Ugh I loooove free people. Love, love, love. Pricey but still some of my favorite clothes. This location has a LOT of cute clothes but the employees aren't friendly. They ALL stare at you while you shop kinds of people. I don't like that. If you're gonna stare, at least be friendly or do something helpful like ask if we want a shopping bag to put your things in or whatever. Like i said, cute clothes, but workers need diversity lessons & customer service training and a LOT of it. ETA: went in after my husband bought me a couple hundred dollars worth of clothes for mother's day, I was carrying the bag of clothes (because he gave it to me & I still wanted to see what they had) when I walked in, and they still weren't nice. My favorite Free People location! This store & Anthropologie are the best stores in our mall. The employees are so welcoming and helpful, it feels like you can ask them for advice and they are honest. Some fashion store employees will lie to you for the sale, but these employees always give great suggestions. I was so disappointed to see some bad reviews because of the customer service. As a POC, I have been treated great every time I come to this location. I've seen multiple POC working at this location, but I'm newer to the area and maybe they have new staff. So there are only a few stores I enjoy going to at our meager mall, and one of them happens to be Free People. I love the vibe of the store, and I always feel welcomed and warmly greeted. On a particular occasion recently, I was greeted by a very kind saleswoman. I didn't catch her name, but she was slim with long blonde curly hair. She definitely exemplified the style of the store. She showed me some great sale items, and different selections based on what I mentioned I was looking for. She was so helpful but not overly intrusive. I'm only giving my experience at this location a zero because if I don't give it "something", I won't be able to leave a comment. I have read posts from at least two women of color mentioning thier experience with FP Valencia, to which I can determine it was nothing short of unsavory. As was mine. I had the same experience. Here's the thing: I truly, sincerely do not like to merely assume that all-too-familiar notion that someone is racially profiling me. I mean, it is an assumption on my part and I presume positive intentions of everyone. But this? This is the THIRD TIME I have gone into this particular shop and have been soooo put off by the negative energy that I've simply stopped browsing and have just walked out. I came into FP, ready to spend a few hundred dollars. The young lady at the counter stood there, with her arms tightly crossed and said nothing to greet me as a shopper. Her eyes just stared, and I can even say she was not smiling behind her mask, because her body language pretty much said, "Get Out." When a white young lady walked in with her boyfriend, I heard an enthusiastic greeting from behind the counter. I decided to leave. And go on Yelp. Because at this point, I feel it sharply remiss if I do not say something. Management, if you do not want people of color in your store, just say so. I will go to Palm Springs Free People and be greeted with warmth and spend a ton of my green money there. This is an issue with management and leadership. Or, train your employees to know that money doesn't give a rip about their opinion of other customers and to be happy they are able to make commission, no matter who is buying the clothes. That's how America works. Deal with it. Giving the salesperson the benefit of the doubt and posing the possibility that she has had a negative encounter with POC still doesn't excuse her countenance. As a representative of the brand, YOUR JOB IS TO STILL "GO HIGH", not meet every person of color you see with apprehension. From the posts, here, it seems as though this is a pattern at the Valencia store. I don't care if a person is striped, with six eyes (two of them crossed), boils and a wooden leg, you treat them with respect. You don't own the company. You work there, and you're trying to pay your bills. Just do your job. Black people are not going away anytime soon. But for me, visiting this location again is a HAAARRD PASS. Honestly, there was one girl (blonde curly long hair and naturally pretty) working in this store that was super sweet, kind and helped me with my questions. The rest of the girls were garbage. When I was trying stuff on, someone came to check on me and I figured it was the girl who had been helping me (it wasn't, she checked in with me a minute or so after), so I started explaining what I liked and didn't like. I then heard her go back to the other employees and say "that girl kept trying to talk to me and I was just like SHUT UP SHUT UP". Sorry but if you can't handle your job providing customer service in a semi-high end store, go do something else. It was super rude and I don't think I'll ever go back into this store. Idk what is wrong with young girls these days but they for some reason feel entitled even though they are nothing special. I could do that job with my hands tied behind my back, and not have a big flabby mouth in the process. The blonde behind the counter acted like she was doing me a favor by returning an item that I had purchased. She told me that she would make a "one time exception" because the item was purchased in Santa Monica and I should be going there to return. I don't need a child treating me like I'm a nuisance when I spend a lot of money at your store. Her attitude is not on brand. Reading the other reviews, it looks like most of your employees could use some training. read more

