopping about noon time on a Sunday, not super busy, but grocery prices are up. I noticed that the Check-out person was new, because they wear a badge related to the fact that they are new and trying to do their job. I took no offense, and I patiently let them do their job. Please note not one manager came by to check on them, or the customer ( and I have been a FredMeyers customer a long, long time) anyway, I got done, paid for my groceries, and mind you I was longer than 30 minutes in the checkout line, I hadn't been grocery shopping in over a month. Anyway, I'm pushing the grocery cart, pasted the jewelry shop to go outside, and I hear an alarm go off, but I hadn't no idea or clue that the alarm was my grocery cart, I did realize that I couldn't push the grocery cart, and yet nobody, not one store clerk, or manager came forward. And given the situation, and the fact I had no idea that alarm somewhere was my shopping cart, I then decided to drag the shopping cart, and to the point that I was now in the entrance of FredMeyers, and I was transferring my groceries into another shopping cart because I thought my shopping cart was faulty, and had something horribly broken with the wheels. I was embarrassed, and trying to stay out of the way of others entering the store, and still not one manager, not one store person came forward. Until the grocery person trying to return shopping carts got upset with me because I wouldn't move fast enough out of the way. And he finally said " oh this has been happening more and more!" And I said "what do you mean?" I was confused and had no clue as to what he was referring to. He stated " oh if you're in the checkout line to long your shopping cart will lock up when you're leaving!" And I said " really how come the Checkout person didn't just reset my shopping cart?" And he had no answer or idea. So I as a long time customer left FredMeyers upset, angry, frustrated, and incredibly embarrassed. So as I was sitting in my truck trying to stop sweating, and regain my composure, I decided to call and speak with the manager of the store. And they apologized, and noted that these type of incidents had been occurring more frequently because of Corporates decision. Definitely not warning their customers, and definitely not educating their employees to step up and assist the customer when they see something happening. I am only leaving a 1 star because the manager and the one box person were helpful. I now really think about whether I want to go into FredMeyers or not. I tell everyone I know my story, and I definitely speak up, if the check out process isn't going anywhere. So from the time you step into the checkout line you have half an hour, and if you've been there longer you better say something to the cashier person. And definitely don't expect assistance because from what I've seen yeah that's not happening unless you ask yourself. If you decide to use Carr's Store they no longer have cashier's after 9 pm at night, your left checkout your own groceries. And Walmart, well it's Walmart, and it depends on what's going on in that store. You better have your receipt with you when you leave. read more

This Fred Meyers location is insanely huge. Try to close your mouth once inside. The One Stop Shopping in their name, is not an over exaggeration. It's interesting because in Anchorage we have a few stand alone Fred Meyers locations that are easily much smaller than this one. This North Valley location is surprisingly a part of a large strip mall. The jewelry store is larger than any I've seen in a store like this. In addition to everything else you're used to seeing at Fred Meyer, they have a bank, oversized liquor store and optical eyewear front. The bathrooms are clean and seem to get refreshed on a regular schedule. All areas of the store seem larger than any Fred Meyer I've been to. One thing that especially stuck out to me is that every cooler/freezer seems to be enclosed. Here in Anchorage you can expect that in some areas of the store, but not the whole store. Definitely worth stopping by on your way to Talkeetna, Denali, etc. read more

They have everything you might want and a very friendly staff. It is a popular place with so many people, but I didn't have difficulty finding a parking spot. Exiting the lot was difficult due to traffic. It was a Saturday in the middle of summer, so I'm sure that is why the traffic was so bad. read more

Nice clean store that is well stocked and has surprisingly good vegan cupcakes that you cannot get in Anchorage. Like, wha? Being in Wasilla you do pay for the sales tax, but if you're heading to Valdez this is a good option for road snackies. Will come again. read more

