St Louis Style Ribs, brisket, fritters, mac salad, and beans. Awesome!!

Awesome experience at Freedom Hog Shack. Food is excellent and the restaurant is extremely laid back while still having very attentive and kind service. Our family of 4 (2 infants,) came in still soaking wet from a rainstorm we were caught in at Sylvan Beach. A bit bummed that our boys's amusement park visit was cut short, we decided to try and salvage the evening with a trip to FHS and a hankering for some authentic bbq. We were so thrilled to enjoy homemade food that is clearly made out of passion. The ribs and brisket were perfectly seasoned and smoked. The mac salad, mac and cheese, fritters, and bbq beans were simply top notch. It really helps when a bbq place puts serious effort into the sides and doesn't just mail it in. Clearly the owner takes pride in every aspect of the cuisine and it shows. Service was extremely professional and attentive. Very accommodating for our family as you're always worried with little ones causing a scene or impacting another's experience. The vibe here is extremely laid back so we never felt out of place. I think you could probably have anything on their menu and make out just fine. Next time we are visiting, we will be sure to stop by. Swine plate is already calling my name! Thanks for turning our evening around Freedom Hog Shack!

Smash potatoes and gravy are tasty

The wings are great quality and the price is great. It's a family ran business and it's got that small town bbq vibe. The smash potato's and gravy are good. The homemade ice tea was tasty and hit the spot. My favorite wings here are the garlic parm. They used fresh parm too! They ran out of the fried green tomatoes, but we will try next time. The jalapeño poppers were delicious. The thick cut bacon that was smoked and the filling complimented it being a creamy balance to the jalapeño and bacon. The service was very friendly and inviting. The ambiance is bbq biker/chill feel. Freedom is the Owner and very happy to please his customers. I like to support small businesses and you should too. Try it out

Dining room decor

The food is good. We had the brisket sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. The meal comes with potato chips but you can 'upgrade' (pay more) to a real side dish, like baked beans, cole slaw, Mac salad, etc. It definitely does have the 'biker' vibe with some of the decor. I wouldn't display items with the F word so prominently and I'd certainly never take my kids there, but fortunately there's take out. It's not my vibe and that's okay. The waitress was very friendly and definitely working hard. There was a younger girl working but it didn't seem as though she had any specific purpose. Came over and told us what our waitress' name was. Overall it was a nice meal and I'm happy we tried it. I hope they do well and in time I'm sure they'll hit their stride.

Homemade jalapeño poppers. What's left of them.

If you like smoked chicken wings with excellent homemade sauces you must stop here. The wings are crispy and full of flavor.

They are also conveniently by our Vrbo so we headed there tonight for an easy dinner. Walking up, we saw quite a few pies at the window. They also had pinwheels as well. So many options to pick from. Everything looked OK. The pizzas looked like they were made a while ago. You can tell when a pizza is hot, the grease is glistening still. Non of these pizzas were doing that. My husband and I snagged 2 slices of cheese. Both of the slices were two different sizes, very big difference between the two. I gave my husband the bigger slice. I honestly thought they would have heated up the pizza a little more. They were still cold. The cheese was not even melted or warm. You shouldn't have bothered heating them up cause it didn't do anything for them. The pizza sauce had good flavor to it. There wasn't a lot of it. The cheese itself was there but missing on some parts of the slice. The crust was hard and very chewy since it wasn't warm. I was really hoping for a melty, cheesey, hot slice of pizza. Unfortunately, I didn't get that. I had high hopes for this joint since they always seem so busy. Maybe it was at the hour we came but the pizza just didn't hit. I'm happy we got to try it out anyways. Still looking for that slice is pie is New York that's going to blow my socks off.

What a delicious bbq spot!…read more My boyfriend and I are staying at the connected hotel across the street! We smelled and saw the smoker then we checked-in, and new we had to dine here! Today was the day! We stopped in for dinner. The smell was incredible. We had pulled pork nachos, smoked wings and smoked brisket sandwich. All was amazing! The nachos were so tasty and had a generous amount of pork throughout. Wings were absolutely amazing. I need smoked wings in my life at least once a week. Smoked brisket sandwich was amazing as well!! So many flavors all married together...yummyness in each and every bite. The sandwich also came with fries that were also delicious! Service was great as well. I absolutely recommended this place to anyone in the area! They are open year round, not just in the summer! What are you waiting for?!

