Went to ER at 5:30 pm on a Monday. Parking at ER was full so I parked at the main open lot. Just a little bit to walk to the ER door in pain so I took it slow. Immediate triage and into a private exam room pretty quickly. A real exam space, not sheets hanging between beds! Like clockwork on blood, scheduling image, getting blood drawn, results back, medical decision and seeing the doctor. Accurate diagnosis. Longest wait was getting into my room upstairs, however, the noise level in their exam area was the calmest, quietest I've ever experienced so I slept on their comfortable exam bed until I got my room at 3 am. Every person was professional, courteous, friendly, upbeat, and truly cared about my comfort and medical care. Very surprised and happy to get a huge single room to myself!! It's in the new wing. Really helped my recovery. Hardly heard any hallway noise or talking the whole stay! The helicopter even landed on the roof outside my window and I didn't even hear it! The bed was sooooo comfortable! No tossing and turning through the night also helped my recovery. No unnecessary, annoying visits for vitals or procedures. The nurses and staff were very considerate and met and anticipated all my needs. Comfort and quality of care were well attended to even though they were very busy. They never rushed my care. If I needed pain medication they made sure I got it. (Thank you!) At surgery time the only delay was waiting for the anesthesiologist. Everyone else was like a well oiled machine. However, the anesthesiologist was very knowledgeable, experienced, and thorough. I woke in recovery and was alert and functional. Food was good for being in the hospital. Menu and a la cart choices were provided so after the first day I got to pick exactly what I wanted to eat and drink. It always came up fresh with hot and cold appropriate temps. Remember to include any condiments ahead of time. It's not a restaurant. The kitchen staff were friendly, helpful, and eager to meet all my needs. The only area that could be attended to better was keeping my wall board up to date. It wasn't always done spontaneously by the staff, sometimes had to request as the information changed, and I think that is very important to avoid mistakes in medication, treatment updates, oral intake and restrictions, and who is treating me. The hospital was very full though, so I feel the nurses and staff did an awesome job!! read more

