As a licensed professional, this hearing and criminal charge was a big deal and could have had huge impacts on my life and career. I spoke to him on a Monday or a Tuesday and I had a hearing scheduled for the following Monday. He wanted the entire fee upfront. I simply didn't have all of it. I told him I could give him a substantial down payment and could pay him the entire fee within a couple weeks. He explained how he had such respect for my profession as he had worked in my field in the past. He assured me he was with me and was going to help me. He told me he would call my by the end of the week with a payment arrangement he would accept. So I relaxed. I didn't call anyone else. By Friday I hadn't heard from him. I was very anxious but I just trusted he would keep his word. After all, he was a recommendation from another attorney with whom I liked and had experience with. On Saturday, I tried to call his office because I had received no communication from his office whatsoever. No calls. No emails. Nothing.
