The first thing you'll likely notice about Fred's is the view over the lagoon. It hits you the moment you walk through the front door. But, as much as you'd like to just focus on that, take a second to look around at the dining area itself. It has a warm island vibe that is both comforting and elegant, something lots of places strive for but sadly often fall short. Once seated at a spot with a view (sunsets are prime time!) the vast menu will require your full attention. There is a lot going on here. You'll be momentarily distracted by the amazing complimentary appetizer, but it's totally worth it! Now back to the matter at hand. Choosing dinner. Anything you choose will likely be fantastic, but wow. The scallops. Trust me. Once your meal arrives, you'll be tempted to just marvel at the presentation of your plate, but dig in. It's going to be amazing no matter what it is. A word of advice! Don't get so into it that you forget to look up at sunset, though. It's truly a beautiful sight. Vacations are often about indulging, and Fred's is a great place to do just that. If you're lucky enough to have Riger and Sergio as your servers, you'll want to indulge at Fred's every day. The great part about it is, it's in the hotel zone, so if you've overindulged, it's not too far to walk it off on the way back to the resort. I love it when a plan comes together! read more

I made reservations here after looking at reviews on Yelp & Google & viewing the menu. Looked delicious so we went while on vacay for my husband's birthday. I truly wanted to eat everything. We ordered the Yucatan ceviche which was absolutely delicious & tuna tartare was even more mouthwatering. We ordered the tableside traditional ceaser salad which was made right in front of us & my gosh...I would never ordered "bottle" ceaser again, if I could. We also had mango mojitos made tableside. As the sun set & the evening cooled off it was perfect ambience for the rest of our dinner. I was dying to try everything but I ordered the octopus & bone marrow which was perfectly tender & spiced nicely. The bone marrow well, I could have eaten a plate full of it. My husband got the flamed coconut shrimp which was perfect. Not overly sweet at all. Perfectly happy with our amazing dinner. They even surprised my husband with a birthday song & sparklers & a perfect sized dessert. Even received a small tasting from the house. Roasted coconut marshmallows. The food and drinks were incredible, we had a delicious shellfish tower , and the aguachiles mixto. The Fred's martini was soooo good, tasted delicious and gave a perfect buzz. We had the pleasure of being assisted by Mede (Mercedes) Carlos and memo, and every single one of them was a gem. It's not easy to find good food near the hotel zone in Cancun. A lot of the food is just average and you get what you pay for. We decided to give Fred's a chance and I'm so happy we did! I could live on their ceviche. Indulging in it while overlooking the bay and the sunset ain't so bad either! I recommend getting an outdoor table. They are set up like sexy Miami Beach booths and you will feel very VIP. They take their service very seriously. You will have a literal team taking care of you. Mama like. Get the ceviche, as I mentioned. We also enjoyed their seafood tower with abundant and succulent Stone Crab, Shrimp and Oysters. From there you simply can't go wrong. Fresh fish, lobster bisque, paella.... yes, yes, and yes. Their signature cocktails are fun and refreshing. The wine list by the glass could definitely use some help so I sampled other bar options and was not disappointed. Taxi cabs are waiting right out front to get you back to your hotel. There was no meter, so we gave the driver $10 and he was overjoyed. Soooo clearly it was less than that, but pay it forward! Visiting from Chicago for anniversary. Started with their tuna tartare, Caesar salad and lobster bisque. The bisque was very light and not over the top creamy. Very good. The salad was light on dressing and not drenched. Just right. The tuna tartare had to be the best tuna tartare I've ever had and I compare that to places like Nobu and others. Unfortunately, our dinner at Fred's was so awkward. We were led to a really nice table outside and then promptly abandoned. The host left us with a cocktail menu, but no food menu. After we ordered drinks they delivered our drinks but still did not bring food menus! It was strange, eventually we got menus and ordered. Overall the food was fine, nothing spectacular. First trip in Cancun - I was excited to try Fred's and so glad it was right across the JW Marriott. (Kind of a busy street to cross though). First of all, the decor is gorgeous and the music was so fun! You can tell how much thought went into every detail, and I love that. My party of 6 got a table outside overlooking the water, but dining inside seemed really nice too. We were able to enjoy the gorgeous sunset before dinner. Antonio and Isai were our servers, and I was so impressed with their warmth and kindness throughout our meal. As for the meal itself, everything was perfect, especially the lobster and filet mignon! We finished every single bite and even though we were completely stuffed, we did not regret ordering the plantain churros for dessert. At first we came in and was impressed with the decor. We had a great seat overlooking the water. The waiters were very attentive...at first. We ordered the grilled octopus. It was cooked perfevtly but the brown sauce on top pf it didnt go well with it. The tacos were ok. Their scallop risotto was fabulous. The grilled fish with garlic was huge and very garlicky. Good but i could ward of vampires. After our meal was done it took forever to get a dessert menu or a napkin or water. What happened to them hovering all over us? It wasn't even packed. FREDS IS WHERE ITS AT! Ok we are at the JW and their food sucks (more on that later). We crossed the street and had an AMAZING meal. The place is beautiful and the price is RIGHT. We came here for our first meal upon arriving Cancun as this was right across the street from our hotel. The food was tasty and if you sit outside, you'd get great view of the harbor. Service was also good. However, I'm docking points (or stars) based on the portion of food and the price charged. We ordered supposedly a combo plate of lobster and crab legs meant for 2 people to share according to the menu. We thought we'd get a big lobster and a pile of crab legs, but nope. We got a medium size lobster tail and 3 skinny little halved crab legs. My husband is 6'3". This was not enough for even just himself alone. This place is very pricey. I wouldn't mind going to an expensive place if the portion given is proportional, but it was just totally off. read more

My boyfriend and I came here right after our excursion right next door. The food was really good, service was absolutely amazing and the view is right on the water. It was a nice calm atmosphere perfect for the day. They have a really delicious soup that they had a us try and it was so good that I ended up asking for more. this is by far the BEST service i have ever received in a restaurant. i've been to a few high end dining before but none of them come close to Fred's House. the staff here is very knowledge about their menu as well as drinks and offer great recommendations! i came here during lunch hour so it was not that busy. we ordered a round of mango mojitos, and i kid you not, probably the best mixed drink i've ever had. we got sat by the lagoon and enjoyed the view while we got served our appetizers and their complimentary bread and butter, and my goddd, that butter was fantastic. i have dreams just about the bread and butter, it was delicious. during our time here my boyfriend dropped his napkin and within 30 seconds our waiter was already offering him a new napkin, that's how attentive the servers are here..! they notice when you need a refill, checking in with how the service is, etc. as for the main dish, i enjoyed the food but i personally don't think my dish was anything spectacular ( i ordered the salmon ) my boyfriend ordered the king crab and my friend ordered the lobster quesadilla as well as the coconut shrimp which were all delicious! i definitely recommend dining here, we had a great time. read more

Wow wow wow. We sat in the outdoor dining area looking out onto the sunset and drinking Sunny miles. The complimentary fish dip appetizer served with fresh tostadas was amazing. They also served tomato shrimp soup (not entirely sure what it was but it was very light and delicious. We enjoyed the pretzel breaded calamari which was perfectly seasoned. Our waiter Jorge was extremely attentive and ensured every presentation was top notch. My brother and mother had coconut shrimp served with a mango sauce that is served flaming. I tried it and was disappointed I didn't get it for myself! I had fish and chips which was very fresh. At the end we were served crushed ice with lime, mint, and ginger syrup. The attire is come as you are you can be fancy or wear casual beach wear. Overall our experience was excellent! read more
