When I read over the reviews, everyone raved about their baked goods - so of course I ordered the bread pudding in addition to a rosemary chickpea salad with grilled chicken. The salad was like a take on Thanksgiving stuffing with chickpeas. It was good a little thick but has good flavor. The grilled chicken did not have any flavor to it but once mixed into the salad it was good. The stand out for me was definitely the bread pudding. It had layers of fresh apples in between and was very moist. I really enjoyed this and even cold it was still very delicious. They mentioned to me that the apples were from a local farm, which I loved. Definitely recommend checking out the baked goods for sure. read more

This was the first time visiting. A very quaint little cafe. Ordered the Gus breakfast sandwich. Perfectly cooked and the flavors complemented one another so well! Ordered a simple coffee. Did not get a refill, not sure if they're offered. The place is small and I would say that was the only thing that made it a bit wonky to walk around. One customer gave me a glaring side eye when I walked past her table twice- I know! How dare I do that!? You order at the counter and a number tower card is given to place on your table. This little cafe is a gem. My friend suggested meeting here for lunch and I am really glad we did. We had 5 people which is quite a few for this place but everyone who came in after us had a place to sit. You order and then seat yourself. My husband had a pumpkin latte and I had an apple cider everyone else had water. Most of us had paninis. My friend had a salad which she said was very good. I loved my mushroom panini it was so flavorful and not at all dry which is my pet peeve with sandwiches. It's a very cute, small space. I came in on a Sunday and it was hopping, but I still managed to get a table. Very cozy, buzzy vibes. I like to order unusual and signature items, and I went for their Nitro Cold Brew with their housemade coconut ice cream, which was very rich. A morning at Pewter Spoon, starting the day with some breakfast sandwiches, treats and coffee and if you're in the area you might want to start your day, this way, every day. What a cute place, tucked in with some other businesses, but laid out well enough to accommodate a decent morning rush, with both indoor and outdoor seating. It was busy, yet everything was moving efficiently, which I was very impressed by. The sandwiches we got were delightful, not too heavy, but not overly light either. The breakfast treat in the berry bar was the same way, and my wife loved the iced mocha she got. I think this is an obvious choice for a simple and clean breakfast. So to start, customer service and communication is key. My son and I ordered 2 classic egg sandwiches, there were only 2 orders prior to us(in line). There was a table of 6 already seated and ordered and their food was coming out. I also ordered a simple Mocha ice coffee, which came out rather quick. However, we waited 26 minutes for the two sandwiches. Overall they were decent to good, but the bread was quite burnt in spots and like eating hard pizza crust, however the rest was ok. The ice coffee was pretty good, comparable to recess or cafe blue. It became quite crowded after we ordered and loud, not the establishments fault, it left not much room to wait. During our 26 minute wait not a word about our order was relayed to us even though it was clear the cashier had seen us waiting and knew we had been there awhile. If it weren't for the extra long wait for 2 simple sandwiches this would be a 4 rating. But with the wait and burnt crust I'm at a 3. I will give it another try possibly. read more

I loved this cafe. We stopped in for cappuccinos on a Tuesday morning while strolling around Cazenovia. The barista was flat out busy but welcoming. Their set up doesn't include wait staff, so you need to pick up your coffees and bus your own items at the end. Coffee was delicious! This was a special treat discovered on Cazenovia's main street. Miraculous mushroom panini - flavorful mushrooms with NYS Swiss , garlic aioli, arugula and roasted red onions. Ginger rose latte! My travel companion raved about her specialty specialty panini - roasted pears, fig jam, Brie, arugula and roasted onions but neither of us would give up a bite because they were too good to share. We slid in just before closing and yet the folks behind the counter graciously welcomed us and did not try to rush us out. Very responsible COVID response - limited seating due to low density, plexi shields at the counter (so clean you may not see them!!!), mask wearing and only two at the counter at one time. Love this cute, little, locally-owned joint in the town of Caz! I was recently in town to visit the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park with a group of friends. I had bookmarked this place on Yelp after a quick search of what was good in the town, and then while at the park, asked the director (who gave us a tour of the Artist's House) for a recommendation for lunch and she recommended Pewter Spoon as well. We arrived there around 1:15 pm, after having walked around the SQHAP for over an hour in very cold weather with snow (i.e. we were pretty frozen). The place was about 80% full with folks eating, having coffee, working on laptops and reading books and newspapers. We felt lucky to grab a 4-seater table right in the middle of the room. Funny enough, we were all in the mood for soup after the hour in the elements, but the menu was mostly salads and sandwiches, with some specials and lots of coffee and tea, plus beer on tap. In my group we had 2 gluten free, 2 vegan and 1 vegetarian, and we all found things we liked! I ordered a pumpkin spice latte (to warm me up - and yes, I'm one of 'those' pumpkin spice people!), and a hummus-and-roasted-veggie wrap with a gluten-free wrap. It came 'unwrapped' so you could tell the difference between the GF wraps and the non-GF wraps as they were delivered to the table, and I left mine unwrapped and ate it with a fork. It was fresh, full of flavor, and a nice portion size. The latte was really good too, and I ended up buying some of the coffee beans (from a place in Ithaca but sold here) to take home. My friends also ordered wraps, and one had a beer. We stuck around a little longer to have more warm drinks before heading back out into the cold. The staff were all pleasant, knowledgeable and friendly. They even let us have small tastes of the different coffees they had on offer that day, at no additional charge. This is definitely a place I will return to, knowing the food options are hearty and service and value are great. I definitely recommend this place if you're visiting Caz! read more

