PRICES are SKY HIGH HERE! Not to mention Malt Balls being $34 a pound (apx) unbeknownst to me! They were in a small container which looked like the number $7 was on them. I thought that seems about right. I took them to the check-out and they rang up $17! Come to find out they were $34 a pound. Other items here are expensive too! This would include the frozen, organic fruit in bigger packages for around $20. read more

I'm on the road a lot for work and often stop for a quick lunch from the deli dept in back. They have gone back to making their own sandos and wraps () and they typically have 3 self serve soups to choose from. They also have a great meat dept which I always scan for deals. Whole food selection & quality without whole food baggage (and prices)? Apple fritters bigger than your face? Look no further than The Goose, should you be in the south Whidbey Island area. Here you will find a wide selection of fresh, beautifully displayed, reasonably priced produce, aisles of bulk items (including grains, coffee, chocolate, honey, and even pet snacks), a large wine selection, locally baked pies, cute cards by local photographers, and more! Cannot wait to revisit to fulfill my grocery shopping dreams. Pro tip: when bagging produce, remember to use yellow produce bags for organic, blue produce bags for non-organic. Shout out to thoughtful fellow customer who pointed out this difference to me. Also, the gigantic apple fritter is totally worth it - airy with a slight crisp on the crust and delightful pull-apart texture in the middle. I rate this 5 out of 5 yums! read more

Me and my co workers decided to stop here after a long day working with the US navy. We got food and some beer and the cashier looked at us and demanded id. Very nice store. Lots of great produce and many organic and bulk options. The store is clean, well organized and the staff is helpful.

They never, ever have enough registers open. Expect to wait in a long, slow moving line. Today was typical - one register open, with two others staffed, but using their 'Closed' sign. Plenty of staff busy talking, but only one register open. read more

A beautiful fresh fruit and vegetable produce section, a nice selection of fresh bakery breads from community bakeries, a nice soup bar for hot soup, excellent customer service, and a good selection of frozen foods are the highlights of this community grocery store. There are certain items that I can only find here, so I have now added this store to one of my regular stops when doing shopping errands in our South Whidbey Island community. A very good grocery store resource for our community. Customer service has been consistently positive here - this is one of the highlights of this store. I have experienced some less than optimum customer service from time to time at Payless in Freeland, so I really appreciate the consistently good and positive customer service that is provided at the Goose Community Grocer. read more

I used to shop local, but the food prices for this establishment and many others have me Running with the remainder of the island to Costco, Albertsons or Winco OFF ISLAND. The $15 bucks you for a whole chicken is just too much and I had no idea how much y'all have been overcharging locals until I started shopping overtown.... well now ya lost me and I'm sure many more to follow.... I just stopped today (8/26/2019) thinking maybe some fried chicken and bbq wings sounded good.... The food was tasteless and disgusting.... went in to the store around 2:00 to get some hamburger during their 1 day sale and they were out. i ultimately thought about it and decided to call the manager and complain and his comment was they had a number of people in and ultimately sold out quickly and I said I was =going complain, and he said that if I was going to be rude he hung up. before he hung up I suggested that they at least should have enough to last a day. Check the expiration dates closely here! I have shopped here several times only to go home and find out the loaf of bread was expired or the 7 dollar almond hummus I purchased has expired. I like to shop early in the morning when it's not crowded, but the workers tend to have their stuff everywhere while they are stocking products, completely blocking products, and act annoyed when you are trying to manuever through it with your grocery cart. read more

Our most preferred market on the south end. Prices here are much more reasonable compared to "pay more" in Freeland. The employees here are always so nice as well. If we do our shopping on the south end or even just need a few quick items. We would much rather make a longer drive to the goose. It's been a few years since the Goose opened up, amid a lot of hype that it was going to be THE store on the South End. I live one mile from it, and will drive the extra three to go to Payless Foods in Freeland. The store is poorly lighted, so it feels dirty. The aisles are crowded and narrow. There's not a lot of selection and I'm consistently shocked at the high prices. The only thing I go there for is the Bulk Foods section, which is unrivaled on Whidbey. Other than that, it's not a great shopping experience. I've never felt very important to the employees there, and the fact that they tend to look a little irritated and very casual-- not to mention they don't stop talking to each other while they're waiting on you-- really makes me think my business isn't very important to them. If I need a bag of ice or something bulk, I'll stop in. Otherwise, I'd rather go where I feel wanted. read more