My 75-year-old mother was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital on November 19, 2025. She was discharged yesterday evening without shoes, without a coat, without her wallet or identification, and without any notification to her family. She was released directly onto the street with no assistance or transportation. My mother was later found this morning (November 20, 2025) at her own front doorstep, having spent approximately 15 hours outside overnight. She was sleeping on her front porch with nothing but a thin blanket to keep her warm. The temperatures fell below 40 degrees last night. This is not only unacceptable--it is dangerous, negligent, and inhumane. Did virtual visit for a non emergency sinus infection. They prescribed me something I cannot take (if they took the time to look at my chart, they would know this). This Hospital has the worst Emergency Room in the 4 County Area, it's really a -1 Star Facility per the Emergency that took place over the Memorial Day Weekend 2022 that made me never want to be taken to any Community Hospital like Frederick Health Hospital. So, My Son had a Mountain Biking accident in Frederick on May 30th and the Outstanding Middletown Fire & Rescue took him to the Frederick Community Hospital for care after their superior Search & Rescue up in the Frederick Watershed in the dusk into the dark of night. My Wife & I rushed there to be with our Son, but we were never allowed to go in the back and see him during the outrageous 8 hour fiasco that is supposed to be a EMERGENCY ROOM!!! Frederick Community Hospital's Emergency Room is the farthest thing from an Emergency Room and is by far the Worst Emergency Care Facility in the 4-County Area, where the Patients were lined up throughout the hallways of the back Emergency Room Bed area and it literally took 8 Hours for him to have a X-Ray and Stitches done on his ankle that was smashed between his bike and a tree. Then they released him without having him go to his Primary Care Physician or to a Specialist for a follow up and more thorough imaging, as we found out this August of 2022 that his ankle swelling never fully went down. But wait, there is more! There are signs in the Emergency Waiting Room about how the area is 2 times as clean as most other Facility's, but that's just a bunch of malarkey to make you think your safe from catching an airborne illness from this Hospital. I should know, as I've supervised the installation of HVAC Systems in the Howard County Public Schools for the last 12+ years and "Indoor Air Quality" (IAQ) is taken far more seriously in that School System, then it is at the Frederick Health Hospital. During our 8. Hour stay in the waiting room, I noticed the cleanliness sign and then looked up at the Supply Registers which had a lot of noticeable dirt on them, which simply proves that the Buildings Return Air and any entering Outside Air is simply bypassing any Filtration that they have in their Air Handling Units and from my total of 35 years of experience, Hospitals are to utilize HEPA type Air Filters which catch 99.9% of all Viruses and other contaminants. Obviously by the pictures I've attached, this Hospital doesn't really care much about their IAQ in all areas as they should be and are obviously cutting corners. This area is not the only place where the Supply Diffusers are blowing dirty air back into the Spaces, because I saw this very same issue when my Wife had Surgery at the same Hospital and I recall sitting in this new and grand looking waiting area, only to notice that the Supply Diffusers were slightly recessed and the dirt was caught immediately by the ceiling tiles around the Supply Diffusers throughout the Large Waiting Area with high ceilings and low ceilings in the hallways. This place is AWFUL. I just sat across the waiting room from a woman who had been discharged earlier for a TBI. She came back because of issues and was sitting in the waiting room when she had a grand mal seizure and stopped breathing. The other people in the waiting room jumped into action to help her. It took literal minutes for the hospital personnel to arrive and by then she was blue. It took more minutes for them to bring a stretcher. People have been waiting for HOURS to be triaged. This is the worst hospital I have ever experienced with in my entire life. I am pregnant and my doctor scheduled an induction appointment for me. That morning, the hospital said there were no beds available and kept asking us to call back. We ended up waiting all day. They said to come in at 9pm finally. Later, they called back and asked us to be on hold and call back at 6am in the next morning. I said what would happen to me if there are no bed available. They said they would talk to my doctor and ask them what to do?!?!? What is this place? Why there are only 9 beds available for the entire county? I am now praying to god I can deliver my baby somewhere and be safe. read more

