I opened one of the beef sticks I purchased from here and found it covered in mold. This is extremely concerning and unacceptable, especially since I've had issues with this place before. Owner and cashier are rude! They are stuck up and treat you like you are less than. Gas is ridiculously expensive as well. Go elsewhere!

There seems to be a real problem with the staff at this location. Rarely has one ever felt so unwelcome in a food mart before; and I've literally traveled the country trying them all out where I could. From the sour groaning about having to put down their newspaper to get to the cash register, to the flippant, mocking tone whilerepeating everything one says to them--the staff have no respect for the customer. Clearly full of hatred and disdain for not just myself but literally every person I know who's been forced to have to shop here, as it'ss the only store open late. For this small community, it's quite rare to encounter this sort of issue. We are a town of hard-working, considerate, helpful folks; none of those traits are to be found at this Shell Food Mart in Freeland, Washington. Too bad. It was once a great place, but this fairly 'new' ownership has really bruised this town's heart. I'd give them ZERO stars if I could. They always make sure your puppy is taken care of, when at the drive up window. They're grilled cheese sandwiches are amazing. Made with tomato and bacon. The customer service is always great. Just a heads up, if you need propane they won't refill your tank if it's raining. Went to get ours filled and he said no it's raining. Then we called same day to ask again because chevron was sold out and he said no they aren't filling it until Monday. So pretty much when he feels like it he will fill it. read more

Still gets 5-stars. Took my sister on my last visit to the area and she could not believe how delicious these were. So skeptical, I know, because it's a Shell Station. This gas station is great and the owner is so kind to his staff and customers. He ordered my preferred brands and they have a tasty burger diner that has vegetarian options as well. Really miss those garlic fries though! Very clean restrooms and convenient quick stop items if you need anything when other stores are closed. read more

One of the few places you can get a burger in the area 7 days a week. Food is good enough for the price. I take serious issue with the customer service, specifically, every single time I've been there, the cashiers are having a conversation on their bluetooth/ear buds. I've been there at 6 in the morning, middle of the afternoon, and night, and without fail, they can't take the time to get off a call with, what sounds like their friends, to just give a little attention to the customers. It motivates me to only go there only as a last resort. I try to support a local business and go back thinking it'll be different, but to no avail. read more

Its crazy to write a food review for a gas station burger stand but, hey - these burgers are the best on the south end of Whidbey Island. The food takes forever but they prepare it to order so your fries are always hot and crispy and your burger is sizzling. The milkshakes are also hand dippped and made with a blender to order. Inside they have a taco/burrito bar, which is pretty good, too. The full burrito is as big as a baby and cheap! read more

Customer service this morning was iffy at best. The clerk was unpleasant, especially when I couldn't understand what he was asking me. With hearing aids, masks and his heavy accent it was a difficult conversation and he made it very clear he was annoyed. I will not spend any more money at this location. read more

Three words: Chicken Bacon Swiss. Best "burger" at Shell Shack. The fries are sometimes awesome, sometimes so-so-- depends on how fresh they are, I guess. Overall, excellent "fast food" in Freeland. read more

I've used this Shell station for gasoline, diesel, beer/wine, and miscellaneous convenience items. Like all gas-stations on south Whidbey, the fuel prices are higher than the mainland, but this is expected. Otherwise, multiple pumps (but only one diesel) makes this station easy and available; likewise, the location is central and convenient. The decent selection of various items makes this an easy off-hour alternative to Payless, and the store section is clean and presentable. Overall, my go-to station in Freeland. read more

They must have upgraded the burgers and fries. These are great especially from a gas station. Actually kind of addictive. I went there about 4 years ago and I remember them being good but nothing out of the ordinary. Tried it recently and it was fantastic. Nice staff and they had all the sauces you could ever want. This is one place you have to stop and get some fuel. No not for the car,you! There are about 8!selections of burgers. The cheese burger, regular and the BOM Along with chicken burgers. Yes I have eaten at Tommy's ,Five Guys, In and Out, the Original McDonald's in LA.. Yeah even at the Hamburger Hamlet and yes the Habit Hamburgers. The paddy is hand made with onions pickles on a toasted bun. I had the BOM which is a combo of bacon,onion ,Swiss, and mushrooms .Wow! *Burning incense in a public venue like this is inconsiderate.* I am a local frequent shopper but strong odors like incense being burned at the register is nauseating. Aside from that; staff is polite and prompt, burgers are amazing even with a cook I'm unfamiliar with, orders are correct, store is clean and stocked. Wow! I stop for a fill up and what do you know...killer burritos. Yes there are burgers and such but the burritos are very tasty coming from the shell shack. Sunday June 11th a little after 3:00pm I went in to pay for fuel and get some junk food, and two employees were having a yelling fight. The cashier stopped in the middle of my transaction to go to the back and keep up the argument, with people in line behind me! It took awhile for me to get a word in edgewise to tell her I also needed fuel. There was a guy there who didn't come to the register to help get people out and he also didn't tell the girls to shut up since there were customers in the building. I actually really enjoy eating at the Shell Shack. They have delicious hamburgers that are definitely a step up from DQ. I also enjoy the taco bar, when I get there early enough to catch it. The milkshakes are delicious too, and several members of my family go there just for those in the summer. Our favorite flavor is Blackberry. The cooks are friendly, and you can see into the kitchen area; it looks clean. read more
