All their food sucks, the drinks suck, the place is loud and annoying, the restaurant smells gross, it even looks gross so it's clearly not properly cleaned, I'm very upset that I wasted money going here, never again. read more

Eating at Freds has been an extended family tradition for just about as long as I can remember. Family travelling between PEI, NB and beyond often make a point of stopping here. Since the diversion highway opened, a little side trip is needed but you're not taken far out of your way. A family diner, Fred's has quite a varied menu but their focus is seafood and, in our family at least, the most popular dish is the battered & fried whole clams. The prices have gone up considerably since last there but the servings are quite large for the most part. The restaurant is large, bright & clean. I suspect in the sumer they likely get a few coach tours stopping by. On this day there were a few locals dining and maybe a traveller or two. It had been a few years since we last stopped here but this day we found it to be every bit as good as remembered. Two of us shared the large fried clam platter and one had the hot turkey sandwich. Each meal came with a huge serving of fries, more then any of us could finish, coleslaw and fresh homemade dinner rolls. The whole clams were lightly battered, fried to a light crisp and not at all greasy. The fries, I believe, were from frozen but done nicely. The tartar sauce was Kraft pre packaged. The hot turkey sandwich came covered with gravy, assuming made in house but not sure, and peas. Though there was no room for dessert, we left with a piece of house made butterscotch pie which was enjoyed much later. Recommend the detour in to Cap Pele if you are feeling a bit peckish or have a hankering for seafood. Go with a big appetite or someone to split an order with. And you might want to wait til the food coma passes before you get back behind the wheel. read more

Love stopping here on the way to/fro PEI. Food is always hot and fresh, good specials (today's was the fish cakes) ordered large clams to share and a glass of wine to rinse off the ride. The buns are so good! Light fluffy buns that you know are made by some grandmothers recipe. Licensed, welcoming quick and good! How can you beat that? read more

Popped in here on our way through town during a roadtrip. After all the great fish and chips I've had i found this place to be somewhat lacking.i did not order fish and chips as i prefer haddock and they had only cod. They only served margarine with somewhat stale buns and the condiments were all in small take out containers. The food was okay bacon wrapped scallops and a bloomin onion - did not feel inclined to order anything else after those. Maybe we missed out on their specialty but overall i felt disappointed. read more

In the world of fried seafood, in particular fish and chips, Fred's is definitely king. I have been coming here for longer than I can remember. The atmosphere is a diner type truck stop kind of place, but any restaurant boils down to the food. I basically get the fish and chips all the time, but have tasted some of their other seafood options like fried clams, fried shrimp and fried scallops. All of those are delicious as well, but you can't beat the fish and chip at Fred's. Between the generous portions and the option to make your chips into "poutine", you can't go wrong. The fish batter is light and not overly greasy around the tender pieces of cod. Nothing fancy with the poutine, but the cheese curds are right, the fries are thick cut and the gravy is the right consistency. It's too bad Fred's doesn't try harder. The canned green peas and mushy carrots were disappointing next to the ok scallops. The whole affair became somewhat irritating when the check arrived. Too expensive for what it is. We still had a good time because we love Cap-Pelé so much. read more

We go here for breakfast whenever we visit my wife's family. I always enjoy the breakfast food especially the eggs benedict. While I've never had any other meals there I can certainly say if the breakfast is any indication the rest of the menu would be good as well. read more

Food was cold and took a very long time. Not much flavour. Staff was taking their masks on and off. We went because of friend recommendations, but left early due to the poor taste in food. More effort is needed. read more

Amazing food in giant portions. Amazing service and the environment is comfortable and relaxed. You have to try the fish cake!

As usual, when I visit a new seafood restaurant, I tried the Fish & Chips. This time, I was especially gratified. The batter was light and crispy. The cod was white and flaky. Together they were absolutely incredible. Not sure if I'll be a regular patron, but I certainly was happy today. read more