Walked into the store and the two employees looked at me up and down, didn't acknowledge my existence, and just had a conversation within themselves. I was in there alone for about 5 min looking for a Mother's Day gift until white customers walked in and they were SO quick to greet & help them. Even after they finished helping them, they still didn't greet or even look at me. Felt so uncomfortable & unwelcome. If you're white, this is the place for you! POC, be weary. read more

I love Free People. They area fantastic clothing company with stylish and trendy clothes. They are priced a little high, but the detail in their clothes is amazing, so its kinda worth the extra penny. They have excellent sales, so if you really want something, keep an eye out for it to go on sale. I have saved hundreds of dollars by doing just that. I just recently bought a dress I have had my eye on since March and by waiting til it went on sale, I saved about 150 dollars. Totally worth the wait!! The new Valencia location is in the outdoor patios at the Valencia Mall. The interior decor is stunning, wooden reeds with flowers hanging off, painted canisters hanging from the ceiling, and the presentation of the clothes is pleasing to the eye of the shopper. Their front door alone is worth a trip to the store. It is one of the prettiest doors I have seen since being in Europe. It is all wood with beautiful carvings. The staff who works at this location are very nice, stylish, sweet and make you feel welcome. They don't hover and make you feel uncomfortable while shopping but they are extremely helpful when you need advice on an outfit or size. I don't think I have ever come across a bad sales rep at a Free People store. Free People has excellent customer service and the best return policies I have ever come across. If you haven't yet been to Free People, go check it out! You won't regret it..okay maybe you will because it will burn a quick hole in your pocket. But if you're gonna burn a hole in your pocket, you might as well be wearing your new fancy pants from Free People. read more

I stopped by this store while meeting my sister who was in town. I drove up from the OC. The staff was too busy socializing with their college friends the entire time and didn't even make time to greet the customers. My entire closet is filled with Free People and it was disappointing to see this store's selection of inventory was very limited. read more

Free People carries gorgeous clothes and accessories, I wish I could afford anything in the store but I manage to hold back every visit. The sales associates are super friendly and let you browse the prettiness without bothering you. They also have a special sales room tucked in the back just passed lingerie racks, but I've never found anything in there that probably isn't back there for a reason (ie it ugly). I know one day, perhaps when I have a better paying job, I will walk into a Free People and actually purchase something I like. read more

