Great room, good service, and ridiculously large servings highlighted my visit to Fremin's. The space itself is historic and beautiful, with a nice tin ceiling and dark wood. The place was busy, but did not seem crowded. Our server was attentive and pleasant. He did ask (the only time I have ever been asked this), "One check or two?" at the end of the meal. Odd. My crab appetizer was so rich that I felt the need to take a break during its consumption: cheese, crab in sauce, breadcrumbs, and three huge chunks of bland garlic bread. Bread is really big here; a small loaf was brought out before the appetizers, the crumbs and chunks mentioned, and the breading in the entree will allow you to starch your clothes from the inside. By the time the entree arrived, I was already stuffed due to the carbs and fat from the appetizer. The "Stuffed Shrimp" was actually a large plate of four very bready shrimp boulettes and four large pieces of steamed broccoli over a pile of overcooked, not-very-good pasta. Our other entree was a spinach salad, served with a boat of bacon dressing; when poured over the greens, the dressing covered them with bacon fat and large pieces of crisp bacon. We gave up and left with the largest doggie bag I have ever carried. Flavors were good throughout, although the meal would have been much better without the cream, bread, butter, bread, cheese, fat, bread, etc. that smothered everything. I was very upset after a huge dinner with 2 families, half from NYC and the A/C was out. Everyone was dressed nice and we all were dripping with sweat. I know things break but when you have a business and have events there, management should be sure things work properly. Especially with prices like yours. When it comes to fine dining in Thibodaux, this is the top spot. Aside from the bad acoustics in the place, the food, wine, and experience are the best in town. Order some fresh appetizers and enjoy an apperitivo. There's lots of seafood on the menu to choose from, but I typically go for the filet with crabmeat sauce. read more

Beautiful setting and atmosphere. In the center of Thibodaux. They start you off with a home made French bread that was delicious! Their lobster Mac and cheese was very tasty as well. They sat us in the middle of the restaurant. Acoustically this place echoes so bad that you can't even hear the person next to you. I specifically asked the guy seating the patrons if we could get a booth and he said, right this way, and sat us in the middle. The food was ok. I've had much better for the price. read more

The best Thibodaux has to offer in fine dining. Excellent food. Great staff. And the beautiful historic building has been brought back to life! The Fremins have done an EXCELLENT job restoring the building. The restaurant is elegant and comfortable. My personal favorite.... The filet mignon! You can't go wrong here. read more

Our waiter, Treva, deserves 5 stars and the food is excellent, but I'm giving the restaurant 3 stars for two reasons: the hostess tried to seat us at the worst table by the bathroom when we walked in 30 minutes before closing time on 4/23/15 despite only one other table being occupied and when I asked that my steak be more fully cooked (my filet had been served rare instead of medium), the chef returned the rest of my plate cold and with an inferior cut of meat. My companions all thoroughly enjoyed their food and, even cold, my food tasted great. My friend was celebrating her birthday & the complementary dessert was absolutely beautiful. I'll definitely try this place again but hope they train the chef & hostess on better customer service before then. read more

Very nice decor - building history is given on the back of the menu. As for the food our two dishes where very big on flavor but also very big on Salt. Some chefs unfortunately seem to over do it - maybe they are trying to sell more beer. As with most area restaurants the bread was great as was our service. The chargrilled oysters were excellent! They were full of cheese and spices and served piping hot, and a nice change from the traditional recipe at Acme Oyster House. The special for the night was veal cutlet with crabmeat in a sauce that put me into orbit! It was so tender and a delight to my tastebuds! The cannoli with pistachio ice cream for dessert was a refreshing finish to an outstanding dining experience...cudos to Matthew, our waiter, and the servers that assisted him..I still give Fremins 5 stars even though the hostess that greeted us, I think her name was Melanie, had the personality of a broomstick. The wine list has a 400% markup, really guys, there's no need to price wine so high..lower your bottle prices and you will sell a lot more...needless to say, I saw most of the patrons ordering beer and wine by the glass... We brought in our own wine and paid the $25 corkage fee. In closing, my wife and I would definitely recommend Fremins to our friends and would dine there again if we ever have a reason to visit Thibodaux, it's an oasis in the night in a sleepy little town! read more

Tonight was one of the worst dinning experiences of my life! My wife and I showed up without reservations. We were told that they would place us in the V.I.P. room. The V.I.P. room was like an igloo. (It was freezing in that room.) While we were freezing in the V.I.P. room all I could see where vacant tables in the main section of the restaurant. We finished our meal and the tables were still vacant in the main area of the restaurant. When the waitress brought the check I asked questions about why we were sent to the V.I.P. room. Her response indicated that the other tables were reserved. That's fine but, nobody else was occupying the other tables while we ate an entire meal. When she returned with my credit card after I paid the check, she threw it at me. At that point I asked to speak to a manager. When I explained to this person the reason for my complaint, he actually threatened me and told me to never return to the restaurant again. I have spent a few thousand dollars eating at Freemin family owned restaurants in the past. As of tonight, they will no longer receive a penny of my business. I will do all that I can to be sure that none of my family or friends are subject to this kind of abuse. read more

What a fun time I have when I dine with Fremin's! My dining needs with friends are taken care of in a quality way. Staff is courteous, knowledgeable, and love to be friendly. Fremin's was recommended by a co-worker for good steak. It was so much more. Started with the smoked chicken Mac n cheese and a bowl of duck and andouille gumbo among three of us. Both dishes were delicious. My 7 year old loved the gumbo that I struggled to part with. She kept asking for more duck. For entrees, my wife ordered the portabella mushroom burger with homemade potato chips which she said was outstanding. We ordered the mini seafood platter for my daughter. Catfish, shrimp, oysters and some crawfish tails with hush puppies and fries. She enjoyed the food and will probably not share the to go box with her siblings. I ordered the 7 oz filet with roasted potatos. Filet was cooked and served to perfection. Tender enough to cut with fork. Overall Fremin's was a very enjoyable dining experience. I love to lunch at Fremin's. The restaurant itself can get a little cramped because they've crammed a lot of tables into a small restaurant. But their food is great and pretty reasonably priced on the lunch menu. Please, please, please do yourself a favor and get a cup of the duck and andouille gumbo. Terrible and over priced. A lunch salad was $20 bucks and it was the oddest salad that I had-pesto sauce was used on it. I asked the waitress if the salad was gluten free since I have been recently diagnosed with a food allergy. She said she checked, she never came back to confirm or deny until I asked. At that point she was like-I told them to take out the pine nuts is that okay? I wanted to laugh since a nut allergy is a very different thing than not being able to eat gluten. Never mind the fact that pesto sauce is made out of pine nuts...and hey there was pesto sauce on my salad.
