Dr. Kogen performed our son's non-ritual circumcision almost a week ago. Everything went perfectly and he is healing beautifully! From his wonderful sense of humor, "Would you like a banana? We were referred to Dr. Kogen by the birth center helping us with our delivery. Dr. Kogen was very professional. He explained the procedure to us with great detail and patience. Communication was good before, during and after the procedure. We were very prepared to deal with our newborn son's recovery. Everything healed nicely and timely as Dr. Kogen told us it would. I said earlier that he was very professional but he also used just the right amount of humor to ease my anxieties. If you need a mohel or just need a circumcision, Dr. Kogen definitely your guy. We had our son circumcised on 2/9/2017 by Dr. Kogen. I can imagine how difficult it can be to have someone you never met before to come over for the first time and perform what I consider surgery. Well, we are super happy, that if it were to be anyone, it was Dr. Kogen! It was great! Being someone who needs/loves information, he sat with us for the first 20-30 minutes providing us with all the background, and step by step procedure he will use on our son. We went from being nervous about this day, to being confident and more calm then I thought we were going to be! He went in details about the after care, which gave us the confidence that we are good and know how to care for our first born child. The main procedure was less than a minute! He kissed our son and handed him over to me for a feeding. I felt that he treated our baby like it was his own, with love and care and precision. Thanks Dr. Kogen! He stayed for a while after the process to make sure all is well and that both parents had no questions and did one final check on baby before leaving. We just had our son circumcised 4 days ago by Dr Kogen. It was a wonderful experience (well as wonderful as a circumcision can be I guess ). I didn't want it to be done in the hospital for a few reasons. I didn't want to give him the vitamin K shot (loaded with preservatives so we chose to do oral drops at home), I don't like the method the hospital uses (watch a video and you'll understand), apparently hospitals mess up more often than you think (a friend of mine needs to get their son redone because it was not done correctly) and 3 I am Christian and wanted to do it the 8th day like the Bible says. Dr Kogen was wonderful. He was very thorough in his description to prepare us before hand and he really helped lighten the mood by joking and talking with us. The circumcision it's self was very fast! Took a min maybe even less which I was not expecting after watching the hospital circ. it's healing very well and doesn't seem to bother him at all any more. I definitely recommend Dr Kogen and guarantee you will be happy with your decision. Not only is it a more humane way to circumcise but you can also comfort your son immediately after its done. Fast forward to 9 months later. I realized I never posted this review. I still have the same feelings and 100% happy with everything. Amazing experience!! We had Dr. Kogen perform a non-ceremonial newborn circumcision for our 7 day old little boy (we are not Jewish). We are first time parents, so we were a little nervous about the whole thing. We had researched the mohel vs. hospital thing well ahead of time and had decided a non-hospital circ was the way to go for us. If you are looking for the same, I suggest you look no further. This guy is the best! THE BEST! He was so kind, courteous and professional. He walked us through the entire procedure beforehand, gave us very explicit after-care instructions, and performed an absolute beautiful and precise procedure. One cut, one minute, and the healing and post-procedure process has been absolutely seamless. The most noticeable takeaway we had from the whole thing is how much Dr. Kogen cares for you and your child. Just in the short time you get to know him, you can immediately tell how well he wants to do by you and your baby. In the end, we can't imagine doing anything differently. Dr Kogen did a great job with our son's circumcision. Although we are not Jewish, we wanted our son circumcised on the 8th day per biblical directions. Dr Kogen spent plenty of time explaining the entire procedure, after care and possible complications. We felt very confident in his expertise. The procedure went perfectly with no bleeding at all and very little afterwards. Our son cried for a minute and then it was over. Afterwards Dr Kogen stayed just to make sure it didn't start bleeding and to remind us of the after care. I could not be more please with Dr Kogen's service or the outcome. Dr. Kogen came highly recommended by several family members and my larger community. I still approached the Bris, however with uncertainty and fear; both of which were quickly alleviated when Dr. Kogen arrived on scene. Dr. Kogen did an incredible job at our son's bris yesterday. His service was hearfelt and enjoyable for our whole family - except maybe our son :). My wife had been dreading the bris since even before our son was born, but he made both of us feel very comfortable before and during the service. He mixed the right blend of religion, ritual, seriousness, tenderness and humor, which really set a perfect tone for the entire event. The circumcision itself was quick and came out perfect. He met with my wife and I for a little bit before the service to walk us through the whole thing and clearly go over how we needed to care for our son after the circumcision. He helped us include grandparents and uncles and aunts in the ceremony. He made a point to acknowledge the great grandparents, which meant a ton to them. We are a Christian family and when we decided to circumcise our son we knew we wanted a professional to perform the procedure, therefore decided on Dr Kogen. He was great from the first contact. After calling his answering line and leaving a message he got back to me within hours. During the circumcision it was just my husband and I, Dr Kogen explained the whole process and made us feel at ease. It was very quick, and afterwards I took my son in the living room to nurse him leaving my husband and Dr Kogen in the dining room. My husband said he wanted to get some air. As he stood at the back door motionless Dr Kogen talked to him with no response. He realized my husband was going to faint. He quickly grabbed him and helped him to the floor. He even placed a pillow under his head and elevated his feet. I thought they were joking when they told me. We all had a laugh after. He also had pictures that helped us visualize what would happen. He talked to us and made us feel like his family and we knew he was taking good care of our son. While we are not Jewish, I really liked the idea of having the circumcision at home and performed by a mohel who is, also, an MD. I'm so glad we went this route. I have 3 boys and have used Dr. Kogen for the last two circumcisions. I highly recommend Dr. Kogen if you are considering a Bris for your son. I liked him so much for my 2nd son I hired him again for my 3rd. Dr. Kogen is very professional, very friendly, and puts everyone at ease (the parents, the child and the guests). What's best about his work is the actual circumcision. His method is WAY BETTER than what we experienced with our first son. Our first son was strapped to a board, given an injection, and most of the procedure took 20 minutes upstairs before the actual Bris. It was painful for my son and painful for me to watch. And my son struggled with this during the Bris and the whole week after. But with Dr. Kogen, he uses a non-invasive topics ointment to relieve pain and the whole procedure takes about 3 minutes during the actual Bris. Both of my 2 sons that he worked with had very little discomfort during or after the procedure. In fact, the whole thing was like a non-event for them. So for those reasons, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Kogen as his method is far superior of the two we have experienced. Be sure to ask other Mohels what their procedure is like because at minimum you want the type the Dr. Kogen uses. But save yourself the trouble and just call Dr. Kogen. He will do right for you. I'd call him again without hesitation if I was having another boy. read more