Online ordering review: Info you need to know. If you order online, go around between the Fred Myers and A&W/KFC. There will be small parking area with numbered signs on you right before you get to the end of the Fred Myers building. I didn't know that the pickup area was located here. As a result, originally my review was lower. But after a conversation with my wife, I went up a star. My wife seems to say it was common knowledge that online orders would be picked up outside somewhere, usually around back. Good to know. When you arrive at the pick up, call The number on the sign and give them your sign number. They will be out in moments. If they couldn't find something (or were out) they find something else of comparable quality and add that to your order. They can easily take it off of you don't want it. A nice and quiet shopping experience. This Fred Meyer is like most I have been to. I wasn't impressed with their prices but you can pretty much shop for anything here. Most of the store was clean and tidy except for the produce department. It looked like a little tornado ran through there or something. Meh. High prices but you get coupons that make it close to Walmart pricing. You get fuel points for spending money. The pharmacist gets pissy when you ask about Covid shots and the length between different shots(tetanus) for interaction and the heavy metals they inject into the body. They space out children's shots, so why is the Covid so different? They tried to say children can't get the Covid shot, a 12 year young human is a CHILD! I told him that and he gave even more attitude "well I don't know what you want me to say". I don't know if this man sees it that way or if he is a danger... Excellent all in one superstore - like a Walmart and Ralphs combined. Even in Alaska, my Ralph's card was honored at Fred Meyers (Kroger owns Ralphs, Fred Meyers, Food 4 Less, etc). Was able to find unique Alaskan only items which I can get in California: wet box (approved for transporting fish thru airlines), fresh line caught halibut at $15/lb, whole salmon at $6/lb, king salmon fish jerky, birch syrup for pancakes, and ulu knives. read more

I received a notification that this location was going to have but 1 roast get one free. I stopped in at about 0935 on the date advertised for the start of the sale. The meat department told me they haven't even unloaded it from the truck yet and to come back tomorrow to pick up the roasts because they will still need to cut them and they probably won't get them out that day. I came back the next morning after dropping my son off at school bright and early and they informed me they sold out. How do they sell out within an hour or so of being open. The head of the meat department said well you missed it not our fault, when in fact the meat department were the ones that instructed me to come back the next day. I wouldn't be upset at all if I had just missed it but the fact I did as instructed then looked at like I was the fool for not coming in when they had them because they gave me false information! I even mentioned my frustration to the cashier who suggested I ask for a "rain check" since it was obviously not my fault and the same person in the meat department said no it was marketed as, "as supply lasts" you should have come in yesterday again after being instructed to come in tomorrow! read more

Produce section is hit and miss on if you get nice fruits or veggies. The freight on the floor blocking product and the don't give a shit attitude by the employees is annoying. Use to get cakes here but there haven't been any pretty ones now for a few months. Don't know why they make so many of those fruit tarts. Only a few checkout lanes are ever open. read more

Sometimes it's not always easy to find better prices at the gluten free section. Especially I go under $25. However, the prices are high. It's an okay store and all, but not always easy to find better prices. But that's okay, because I don't need to be in a bad mood about it. It's basically a slightly more expensive Wal-Mart. The staff is okay but at times can be rather hard to find. Also the liquor store staff (along with store management) is slightly less then impressive. Last time I went here I was carded upon crossing the liquor store threshold, carded again (by the same employee) at the register, carded a 3rd time as I walked out of the liquor store doors into the main store BEFORE getting to the main store doors (carded by one of the managers who said he was just making sure the employee carded my properly) and then a 4TH time as soon as I got out the doors I was approached by a member of their loss protection who asked me for my ID so he could affirm it was not a fake ID. (Mind you I was 22 at the time but with my beard I looked in my 30's). If the liquor store was having THAT big a problem with it's employees maybe they shouldn't have a liquor store. Other then getting carded as many times as an OCD washes their hands, the store is fairly clean and the staff (when you can find them) are fairly knowledgeable. read more

It's a Fred Meyer. It's big enough and has been remodeled / reorganized in the last year or so. Best time to shop this store is early in the morning. Once school lets out, or it's afternoon on the weekend don't even bother. It's insane and they usually don't have enough cashier lanes open. Not to mention the parking lot. read more