We were wanting BBQ and had thought this was another location of the Boneyard in Utica which closed and it was a beautiful day in upstate NY. So, we decided to take a ride up to Sylvan Beach. The waitress told us this location was a franchise and while menu looked similar items to me they were not as good. The ribs tasted the same but pulled pork sandwich to me was not that good. Sandwich was on a different style bun but what made it disappointing was the amount of BBQ sauce on sandwich it was so over powering you did not taste the smoke flavor and bread on bottom was soggy and hard and mess to eat. Salt potatoes were good but corn bread was dry. Wait staff were friendly and will definitely be back.

I've never walked out of a restaurant due to service before, but this experience was unacceptable. We were greeted by an older waitress with a bob haircut and black-framed glasses whose demeanor was immediately hostile. Her tone, facial expressions, and overall communication were dismissive, belittling and disrespectful from the start. The interaction was so off-putting that our party of three decided to leave before even placing drink orders. When we informed her we would be leaving, she simply responded, "Ok," and walked away. A disappointing experience at a place I've consistently supported in the past.

The atmosphere is Key West meets northern lakefront - tropical, chill, and ready to party all day. We sat outside at the bar, steps from Oneida Lake, perfect to eat, drink, and people watch. We found the entire staff to be actively engaged in servicing the guests. Beer was ice cold and wow do they have lots of beers to choose from - an overwhelming menu! My friend and I ordered two types of tacos: The chicken tacos came OVERSTUFFED with tender, flavorful shredded chicken which was juicy and delicious along with diced tomatoes and onions; we asked for the Mexican Crema on the side and the modification was adhered to. The beer-battered fish tacos came with gigantic shrimp which did not fit into the taco (in other words, excellent portion size) plus pico and pickles - yes, you read that right, pickles, and yes the tacos were perfect with the pickles tucked inside! We asked for the zip-zap sauce on the side and again, the modification was adhered to. The only thing I could say (if I had to pinpoint a negative) was that the food took over 20 minutes and the dining room/outdoor bar was not terribly busy; however, this did not take away from the experience as we made friends at the bar, conversed with the bartenders, and enjoyed the view of a beautiful summer afternoon on the lake. I'd suggest any potential guests just be prepared for ticket times to be a little longer than one might be used to. I will definitely be back, there's lots more I want to try on this menu and I want to enjoy some live music in the near future.

Waitress came to take order and learned most if not all the seafood was frozen and not fresh. Waitress was friendly but had to ask multiple times for things like plates to share appetizers with the group or drink refills. Food took awhile to come out. I had to do a double take when my salad came out as the parmesan cheese on my Caesar Salad was melted over top of salad. I get this was a seafood restaurant but I am a snob when it domes to seafood and do not care for fishy smelling frozen items. Thought salad would be a safe choice after all how difficult is it to put lettuce into a bowl. I would be wrong. My salad appeared to have been left under a heat lamp and lettuce was welted and not good. Cheese was baked into lettuce and melted onto the grilled chicken. Haddock was dried out and appetizers were not good. Even the desserts what few they had on the menu were processed and not made at restaurant or one of the local bakeries. This to me was an overpriced frozen dinner place. Definitely not worth it. Even the music ended up just being a DJ rather than a band. Well, today's the day. I looked on Google to see what time they opened. It said they open at 8:30 on Tuesdays. That's wrong, they open at 7:30 like every other day. So, we totally could have went there earlier but 8:30 was still great for us. This venue is absolutely cute! I love all the tables for outside dining in the front. It was a little muggy out this morning so we opted to sit inside. Walking inside, I love how charming this place is! I can tell this used to be a bar in it's previous life. The way they remodeled it to change it to what it is now is just beautiful! I love the breakfast bar area. I really wanted to sit there but my daughter wanted a booth. Adeline greeted us with her beautiful smile after we sat. She got drinks started while we looked over the menu. The menu is quite broad and they have a little of everything. For breakfast I ordered the rise and shine. Your traditional breakfast of eggs, toast, home fries and toast. My daughter got the crab cakes and eggs. While we waited for breakfast, we enjoyed coffee and orange juice. The coffee wasn't the hottest but it was still good with the vanilla creamer. Breakfast came out on huge plates. Everything looked so good, especially the home fries. I'm a sucker for potatoes. The eggs were cooked perfectly, nice and runny in the middle, the toast was buttery, the home fries had a nice light char on them and soft in the middle. I did get a side of sausage gravy for my home fries but it didn't tickle my fancy, The potatoes were good without it. I did get to try some of my daughter's crab cake. It was very tasty! I initially was going to get the crab cakes but I got a couple bites of my daughter's so win win on having a little of everything. I also got a ham breakfast melt to go for my husband. It was so good I went back and ordered another one for my sons. Both sammys were demolished. I think it's a must go come to the Pancake House while you're visiting Slyvan Beach. The venue is darling.