The Goose is okay. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I got tired of all the hype about this place being a "community" market--not sure what that means really: that it's in a community? That the people who work there are from the community? Hmmm. I like that the seem to go out of their way to carry local products, and I also like their bulk food section, probably the best on the island. Otherwise, they are often out of stuff, and it seems that they don't seem to carry some 'generic' food items that should be staple for a market. One thing that I am not please with is they can't run my debit card as a debit card, only as a credit card, so no cash back. I asked about this and they said it was because my card is from a credit union. But hey, doesn't that fly in the face of being a "community store;" not taking a debit card from a credit union? read more

This was our grocery store of choice while visiting Whidbey for a few days. They have a great selection of healthy stuff, a great bulk selection and very friendly staff. The prices were a bit on the high side, but you expect that when shopping for quality ingredients. The free coffee at the door was reason enough for us to chose this place and I was thrilled to find organic chocolate and greek yogurt. Great store! read more

I'm a regular at the Goose, the employee's are super friendly and a lot of them know me by name. I find great sales on items I use regularly and I find that the prices are reasonable for a country store. I used to shop at the Goose when it was Casey's Red Apple. The Goose has a ton more specialty items and unique deals then Casey's ever had. I really love that the Goose stays open until 10pm at night unlike any other south end store. Finally a nice moderately priced grocery store that is in a great location. We've been waiting for this place to open up all summer long. It is conveniently located on the way to our place from the ferry. Some highlights are a great local and organic produce section, fresh deli department and also a suprisingly good wine selection too. The people that work there are very helpful and friendly. If they don't have something that you are looking for you can simply request it and it will be there the next time you shop! read more

I shop at the Goose, because I have to. Not a lot of options on the island. They are grossly overpriced like everyone here. They have moldy produce, crappy selection. Rude employees. Oh and the other day I go to get what is labeled as vegetarian minestrone soup, half way through I discover it has bacon in it! Bacon is not vegetarian! read more

I shop at the Goose...not on a regular basis since I live in Greenbank....but if I do not want to drive to Coupeville and go to the PC...this is the next place besides all the way to Oak Harbor for a serious shopping. I do not find it ostentatious like the grocery store I pass on the way to this one. They are a little pricey...but they have what you need...the produce is Great as is the bulk section, beer section and the wine selection. I love the free coffee as well... So here it is Valentines Day and my husband and I are looking forward to the offerings of wine tasting and doing a little shopping at The Goose. We shop at the Goose on a regular basis and even though the offering are limited at times we like to support our local businesses and we always feel good when we go there as most of our former students work there which is always good to see them. But today, was not a good day........We both teach and I never take my purse to school, because we ride the transit I have no reason to carry my purse. We went straight to The Goose after school and the two ladies pouring at the wine tasting informed me that I needed my ID and they would need to see that before they would pour me a tasting. I explained that I did not have my ID with me and that did not seem to matter to them at all...... never mind that I about to have my 65th birthday and I assure you I have not had ANY work done to indicate that I am younger than that! They were unyielding in their position so we both went home disappointed not so much that I did not get a twenty cent taste of wine but rather the rude treatment I had received and the just plain making me feel bad and unwelcome at this store. I would have probably gotten over this and continued to shop at The Goose, however, a friend and follow worker called me when we got home and told me she had gone to the tasting and she did not have to show her ID because she knew Rebecca and she was served without showing her ID at all. UMMMMMMM.....so let me get this right......If you know Rebecca, then the rules do not apply so much to the "State" laws of serving alcoholic beverages???? So here is my message to Rebecca.......if you are in management........then you should know that treating a customer like you treated me will only end up you losing customers....like me! read more