Not only is this store huge and has just about every brand of everything, but we had a specifically amazing experience here. We were on an Alaskan land tour and our group had about half an hour to stock up here before hitting the "wilds" (okay, so they weren't that wild) of Alaska and during my mad rush to stock up, I came across a well dressed gentleman in a checkered button-down shirt with a store name tag on and proceeded to ask him where certain very specific items were (medicines, protein bars, certain types of drinks) and he not only politely and patiently pointed everything out, he actually led us through the cavernous store to each item and then onto the next. This guy was patient, kind and helpful probably to a greater degree than any other grocery store employee I've ever had dealings with. When we get to the register, I relay my experience to Carrie, the cashier and she says: Oh, that's Rob Fortin, our store manager. (!!) Best store manager I have ever come across in my life and I grocery shop daily in several stores (Ralph's, Von's, Albertson's, Costco, Smart & Final). Thanks Rob. Wow. I went and loaded up what I could carry in my arms. Scanned it all out. Came up to about $50. Needed some extra cash so I entered $40 cash back. Low and behold FRED MEYERS was going to charge me 50cents for cash back. I guess I would have been charged 50 cents if I was paying with $100. Well I didn't get my cash back or my $50 in groceries. Well I did get them at Walgreens. Plus I got my cash back with no charge. If we as a consumer don't stand up to BS like this the big companies will continue to take advantage of our hard earned money. By the way. Bag prices are built in to the cost of our purchase. There are just some things that warrant a one star... I drove out of my way and made a special effort to go to this location because, according to my Internet research, they were one a few stores open at 7 o'clock in the morning where I could buy a king salmon stamp, as I wanted to go fishing today. I got to this location at 7:15 AM, and the guy who was in charge of selling the salmon stamps at the sports desk told me he would not do it, because "he had other tasks he needed to do first" -- apparently he was doing other stuff, unrelated to the sports department, like unpacking boxes, etc. He told me it would be a while, at least half an hour. Thus, instead of being open as they were supposed to be, I am now driving across town to a different location... To Walmart... Not the end of the world of course, this is just a first world problem, and keeping all this in mind, they still deserve one star for failing to come through. read more

Their arts and crafts section is definitely better then Walmart, they have a huge selection of sketchbooks with different types of paper, different brands and a couple different kinds of coloring pencils, charcoal pencils and regular heavy and light pencil kits, erasers, paint, markers etc. I'm not sure about the markers or pens as I have not got into them but they have options. Was looking for a fan to pull air from my PS3. It's sits under a shelf so heat builds up. Didn't really find what I was looking for and an employee asked if I needed help finding anything, can't remember the guys name but it was the end of his shift, as I was doing self checkout he came up in his normal clothes on his own time because he had found a small USB powered fan in a different section and had asked if I was still wanting or in need of one. The fact that he took the time to help instead of just going home goes to show that he takes some pride in his job and likes to help people(thanks if you happen to see this). I've never had a bad experience with staff here, also note I never really go there when it's super busy. Store always seems clean. read more

I just wanted to say thank you. My husband and I always have good experiences with Fred Meyer but our experience today was exceptional. We were shopping for bark chips to finish our landscaping. As it was the end of the season we were looking for a discount as well. We talked with various competitors with the Store and ended up on the phone with a manager, Kyle. He helped us find what we needed and we chose to go with Fred Meyer. As we were buying in bulk (50 bags) we went in to the customer service portion of the store and asked if we could ring up there and then load from the gardening center. Taylor was working the customer service counter and made sure we got rung up and let us talk with Kyle who gathered a small team (Quentin and Kevin) to help us load all the bags. It's been awhile since I've seen customer service go the extra mile like this and wanted to express my thanks. read more

Long time shopper. With many family Rx's to fill my gas is usually at $1.05 discount which can really add up the savings. Yesterday I would have rated them 4 or 5 stars. But now I learned their actual corporate credit card policy for when the cashier errs: THEY REQUIRE THE CUSTOMER TO SIGN A TRANSACTION THAT BOTH PARTIES KNOW IS FALSE. Terrible customer service! An item came up higher than the price on the tag. The cashier said there was nothing he could do about it, so I cancelled my transaction and went to customer service. She told me it had been incorrectly priced on the tag and they would not honor that price. After I had argued with her for a few minutes I left with nothing. I had over $200 worth of kids clothes in my cart and the price difference on the item was $6. Bad choice on they're part, I will not be shopping there anymore. read more

I've been shopping here for 6 years and it is almost always an aggravating experience. The shelves are chronically understocked, which is weird because there always seem to be boxes in the aisles. I can never get everything on my list because they are always out of at least a few things I need. Just yesterday there were dozens of shelves almost totally bare, like it was the day before Thanksgiving or something. When I asked a produce guy about some baby carrots (which they were out of) he told me "the computer" automatically orders things, but doesn't always keep correct inventory numbers, so it won't order more because it thinks the store is stocked. Even when things are in stock, they aren't always good quality. Several times I've purchased things only to realize they had already expired, sometimes months ago. Between some items having long expired and others perpetually out of stock, it seems like a gang of monkeys might be in charge of inventory for this store. This isn't just a supplier problem because this never seems to be a problem at the Palmer or Anchorage Fred's. More than once I found conventional produce mixed in with the organic produce. I only shop here because they are the only place nearby to get a good variety of organic and natural products. I wish a whole foods or something would open up, I would switch in a heartbeat. read more
