The front of the Burger Bar was illuminated in big red bold letters and the giant wedge fries were proudly positioned in the window for customers to salivate over. We pondered the wall menu for a bit then ordered the Classic Burger with fries and a soft drink combo. The chef tossed a big beef patty onto the flat grill and waited at a wooden table out front impatiantly about fifteen minutes. OMG, it was big, juicy and spiced perfectly with bacon and caramelized onions (see pic). The oversized seasoned fries went well with the burger. I'm hoping that every burger joint in Amsterdam will be as tasty as this great find today.

Standard food bathed in good sauce is still standard food. De Kale Man has the best friets I've had anywhere. This unsuspecting little friet stand at the beginning of the Javastraat is truly a hidden gem. The regular customers know it and the newcomers are confused that they didn't already know.
