It's pretty nice. It seems a bit small (lobby area), but I'm not sure if it's just for the black box. The price is not bad with a decent discount for students. Overall, the feel for the place looks very fresh and inviting, and the show lineup doesn't seem too traditional and strives to push some buttons (e.g., The Vibrator Play starting May 3rd). The production of "Into the Woods" was my introduction to freeFall Theatre. The ushers were extremely helpful guiding me to the comfortable seat I'd reserved within the nearly sold out venue. Once the lights dimmed the magic began. This was a large cast complete with musicians on stage and some actors multi-tasking as multiple characters. The quality of acting and singing was quite impressive with a few truly standing out and commanding rapt attention whenever they were on stage. The theater is located within a complex. Patrons must exit the theater to visit the concession stand and restrooms which may be a bit inconvenient for some and a little uncomfortable when the weather takes a turn for the worse. I have enjoyed outstanding theater companies in Berkeley, Ca., Chicago, Minnesota, New York and London. I would put freeFall in the same company of those other companies. I look forward to witnessing many more magical moments upon its stage. read more

I challenge you to find a better theatre. Anywhere. Eric Davis is a genius. I do not dole this title out to just anyone. Eric is one of the most brilliant minds that I have ever spoken with and how that translates on stage is just mind blowing. I am delighted with every production that I have seen at FreeFall. Eric has a number of talented actors that he continues to work with and I am constantly amazed by their transformations from show to show. FreeFall satisfies with shows like "Into the Woods" and "Mikado", but then often stretches your thinking and challenges you with thought-provoking shows like "American Monkey" and original pieces like Natalie Symon's "Buffalo Kings". The Free Fall team tantalizes your senses from the interesting set designs, the aesthetics of the intentional stage set ups, magical arrangements delivered by talented musicians, clever touches of carefully sourced antique props, breathtaking/complex acting, gorgeous costuming (much of which Eric designs and sews himself)... all the way to the delightful surprises, such as filling the air with the smell of garlic being sauteed in oil while an exceptional actor describes a chateaubriand during "The Empty Plate". Simply put. This place is perfect. read more

And the award for the cutest little theater in the 'burg goes to.... free fall! I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem. I've seen 3 shows here, A Christmas Carol, Bright Lights Big City, and A midsummer Nights Dream, and I will be back for the next shows. It is a small, intimate venue that allows you to immerse yourself in the story. Each time I have been there the stage setup is different, the most interesting Bright Lights Big City, because the 'stage' was around the band and the seats were all against the walls around the stage. Each time the actors are so perfectly cast and the ambiance is warm and inviting. The bar is always fast and friendly with the service, and the drinks are nowhere near weak (be careful!). I'm truly surprised more people aren't going to these shows. They have a wide variety of shows and seem to be exerts at each one. The tickets are inexpensive and the quality of show you get is something you would expect from a larger theater. Try immediately before everyone finds out! read more

Each and every performance I have seen there transports me to a bigger city. We are so fortunate to have such outstanding actors, producers, writers and more in this area who have an incredible new home. Next up is Grey Gardens which starts this Friday (Sept 16th). I've now seen 2 shows at freeFall- Cabaret & A Christmas Carol- and both were spectacularly done. From the outside, the theater doesn't look like much. It's actually quite easy to miss. A small ticketing/lobby/refreshment area is equally as modest. But, inside, it's a very well done black-box type theater. The capacity isn't much- and the stage is on the same level as the audience- so you feel like you are part of the show. The intimate setting of this theater makes you feel connected to the story. Bleacher style seats are set up on 3 sides of this theater- so shows are forced to be produced in the round- and the directors do a great job of adapting the shows. The production value is more than you'd expect of this small theater- sound, lighting, video, costume- all very well done. The performers in the shows have been outstanding. Really great talent. I do wish the tickets were a little cheaper- $40 for a Thursday night performance is a bit steep in my opinion, but I don't mind supporting the local theaters. They have some season ticket options which I assume make the individual shows cheaper. Although- you do save money on the beverages. A generous glass of wine or a beer only sets you back $5. Apparently the theater has only been around for 3 years, so I look forward to continuing to see shows here and see how it grows. read more

I have seen two productions at the FreeFall theater and have been incredibly and highly impressed with both of them The quality of the productions is beyond anything imaginable of a local theater. I have seen Cabaret and Spring Awakening, both of which have a darker and deeper tone and message to them, but both highly enjoyable. The talent that is cast at this theater is some of the best I've seen. Being in the entertainment industry, it is refreshing to see a theater take on some of Broadways edgier and more contemporary topics. The theater itself is very quaint and personal. As an audience member, you feel like you are so close to the story, that you are part of the story. Technically, the theater is well equipped with modern rigging, lighting and sound capabilities. With a beer, wine and snack bar close to the lobby, this is a great chance to get a cocktail and prepare yourself for an amazing night of theater. I recommend ANY production here. Enjoy! read more

This place is special. They select very interesting plays and the actors range from very good to superb. There's often an edginess, and very creative and original work that makes FreeFall unique IMO. Never boring. Stage design also excellent. Many memorable shows. Just saw The Glass Menagerie, very well done. Cabaret a few years ago was terrific, the lead role exceptional. I saw my first production at this theater last weekend, Harvey. It was awesome. The show was well-written and very funny - the acting was superb - the scenery was amazing. The theater is so small and intimate that you feel like you are part of the show, not watching in an audience. From what I've heard from others, all of the shows are like this. I absolutely loved this show, and will be back soon. I'm thinking about getting a season pass, I enjoyed the show that much! read more

this place is a real gem. i am not from florida so i don't know the tampa arts scene but man oh man... if this place is flying under the radar at all i would be shocked. quality line up of performances season after season. impeccable casting both show to show as well as the crew that stays year round. the owner and crew put their heart into everything they do and it shows. if you're looking for an intimate theater sized experience with touching and thoughtful performances i don't know why you would look any further than freeFall. they are amazing! go support local arts and become a member! it's well worth it. i will be attending many more shows whenever i'm in town. i'm only sad i don't live closer to come to them all! read more

I visited freeFall for the first time 6 weeks ago to see "Into the Woods" and I couldn't have had a better time. Every aspect of the production was outstanding, from the acting to the set, the costumes, the music, the lighting. I thought I was on Broadway. The seating was comfortable enough and the sight lines were excellent. With a reasonable price for tickets, I was thoroughly pleased with my experience there. I won't hesitate to see another show there in the future. read more

wow! wow! wow! just saw the preview show of "into the woods". it was fantastic! wonderful music & singing, funny, poignant, great acting & a creative set design for a small space & the costumes were artistic. a little intimate theatre with superb talent from the set design to the actors to the musicians! GO SEE A SHOW! there is nothing like live theatre & this is at its best. you'll go out with a big smile from "into the woods". we are use to paying around $200. for 2 good seats on broadway. the preview shows here are 1/2 price=$23.00 & after that its $43.00 per person! this is like a gift! read more
