    The potatoes
    Rebecca R.

I can't speak on the burgers at Lombardo's as I don't eat beef but the potatoes are fantastic. My husband however is a burger expert and he says it's one of his favorite burger joints in the whole world. It was his second time there. The place is tiny and charming. We were there off season and sat right down. I have a feeling that isn't the case other words. Go to Lombardo's and eat a burger.

I had the signature burger. I get the hype. The burger is good. Flavors are on point and the ambience of this tiny little place is charming along with the staff. But few a few draw backs; the bun to burger ratio was way off, too much bun. The whole baby pickles although tasty just didn't work with the construction of the whole thing. Still a pretty good tasting burger.

I came here based on the Yelp reviews and arrived to a shop about the size of a walk-in closet. There were no places available to sit so I ordered my burger "The Cheesy Freak" and waited on a bench outside. The cashier brought me the burger and I ate it right there on the bench. The burger was a decent size but the patty was not commensurate with the bun as the bun was bigger. The bun tasted like a whole grain bun and didn't taste great. The meat, cheese and BBQ sauce tasted good but not a great deal for 15 euros. Three stars!

Hangover burger (no egg no sauce) & ginger beer. My husband had Cheese freak with my egg. I didn't notice the sign "well done is like kissing your sister" until it was too late. Delicious, I'm just not used to rare. The carmelized onions made it special. Lombardo's staff is lovely, helpful and friendly. Barbecue sauce was offered in place of the special sauce and that was great. The ingredients and cooking is quality, and everything fresh and appetizing. Energized us for a 5 mile walk of the city.

Holy moly! This was a damn good cheese burger! I'm sure the wagyu beef played a big part but overall it was just so perfectly composed. You really taste each ingredient layer by layer as you bite through the burger. Each bite, you get the juice of the burger running down your hands and with just a few chews it all melts together. I think I was done with the burger in what felt like 2 bites. I wish there was more and you'll see the burger it on the larger side. Black wagyu signature burger is really a hidden gem in Amsterdam, perhaps even all of Europe!

I thought the burger was just ok. Hot place. Always a line. Should you try it? Sure. Doesn't crack my top 36 burgers all time

In the States, one thing we do pretty well are burgers. Given that, I was disappointed by the burger here. The bun was tasty, but disproportionately large to the size of the burger. The sauce was a bit cloyingly sweet (hot sauce helped with that). And the meat was fine and cooked well, but I didn't detect a crusty exterior from a good sear.

A well known burger joint in Amsterdam, Netherlands. No pun intended with joint. Haha!! The burger was tremendous, they have a reputation if being the best burger place in Amsterdam, i can believe them. I had the hangover burger. Absolutely delicious!!!! Seeded bun toasted, burger juicy and delicious. In between, a fried egg, pancetta, cheddar cheese, red wine onion compote, lettuce, and a homemade burger sauce, kind of like a Chipotle sauce. Everything worked, absolutely delicious!!! This place was worth it!!!

So, this is kind of a weird review. We stayed at an Airbnb that was literally two floors above Lombardo's. Like, our entrance was a random staircase inside Lombardo's with a velvet rope blocking random people from going upstairs. Anyway, every morning we would wake up and be subjected to the wonderful smells of burgers and bacon being cooked downstairs. Of course, we had to try them out. Their menu is kind of all over the place, but in a good way. There's Asian ingredients like Wagyu burger and a kimchi burger, fish burgers, lamb, and of course, beef. I went with the Dragon Burger, which was a beef burger with pickled meat, spicy compote, cheddar cheese, and their homemade burger sauce. And of boy, was it tasty. First things first - the bun is gigantic and covered in so many sesame seeds - the secret to a great burger. Not to be outdone, the meat portions were enough for any appetite, and the house burger sauce went great with everything. Would definitely give these guys a visit, but be warned that there's not much space inside. But you can actually grab one of the benches outside and they'll bring the food to you!

    Dutch beef burger

As good as any burger I've had in the USA. Had the Dutch beef with fixings and their special sauce (looks like thousand island without chunks). The bun is outstanding and is packed with sesame seeds. Came out perfectly medium and included a wet-nap because they know it's a juicy-hands experience. If you are nearby, can't go wrong. Barstool seating for about 8 people but it turns over quickly.

