Whenever I have come into Free People on Smith street, the staff has always been welcoming, and hospitable. Most boutiques or stores on Smith street have employees that to begin questioning you the second you come into the store. You do not have time to breath, look around, or actually consider buying something. I have never experienced this feeling here. Employees are eager to help if you ask questions. The girl with blonde curly hair who was at the cash register and the girl with dark hair and darker makeup made me feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable. The blonde made me not want to purchase anything after I really liked a few items. They proceeded to talk about me and look at me weird after I walked away thinking I didn't turn around. I'll be honest, Free People is a little too funky for my non-hippie tastes. Then again, I actually don't wear women's clothing* so that's not really relevant. What I can tell you is that if you are looking to buy presents for your lady friend, this is a good choice (provided you know what she likes, and she's a little bit of a hippie at heart). There was a very nice young lady that helped ease my awkwardness as I asked questions about what size my wife would need and was forced to discuss her breast size with a stranger. There are also some sweet "slipper socks" on sale. And if you do find some stuff that your lady might be into, the fine folks here will wrap them far, far better than you ever could. I keep trying to shop at this free people location but they just don't carry much stock. When I went in yesterday most of the stock was tiny shirts and thermal shirts. They have some cute stuff on mannequins but the things on the mannequin aren't on the floor. The staff wasn't super approachable so I didn't feel comfortable asking. (Staff is honestly hit or miss- I've had great experiences and not so great experiences). I very rarely find anything to purchase at this location. I usually just go for online returns. I would encourage FP to better stock this store! It's the only Brooklyn location. I'm sure like myself, many folks don't feel like going into the city to shop! read more

I am shocked that We The Free only has 4 reviews. Maybe people are scared away from the "new look" of Free People? Well, I am here to tell you - don't be! I go to this store every time I am on this end of Smith Street because there is seemingly no end to the sale items and cute new items that they keep getting in. I recently picked up an awesome belt for $20 (better than Lucky Brand) and a new spring/ summer dress for $30. (I walked past the Converse dresses at Target for $30 and laughed a few days later.) These sort of sales set the bar for Brooklyn Industries and also stores like Something Else. Granted, BI and SE cater more towards "men's fashion", but it is always good to be able to compare prices between stores and I think WTF sets the bar for friendly staff and good sales. read more

I adore this store and brand. It's so much fun to shop here. I've always been a fan of Free People, but We The Free is like a slightly edgier, gutsier kid sister version of it. The designs are clever, sexy, comfy, original and the price points are fab. Each time I go in there (at least once a month, as there is always something new in stock), I walk out with a piece that I end up totally falling in love with. I never thought I'd rock crop tops again, but the ones they sell here (which I'll pair with a cool tank underneath) are just so cute. They have an awesome sales section, too. The customer service is wonderful. The girls that work here are helpful but not annoying. They clearly have good taste themselves so I'll always ask their opinion when I try on stuff. read more

I love We The Free. Beyond having awesome clothing, I am happy to say that I had an awesome shopping experience all together which can be pretty hard to come by in New York... not to mention you can make your own playlist while you're shopping! The clothing is really stylish and favors many different tastes. It's a vintage inspired look, while not being too rough around the edges. Almost everything in there can be worn a million different ways which comes in super handy. I must say I LOVE We The Free... everyone should swing by. read more
