Many, many, many years ago I was in shape. Really good shape. In the intervening years I've made…read moremultiple runs recapturing that youthful look and feeling. Middling results at best. Ok, truth be told, I showed up at the gym around once a month and managed to produce soreness and random injuries that took a week or more to recover from. I was not in a good place. My wife was gentle, but insistent: "You're looking kinda pudgy" and "Did you move from your desk to do more than eat today?" She had a point. Finally, to avoid further spousal abuse, I agreed to meet Kathleen. Next thing I knew I was working out a couple of times a week in these structured, scheduled sessions. Kathleen's like that - she gets you moving. I felt better. A lot better. Then boxing. Not the "get the tar beat out of you by some incredibly quick, in shape guy" kind of boxing, rather, intense classes that focus on skills, mobility, flexibiltiy, quickness, and strength. The coach, mentor, instructor, Robert, is talented and very, very professional. I'm hooked. And wiped at the end of each class. It's a good feeling. Now, Kathleen and my wife have conned me into yoga. Seriously. Never saw that coming. For the uninitiated, yoga was designed by really good looking, really, really flexible women to humble middle aged inflexible men. It works. I'm humbled. I also feel a lot better after these sessions that work on flexibility, coordination, and balance. I actually kinda like this stuff. (Don't tell my wife). Bottom line: Kathleen and her crew are motivating and supportive in a way that works. The workouts are professional and structured, but varied and interesting. If you are like me and need that extra structure to keep going, this is a great program.

If you have any kind of an issue or problem with the Bolder Boulder…read moredo not contact the customer service department. They do not respond and they do not care. I left voicemails for Emily, head of the Customer Department, for more than three weeks and never got a response. I could not send an email because my emails were hacked and I am still trying to straighten them out. At this point, I am certain that if I had been able to send an email, Emily would not have responded. After being completely ignored by Emily I wrote a letter to Cliff Bosley, director of the Bolder Boulder. I wrote the letter more than two weeks ago and am still waiting for a reply. On the morning of this year's 10K I had a family emergency and could not participate in the race. It was my intention to see if it were possible to get a credit for next year's race since I paid for this year. Obviously, the answer is no because I have been completely ignored. I have done the Bolder Boulder many times before and enjoyed it. But, I will never do it again. It will not be a loss to the 10K organizers because the race is very successful and they do not care about individuals or their complaints. Why does the Bolder Boulder even have a customer service department which does nothing? Why is Emily even employed by them when she does not do her job? And, what does Cliff Bosley direct considering that he does not supervise the staff? These questions are entirely rhetorical and I expect no answers. If it were possible I would give them ZERO STARS.

Always heard of the Bolder Boulder and it's been on the bucket list…read more What, a 10k with 40,000 to 50,000 runners? Race day registration? No limit to the participant list? This has to be a logistical nightmare! Couldn't have been more wrong. What fantastic management. Found parking with little issue, the wave starts are well managed and the race course itself was fun. Where else will a 10k have an Elvis, belly dancers, slip-n-slides, donut stops, jello shots, etc? Such fun! AND the stadum finish with F-16 fly overs and parachute drop-ins made it such a great time. At the finish there is food and water and beer, etc. And it flows too! Not a big backup as one may imagine. The only thing that surprised me was there were no finisher's medallions. Those would have been a nice touch.