Yesterday, May 3, 2021, in the early afternoon, my 26 year old daughter entered free people. The 2 blonde employees at the counter IGNORED my daughter's entry completely after clearly noticing her and they continued to gossip at the counter. That was fine by my daughter until my daughter received unwelcoming expressions on their faces as they were looking directly at my daughter. My daughter just kept browsing for a pair of jeans she intended to buy. I walked in about 5 min later because I was meeting my daughter there. The two employees did not see me enter but they certainly noticed the two white women enter the store a min after me. Suddenly the 2 employees got very cheerful and greeted the two women with delight and eager to please. THAT is when they saw me. They ignored me as well. There was an off putting energy. I know this behavior all too well. I'm also a therapist of 30+ years. To you, the management, my daughter and I are both attractive women with brown skin, and make no mistake, we have spent thousands of $$ in your SCV store since it has opened. Unfortunately, you have hired racists in your store and you should be well aware of this...that is unless you are okay with this or perhaps you are racist yourself. Regardless, my generous spending has come to a complete stop at your SCV location and all independent FP locations for that matter. The behavior and actions of your employees toward my daughter and I were most certainly appalling amd downright disgusting. Truly. I wish I could give zero stars. Racism stems from hate. Suuuuper cute chic, bohemian clothing buuuut at a steep price!! This place is a danger zone for me, well, mostly my wallet, but sometimes you/I just gotta do the damn thing and splurge! There are so many Jeffery Campbell boots I am eyeballing, one in particular that is haunting me, but at the end of the day, when I finally cop them, I will love them forevvvvva. FP sizes are quirky. I almost always fit in an XS in dresses and jackets (love, love, love their jackets!), but when it comes to their sweaters, it's a total hit or miss: I'm either drowning or snug as a bug and have to go up a size. The 'worn'/raglan look doesn't make sense when priced at $80/$100+ so I will pop into Macys to check out their FP selection because you can get away with using coupons and often times they have sales, making it much more affordable! I will, however, stop into Free People to peruse their selection as some items are exclusively sold here. It's a pretty store, very girly - you might like it if you're into that sort of thing, which you probably are if you're shopping here. Another plus of shopping in-house is the girls working here have been really nice and welcoming. I was able to return an online purchase at the store with no hassle, just make sure you bring in your receipt. When I shopped here previously the staff were all so friendly and helpful. However tonight around 7pm (22nd Oct) I stopped by and what looked like a staff member and her boyfriend were behind the cash wrap area playing around with each other and laughing. They didn't even notice me come in and to be honest i wasn't impressed at that type of behavior and the gentleman hanging out behind the cash wrap area so I walked straight back out and that's when the team member noticed me but it was too late and she panicked trying to get her man friend away. Over half my closet if full of Free People clothing so I'm already a huge fan with just the clothing alone! This location is a good one! Cute and nicely set up. The girls were very friendly. I came in looking for something specific that was sold out online, unfortunately it was sold out in my size there too, but one of the girls was nice enough to tell me that they also saw it at M. Frederic! It didn't end up being my size, but I appreciated her helping me out. They did have a good selection of stuff. The sale section wasn't bad either, as I've seen some with barely any cute sale items. The accessories had additional percentage off when I went. I absolutely love free people but I came here today to shop and arrived at 3:02pm where I was not allowed to come in because they were going on their "lunch break" for an hour. I came back at 4:15 only to see that the sign on the door said that they will be back at 4:30 so I sat outside for 20 minutes waiting only to see a girl now change the time on the sign to 4:45. Hour long lunch break my ass. They gave themselves almost 2 hours of being closed while I sat there and waited. I WILL NEVER BE SHOPPING AT THIS FREE PEOPLE LOCATION AGAIN. read more

I've never met a faker group of girls and I thought I survived high school. if you're so miserable, quit your job! the rbf isn't cute. the tall blonde only greets white people and is apparently a manager. literally, how? there is just zero structure here and you would think you're visiting to shop but it just feels like you've walked into a conversation (that overhearing will cause you to lose a few brain cells anyway,) that you shouldn't have interrupted. the way the clothing placed is so bare and boring, the effort all around feels like they must know they're going out of business so they just don't care about their roles in the store. I'm so turned off by the service here and the way this store and the people in it contribute heavily to the loss of how awesome the brand really used to be that I don't even want to visit another location. save the energy and shop online with much more selection! they seem to get the scraps that you could find at macy's for a real discount or at a Marshalls anyway. Oh! And return your online orders elsewhere, even if that's all they sort or know how to do here anyway. Stopped by the store to browse for presents for my wife. I knew I wanted to get stuff out of the catalog but of course those items were sold out. Megan was the store manager that day and she let me know they can order anything and have it shipped for free. Natalie and Sarah were a huge help. Natalie placed my order and had it shipped for me the next day and Sarah called the Torrance store and found the skirt my wife wanted in her size and got them to ship that item overnight. This gives me plenty of time to figure out how to wrap gifts. I'm a guy...'enuff said? The experience was great. Those 2 were amazing and did it all with a great smile. Free people designs are gorgeous... and expensive, but the fabric is poor quality rayon made in china, Vietnam and various countries. Just look at the label. With that being said you know their cost is not great and yet they charge highly for their items that will not last even with hand washing. The price should include quality!!!! I mean one top cost me $40 and the first wash it looked like crap...really!! That's the least expensive of anything that's in the store. read more

I love free people's clothing although I've come to find out after a few purchases that the quality of their clothing sucks! Everything falls apart after a few washes. The main reason why I'm giving this place 2 stars is because their customer service is horrible. When you enter a store you should be greeted by an employee but every time I go in Free People the girls care more about chatting it up with their friends than paying attention to their customers....once in particular, I went in there and not one of the girls said a single word to me. read more
