Don't waste your time with this outfit. Have called multiple times and used their online service request at least a half dozen times with zero response. They have answering service which has no idea what this Freestate does, from where who knows, who can never seem to connect you with someone in the office. They'll tell you someone will call back but you'll have better chance winning the lottery than getting a call back. read more

A 22" Toro walk-behind needed a new blade, new wheels, a new belt for the front-wheel drive, and basic maintenance. I didn't have the tools or know how to do it myself, and I didn't have a way to bring the mower to a shop, so I called Steve. We sorted everything out in a few emails, and we set up an appointment. The morning of, he showed up, plugged in for power, and got to work addressing the maintenance issues. He was done in maybe 30 minutes, and the mower looks and runs great. The price tag was no shocker, and Steve was down to earth and professional. You'd never know he is a one-man operation! As such, he is usually really busy, so please keep that in mind. Totally frustrated. Similar to another person in the reviews I too found out that it's just an answering service for a "lawn mower guy". I called, they called back two days later. I set the appointment with "Steve", I told him I need to schedule a certain day because I was already having my HVAC checked that day and would combine the two appointments so I could be home. Waited all day, a Friday, a no show for three pieces of equipment. Called back, figured out it was an answering service and decided to call back Monday. Called Monday, received a call back Wednesday and Steve says, oh I wondered what happened, I went to a house in Bowie, asked how the HVAC went and the customer said, it's fine why? So, he laughed and said, I guess that wasn't you?? I said no and rescheduled, again, a no show, this time I had his cell, has gone right to voice mail. I put on this review to share my experience about the customer service when I tried to make a schedule with the technician. The Freestate Lawn Mower's phone number is "receiver" of all phone call requests and then they send the requests to the technician. From there, the technician will call you to schedule an appointment. I made the first phone call a few weeks ago because my lawn mower won't start anymore. The spokesperson have my information and the technician called me once and left me a message. I tried called back many time and it went straight to the answer machine. I called back to the Freestate Lawn Mower's call center again and they put down my information probably 2-3 times already and I still have not receive a phone call from the technician! Maybe this is just me that happen to few and unfortunately it's one of experiences I did not have a pleasure with. read more

After making an appointment, I called the morning Steve was to arrive. I had no return phone call to confirm. My husband called and finally was told Steve would be there later the day for the appointment. Steve was friendly when he was at the house, but something felt wrong, like phony wrong. Well, we found out what that wrong was a few days later..... Steve told us he would get a price on a carburetor for one of the tractors and set up a time to pick the mower up along with another mower he was going to have to take to the shop to figure out what was wrong. STEVE NEVER CALLED BACK, NO ONE FROM STEVE'S BUSINESS CALLED US BACK. HE LEFT US HANGING FOR BOTH MOWERS. HE CHARGED $240 to give the gas mower a once over put some oil in and clean it up a little bit. We just got back from taking the same mower to JOHN from "SMALL ENGINE REPAIR" in Huntingtown, Md (who was very easy to work with) We dropped the mower off to John and he had the new carburetor installed and ready to go in an hour for $75 installation ! Also John told us that the oil put in by Steve was way over filled and he had to drain a lot of it. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS OVERCHARGING NO-SHOW STEVE from FREESTATE MOWER REPAIR!!! I called Steve at Freestate on Monday, and he was able to come out the next day. My walk behind mower, which had been tuned up (by a different company) early in the season, was not starting. After looking at it, he started to do his diagnostic testing. He took off the air filter and sprayed a little intake cleaner into the motor through the vents (for lack of a better term) - and the mower started right up, and stayed running without issue. While he was servicing, we talked a little about the mower and general maintenance. He also checked the oil and filled it as it was low (which is shocking as I don't have a leak and it was in the shop this season). Steve was knowledgable, personable, professional, and offers very competitive prices. I would not hesitate to use him again. read more

Excellent service - Steve is the owner and does it all. Freestate is a mobile small engine repair company - meaning that they come to your home, business, etc and perform the work and repairs on site. No dragging your mower to a repair shop or sending it off site for 3 weeks. It's all done same day in a few hours. He manages his website, takes the calls and schedules the appointments, comes out in his own truck, and does all the repairs himself. This means that you will never have the confusion of some Handyman coming out and not knowing what you wanted or saying "I didn't know." Steve was very friendly and professional, but also was very technically savvy and made some minor repairs without even charging me. He was there for a job to get the mower running, and he didn't come back at me with nickel-n-dime charges as he uncovered minor contributing factors - he simply made the corrections and told me about it afterwards. I HIGHLY recommend Steve and Freestate for any working professional who just doesn't have time to take their mower in or do it themselves. Lousy service, techs are hardly there to answer your call. Say it will be done and runs into more days with them giving you lame excuses. Rude and demeaning computer geeks. Take it to Best buy they sit down with you and ask specifically what is wrong, great customer service. Have to give them one star to post this review. read more

I was pleased to have a person actually answer the phone when I called. I spoke to Steve and he concisely explained the services available and the approx costs. I schedules an appt and was pleasantly surprised to hear from Steve a day early saying he had finished a previous appt and could come then if I was around. Happily I agreed and he showed up, was polite, and very knowledgeable. He was able to replace the carburetor, the spark plug and change the oil, check the belts and get my snow blower ready for the winter. He also serviced my pressure washer while he was here. All for a very reasonable price and conveniently done at my home. I would highly recommend this service. read more