So, Lombardo's claims to serve the best burger in Amsterdam.....and they might just be right! First of all, the hand washing before handling food. Major! Good hygiene is much appreciated, doesn't really matter that this followed by me befouling the pristine burger with my obscene hands. The shop is a lot smaller than anticipated, but inviting with a narrow seating area right across from the bar. A huge fan provides a much needed cool tornado like breeze during summertime. Let your hair down and you'll enjoy your burger model style hair blowing in the wind. They have fresh juices. Tried the green baron, refreshing yet velvety with avocado, pear & celery. It's a good thing they serve it in a 500mL bottle cause it's an entire meal on it's own! Good for breakfast or a low carb lunch! Oh my, those sandwiches, quite an impressive list that is. Sous vide pork belly (porchetta), Texas brisket, grilled chicken thighs with truffle sauce, pancetta PLT?! Yes please! My mission? To try them all, preferably this week! The burgers, two that is: There is the Dutch Mrij beef burger. But I went for the more expensive wagyu burger and I must say €12,50 is quite steep for a burger without fries. But it's so gooood. So, is it the best burger in town??? So far so good. The bun, not exactly brioche (I think) but sort of sweetish. The bottom bun fell apart a bit but solved that by eating the burger upside down, no biggie. And unlike the burger bar, they actually manage the cook the wagyu patty perfectly medium here and it's tastier than the burgers I've tried at The Butcher so far (still haven't tried the Benedict though). Have I mentioned I haven't tried the burgers at De Burgemeester yet. Yes I know, a minor major flaw. Ow, and the burgers at Cau seem promising as well. Anyways, who cares if it's the best burger, I enjoyed every bite! I detest sun dried tomatoes. Those extremely overpowering shriveled dried up bombs that people seem to toss into everything, especially anything vegan or vegetarian. Here, they use semi dried tomatoes, much better! You know what would be nice, that truffle sauce on my burger....The burger sauce was nice, truffle sauce would be nicer I reckon :) I understand though, you can't have all the sandwiches served with that truffle sauce, or can you?! Hmmmm...... Also, I was afraid to ask after the chef had just mentioned how they carefully designed each and every sandwich with a special selection of ingredients. Nonetheless, I want some pancetta on my burger dang it!!

    Don't pass. Enter this foodstore:)

Martijn, the owner, loves and lives food. When he is on holiday he always visits michelin star restaurants. He has the big green egg, yes the big one. In his small and tiny foodstore he works works with the best ingredients. You can sit with about 6 people and the chef is preparing your sandwich in the tiny kitchen. You can also sit outside with 4 people. Lot of local people who are working in this posh area, with artstores, law firms and financial companies, enjoy lunch from lombardo's. Sometimes he is number 1 on tripadvisor I love lombardo's

Round 2 - Lombardo's Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! I had the Creekstone Ribeye sandwich and came to a decision... I should preface by saying that I don't eat sandwiches often. However, this is the best sandwich I have ever had.

They have a really good burger!

We kept it classic this time: * The Ribs: Fall-off-the-bone tender as always. They don't over-sweeten the glaze, which I appreciate. * Le Cannibale Royale: The pulled pork on top of the patty is a heavy hitter, but the sauerkraut actually cuts through the richness perfectly. * The Fries: Still some of the most consistent in the city--thin, salty, and actually hot. Service was busy (it's Handboogstraat, so what do you expect?), but the staff was super chill and kept the craft beers flowing. I originally thought it was the German Burgermeister chain which we really liked in Lucerne. We were even more curious when finding out that it's a local burger spot with only 3 locations in Amsterdam. This one is located on Utrechtsestraat in the city center near Rembrandt Square. It appears to be a small space when you first enter. There's a downstairs kitchen with bar seating as well as a booth at the window. Their actual dining area is upstairs. We were greeted immediately and asked to sit anywhere. Our order was taken at the table. It was great service from the get-go! I think our biggest first impression was the cleanliness of the restaurant and bathrooms. You just don't see that level of clean just anywhere. The burgers here are exceptional. They are gourmet-type burgers that are cooked to order. We thought about getting fries with it, but decided not to after seeing the size of these burgers. I could barely eat it all. Our Mokum Cheese Burger was absolutely delicious and very juicy. I loved every topping. I can't name it all, but I know it had some type of aged cheese with a hint of horseradish in the sauce. The pickles were tasty. I wish I could give you every ingredient. All I know for sure is that it's made with Blonde d'Aquitaine beef. They have a cookbook for sale if you're interested. The drinks are varied from gin & tonic to beer, wine, and lemonade. I enjoyed their loose-leaf jasmine mandarin tea served hot. There's a little room upstairs for creative people who like to sketch. I saw some of them decorating the walls. Having a burger in different countries may seem uninspiring for some people. I've found it to be very telling of the local culture and flavor. Especially in restaurants that have a standard of high quality ingredients. This is one that I'd go back to when visiting Amsterdam. The service made it even better.

I found it browsing Yelp, and the name alone told me this was going to be a meat-forward kind of night. Fair warning if you're bringing anyone squeamish about restaurant names: The wife wasn't thrilled about it going in, though the food won her over fast. Getting there was its own small adventure. The place sits down a narrow alley, and our Uber couldn't get us all the way to it, which turned into a bit of a hike. That happened to us more than once in Amsterdam, using the exact address didn't always mean the driver could actually reach the door, so budget a few extra minutes if you're headed here. I normally default to steak, but the menu had a burger topped with pulled pork that promised more meat than a straight cut, and I couldn't pass it up. Delicious. Genuinely one of the best burgers I've had. But the wife's flat iron steak might have stolen the night. Flat iron is one of the most underrated cuts out there, and this kitchen proved it. She was still talking about that steak days after we got home, enough that I ended up buying flat irons from Costco just to chase it. The atmosphere is cool and a little edgy, dim lighting, a lot of character, and yes, some genuinely creepy decor scattered around, including an old doll that stares at you like it's judging your order. It ran loud, but not so loud we couldn't hold a conversation across the table. Service was good, just on European time rather than American time. Getting the check took a while, which threw us off at first, but that's the norm across the EU, not a knock on this place specifically. Pricey, but worth every bit of it. We'd go back without hesitation next time we're in Amsterdam.