Quality: Pewter Spoon Cafe is a cute little breakfast and lunch spot focused on sandwiches, salads, and drinks. We stopped in for lunch and ordered two paninis. I went with the Chipotle Panini, which was chicken, bacon, chipotle aioli, and cheddar on local ciabatta. Great bread and a smoky flavor makes it a good choice. My fiancee selected the Pesto Chicken panini, which had chicken, pesto aioli, tomato, roasted red onion, arugula, and provolone on the same ciabatta. I think it was the better of the two sandwiches because of the fresh elements added on. I also ordered a Hot Chocolate, which was not very exciting and also not very hot despite the fact that I watched them put it together. It was a cold day with sleet in the forecast so outdoor was not an option, but it appeared that the area in front of the shop could be used for limited outdoor seating as well. Be aware there really is not much space to wait for your order inside, so consider calling ahead. Crowd: We did not see anyone else, but they told us they were a little backed up with orders. As an affordable and tasty option, not surprising to find them busy at lunch. Service: They shifted to take-out only as a result of COVID. The indoor dining area is partitioned off and they have a small window set up for ordering. Parking: Limited street parking in the area. We were able to park right in front of it. It's a small place, but there were a good amount of tables. It was pretty busy when we got in, but there were still open tables available. It's what you'd expect outta a modern cafe...nicely decorated, acoustic music playing on the sound system, customers sitting in front of their laptops. There were only a couple employees working, and they were very nice, but seemed overwhelmed. We waited at the counter for close to 10 minutes before our order was taken. My wife ordered a peanut butter scone, their special salad of the day, and a fresh brewed iced tea. I got a chipotle turkey panini. Our food was brought to us when it was ready. Nicely plated. My wife's salad was a pretty good size and she said it was very tasty. The Chipotle turkey panini I got was also very good. Thick cut slices of turkey with smokey chipotle sauce on fresh, crusty bread. My wife said it was worth going there for the scone. Employees seemed a little uneducated about the policies, as nobody was sure if they offered refills for their tea. In town for a wedding, I came here for a light lunch and it was perfect. My chicken pesto panini was served on fresh ciabatta that was crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. It was oozing pesto aioli and had plenty of chicken, though the flavors were very balanced and none of the ingredients dominated. It came with a small salad which was a pleasant surprise. I had a wanted a quick bite while at work one day and popped into here in the small town of Cazenovia. One of the perks of my job is running into small places like this that unless you looked online or noticed it driving by. You'd never even know it was there. And this place is a hidden gem. It's quite small but packed with a ton of good flavors and character. It's one of those order at a counter and they will let you know when it's done sort of places. I had stopped and got the daily special sandwich and it was good enough that I wanted to give a second try for breakfast the following day. Naomi and I came down on a Saturday and I had possibly the best breakfast sandwich I'd had in a long while. Breakfast sandwiches a lot of times are notoriously dry or have egg products and not eggs or are just missing something. This one was mind blowingly tasty. They call it simply a peppery sandwich and it's my new favorite the area. Because I love anything with a sweet heat. And the bread is awesome,All fresh ingredients and a regular menu item. Totally a win. Coffee or espresso drinks made with Ithaca's own gimme coffee which is a nice brew. All for reasonable prices. Definitely a place I'd recommend to anyone for breakfast. Off the hook good. Had the chicken pesto and chipotle chicken sandwiches. I can't rate the coffee because no coffee thats not siphon brewer deserves more than a 3-star. Filters. Parking is plentiful on the street and holds about 40. Always seems to be busy. If you are heading through caz around lunch time it's worth stopping. Prices are congruent with food quality. I think the pesto chicken edges out the chipotle chicken. It's a rainy day and was worth the stop. We will come again. read more

Very cute place for breakfast and lunch. We were there on a Sunday and they also had a couple brunch specials. They use a lot of locally sourced ingredients and products from Central New York businesses. It's not table service - order at counter and food is brought to table. That's fine for the casual and affordable place that it is. And while it's casual, there's still real flat ware and plates and glasses. I also really liked the decor. Very rarely do I write about my dissatisfaction while I'm still in the restaurant. However, as it took an hour to wait in line, order, and receive my food/drink, I had time to gather thoughts and make some observations. In this time, I noticed staff rolling their eyes and yelling at customers as they brought out food for customers. I noticed other customers took up tables and chairs to wait for their to go orders as opposed to those who were actually dining in house There was no system to make sure the orders that are ready are first in first out (I almost grabbed someone else's drink not knowing there were people before me who also ordered the same drink). My friend noticed that the person taking orders was writing down her characteristics to recognize her for her drink as opposed to using a number system or something similar. Additionally I noticed that for so many customers waiting in line, there was not a commercialized or industrialized back kitchen. It looked similar to what an apartment kitchen would look like, which explained why food was not coming out in a timely manner. It was clear they were understaffed, but the inefficiencies were very noticeable and relevant. Particularly distasteful was how when food came out for two customers, the staff made a comment about them being on their phones and if they were off their phones they would've gotten their food. Yet their orders were not announced when ready. Meanwhile, I noticed my group's food was likely next based on watching the order of people before us getting food. Yet once it was ready it took an extra 4-5 min before someone was ready and available to announce our order was ready and give it to us. An opportunity for training on consistency of how to send out the food and treat customers seems needed. Though what I ordered (southwest egg sandwich with bacon) was very good, I still felt upset and hangry by the time I got my food to go. No napkins were out and we were definitely ready to go at that point. As a local place, I really wanted to support while on my travels. However the behavior I observed (though not directed at us) and inefficiencies left a distaste in the experience. If I had known it was going to take an hour wait I would've gone somewhere else. There are many opportunities for this place to improve. read more