My mother died here last month, and I do not feel it was necessary, despite her being elderly. She had been in and out for a few months, once with a UTI, then COVID (for which I think she was released too early, because she was back four days later.) Then, on the final time, for a UTI, with some blood infection. They performed an emergency surgery which went surprisingly well, to help bypass a kidney stone. Encouraging. Perfect stay in the ICU for about a week where everything went right, and Mom was fighting and rearing to go to get better and stronger, just as she had done the previous hospital stays followed by rehab. Once she was moved, it was almost entirely down hill instantly. She lost her cognitive awareness almost right away after the move. Maybe a day later. For close to a week, all she could do was scream, "help me! somebody help me!!" and beg for pain meds. Even when she knew who we, her, children were, all she could or would say to us 98% of the time was "please help me! somebody help me!" This woman had ZERO cognitive issues before this. All that could ever be determined from her was that a pre existing bed sore was giving her excruciating pain. She was treated for that pain supposedly, though when awake she continued to beg for help. They called me one day and asked me to give permission for a new surgery to blast the stone, because they found her not competent to decide for herself. i agreed, and again it went great. But her delirium continued to such a degree, she woke up from it, trying to rip out her IVs and climb out of the bed demanding someone "help' her. She was sedated for the rest of that night, and given a live TV monitor for "observation." A monitor that was only sometimes manned on the other end...and by a woman who was more concerned about correcting my mother's pronunciation of her name as she screamed it out begging for help. [[HIGHLIGHT]]90 minutes from pushing the nurse button, two calls for help to the TV woman, and one other call to the TV to someone who replaced her saying "try the nurse button (!) a nurse that was "on lunch" finally showed up and said, "you were just shifted an hour ago."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I lived with this woman as her caretaker for years. This is not normal behavior and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I tried more than once to explain this to the nurses on staff. One said, "that's a doctor's call, but it's common for people to act weird under a UTI." Another said, "we didn't know she was having any difficulty after they sedated her after surgery.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I finally talked to patient services, concerned that the staff did not understand what i was trying to tell them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The result was her doctor calling me to yell at me saying I had "forced me into a corner to do procedures on your mother that will make her feel more scared![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was already aware of everything, but now you do not trust me, so it is more tests!" Horrible. A neurologist and an MRI cleared her of any actual brain damage or stroke or anything. The behavior change is NOT the result of anything that can be seen on the brain itself. A week in that room...she is downgraded, or moved to a room because she "improved" physically. During her time in this room, the loud, angry delirium went away, but she was still withdrawn, confused, uninterested in the world around her, and barely talking. And she refused to eat, for weeks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I brought up my concerns to a nurse again and she said that "she is not in pain. She is just uncomfortable, and it is coming out as a pain as a result of being elderly and suffering hospital stay delirium."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]One day find out a THIRD surgery was performed, without any of my or my family's knowledge until two days after the fact..because on that particular morning they said, "well she was lucid again, so she could give her own permission."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is blood in her urine. Her doctor calls me three mornings in a row and says, "just stop treating her, let her rest, there is no point." Palliative nurse calls, says it does not mean it is over, but it was time to disvuss what we could do next. By the time we met, she was 100% in favor of hospice care, and brought in the Hospice woman to explain it. She calls later and says mom was "lucid enough this morning to agree to hospice." Most of this happening on the 4th floor...and judging from reviews here and elsewhere it is not the first time someone has been disgusted by the slow and understaffed 4th floor of this place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They tried to find a place for 6 days, moved her to a new room on another floor without telling us, and then one morning a nurse called and said, "calling to let you know she passed away" like she was a dog.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I asked if she had ever regain consciousness, as she had been deeply asleep the last two times I had visited the nurse said, "I don't know, I just came on duty at 7."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Mom never regained her full mind, and nobody, as far as we were ever told, even made the slightest attempt, through medicine, blood tests or anything, to bring her into better focus. read more

Hospital Stay 25 - 30 Oct 2023 Peter Edward Knight III My Wife brought me to the Emergency Room on Wednesday morning, October 23,2023. I was having severe respiratory problems. I literally felt like I was drowning. From the time I entered the hospital up until I was discharged, your staff took such good care of me. Although I am still going through the process to diagnosis my condition, they definitely lifted my spirits, prioritized my care and gave me a feeling of family. They impressed me so much, that I tried to take notes of all who touched me. I didn't get them all. There were so many. I am talking Registrar to House Keeping and all in between. I made the same mistake twice where I did not drink enough water and got dehydrated. Three years ago I went to the emergency room in Fairfax, a doctor examined me the entire time I was there and after an hour told me I was dehydrated and sent me home. Yesterday the same thing happened to me in Frederick. They immediately decided that I should be admitted. They ran test after test. What is the point of checking my blood every couple of hours? Nothing was found. I was finally released after about 20 hours. I spoke to three Doctors (Physician's Assistants) who never examined me and who spent less than five minutes each with me. It felt like the point was to rack up as many charges as possible. read more

While the staff seems caring and the wait has been reasonable. I have been twice to the ER in recent months for some health issues I am going through and both times, the PAs who talked to me basically said, "We treat those people here with life threatening emergencies. You are basically healthy." They did not offer any additional tests or suggestions and I left feeling as poorly as when I arrived. Very frustrating because I know I will still get a bill. read more

After a visit to the hospital emergency room, I received a bill for over $1100. I received no treatment; I was only triaged. When I called to object I was told not to worry, my Kaiser had already settled it. "Settled it?" I asked. "for how much?" The answer was "for $250, since that was all Medicare would allow".
