I love this place! They show movies that have meaning and are less commercial than regular theaters. But you have to act fast because movies are only here for a day or two. The staff is great. The seats are comfortable. The snacks are plentiful. And now right together next-door they have a place to get cocktails, wine, beer, and bites before the show and after if you so choose.. We had a great first time experience recently. Although this is a small theater, it's affordable and staff were friendly. We didn't have a chance to try their popcorn or any drinks, but saw that they offer craft beer as well. The small theater has comfortable seating and A/C. The movie selections are great as well. We wish we lived closer to visit more frequently, but definitely recommend checking it out and will return soon! read more

Extremely dissatisfied with the dining experience (an hour late and food was expensive and bland with no sauces) and very disappointed in the the Rocky Horror Picture Show (Hell on Heels). This is not at all like the wonderful, original college experiences in the 80s... the person that took up 30 minutes getting the audience to scream vulgarities as loud as possible was obnoxious and disgusting. My 8 friends all felt the same. He could've been omitted. The volume on the original film was so low, it was impossible to hear.... None of us will go back to the theatre. read more

My husband and I had a date to Green Light Cinema and I've been trying to scheme when we can get out to St Pete again for another movie. I love an independent movie house. The nice lounge sections set up, actually affordable concessions, the fact that they drizzle real butter on your popcorn... What's not to love. We saw a really great movie and I can't wait to get back. The films they screen are curated really well. I've told plenty of family and friends about this spot. One of my favorite places in St. Pete! I check the website for showings probably two or three times a week because I love their selection of new releases, cult classics, and classic classics. Of course since it's not as commercialized as a chain theater is doesn't have some of the luxuries like recliner seats or a huge concessions menu (although they do have their own parking lot in the back)(and cheaper tickets than AMC), but Green Light Cinema isn't about that. It really focuses on experiencing art with your community, and I've had so many memorable, magical times here. I love that they collaborate with other local groups like Second Screen Cult Cinema, Green Bench Brewing, and Hell on Heels (Rocky Horror performance troupe) to offer even more fun events than what your usual indie theater would. And they're often the only ones in town showing certain new indie or foreign films, so I'm always super grateful to them for that. read more

We wanted to see a film that was only playing at Green Light. I forgot about purchasing tickets on-line but we were still able to get in and get popcorn and wine! The people up front were very efficient and we went in with no glitches. Parking was almost next door but pricey as it provided a 6 hr window of time and didn't have any times less. A friend in Atlanta mentioned a documentary playing in their city under limited release. I figured it was going only to the largest areas, and then would be streaming on some platform. But a quick check showed that the film was coming to St. Pete at the Green Light Cinema. I had heard of it, and love small independent movie houses, but have never been there. A quick call to a friend, and ordered two reserved seats online. Very reasonable and easy. The concession line was long, and we were going to eat dinner after so I skipped but I could see that the popcorn looked really good. Next time for sure. I had picked two seats in the back, and they were fine. That is until someone sat in front of us. Those people were talking and clearly they weren't in their selected/assigned seats. I'm tall, but this person was already blocking part of the screen, which was a big disappointment. You'd think the seats would be pitched more, but that isn't the case. As far as other reviews talking about reclining seats, maybe that was a thing of the past, because if they reclined, I didn't notice it, and didn't see anyone else reclining either. So after the trailers, we saw the back row was almost empty and moved back there, but the person's head (now 2 rows up from me) still blocked a smaller portion of the screen. If and when we go back, I'm thinking of bringing a seat cushion so I don't miss anything. This film was a documentary and every time they interviewed someone new, their name would splash on the screen. I must have moved my head 20 times during the film to read the name. I've not experienced this in any other theater, and as said earlier am above average height. The sound in the theater is excellent. Very clear and almost at times too loud, but for the type of film (rock themed documentary) it was fine. So pro-tip #1-seat cushion or try to select a seat with no one blocking your view. Pro-tip #2-We arrived 20 minutes early. Friend made a mistake and overlooked on street metered parking and instead went into a 717 lot. I was surprised to see a $15 rate, instead of an hourly option which is a complete rip-off. So anyone reading this should definitely look to park elsewhere unless they like overpaying. Other people seeing our plight told us we could park for $2-3 max, but by then it was too late. The Green Light is a nice theater. I found the bathrooms very clean and the staff nice. It's about 80 seats, so never going to be a huge crowd. read more

Green light cinema is a small Indy type theater locally owned and operated. When you walk in you go back decades. Simple counter with candy popcorn sodas and yes beer and wine. The owners run the counter too. Cute little lobby where early birds casually sip wine and chat away while waiting to take their seats. We saw Living which is an Oscar nominated film. Nothing fancy in the actual theater. No leather seats. But the ambiance takes you back to simpler times. Green light offers a membership for a small price, with discounts for movies and snacks. We really enjoy this gem downtown St Pete. Right now they're showing several Oscar nominated films before the Oscar awards on Sunday. read more

They play indie films, foreign films, they have improv, acting classes, movie trivia - it's a cinephile's dream really. And Mike the owner is almost always at the front and happy to chat movies. We purchased tickets for Belfast two weeks in advance we arrived and the theater was closed. No communication. Bad customer service!
