The animals seem to be happy and well kept. The staff we talked to were enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed what they were doing. This is a fun little zoo with a nice collection of animals. I was blown away by the giraffe exhibit. There is a little flock of flamingos that I could just stand and watch for hours, and the prairie dog exhibit is too cute for words. Go and see for yourself. Be aware they are not open on Mondays. This has caught me a number of times on Monday holidays (Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc.) when I had a day off work and was looking for something to do. Sorry, no zoo today! They are open every other day of the week. The zoo is open from 10-4 and this is plenty of time to see everything. There is food and a splash pad and a carousel and a train to ride. This is all fun, but for me a zoo is all about the animals. This little zoo does not disappoint.

The animals are well taken care of and the staff is always fun and knowledgeable. Our tour guide (I think her name was Sonora?) was very nice and went out of her way to make sure we got to spend time with all of the animals we wanted to see. Couple of tips. First off, spring for the private or semi-private tour. You have more freedoms to roam around the park and it's definitely worth the extra cost. Second, no matter how much animal food you get, you will wish you had more. The highlight of the tour is feeding the animals and you will not want to disappoint them! Third, they have added some new attractions in the last few years that look awesome but we didn't get a chance to do them. There's a kangaroo walkabout and a capybara experience, both looked really cool. Finally, they are offering a "painting" by the animals. You add food coloring to a canvas and the animals "paint" with their mouths while they eat. It was absolutely worth it!

The check in process was quick, and we already had animals coming up to us before the tour started. Our tour guide was awesome! Trysta was very knowledgeable, helpful, and aware to the entire group and each person's experience! All the animals are very interactive with the visitors, my favorite was the black leopard! The capybaras and the porcupine were some of the animals that we got to feed directly, but be warned about he capybaras drool and they eat their own . You can tell that the staff are educated and care very much about the animals. It is all very clean and well-kept. It took us about 2 hours to sidle through and look at everything. It's a good outing for an afternoon. Part of the facility is outdoors, with exhibits for the beavers (They have beavers!! So cute!!), the dolphins, the otters, and the local gators and wildlife. They have a penguin exhibit that is in the works and coming soon. The rest is indoors in a nice building. You go up to the top floor and work your way down through the various exhibits and tanks. A big part is outside, so you should check the weather before you go and be prepared to deal with whatever. There is a public parking garage right next door, but we parked across the highway at Jones Park and walked over to the aquarium. There is a nice pedestrian skybridge over the highway that makes it easy and safe.
