Fremont Bank screwed me, twice in 6 months. In January of this year I approached Fremont Bank for a refi of my house and in the process I had a parallel deal in play which they told me to cancel or their deal would not be pursued with me. I did that, and then they refused the deal! They refused it because I proactively told them I'd filed amended tax returns with the IRS, no particular issue other than an error and a few thousand dollars to pay - which I paid. However, IRS didn't reflect the amended returns due to some latency in updating their records. This discrepancy prompted FB to turn down the deal, and I was unable to restart the other one they had me cancel. It gets worse. I waited a few months for the IRS to process the returns, rates went up in the mean time. I went back to Fremont Bank and started a new deal, paid for a new appraisal which came in higher than expected and was happy for a few days. Then, FB came back and said they won't do the deal because I have too many pet parrots. Recall this is round two of dealing with this bank and they knew in January about my pet birds. I am stunned by this chain of events and am writing to shed light on the practices of this particular bank. My husband went into this bank to cash a check that is drawn off of this bank . He has 2 other financial institutions he has been with for many years . When he explained to the teller 4733 . She asked if he would like to open an account my husband said no thank you. She was cashing out the check a very large 5 digit check and he asked because she did not ask how wouLd you like your bills as most banks do if he could have large bills she said NO that she didn't have any . Gave my husband small bills that did not even fit in the white letter envelope she gave him did not even count the money back to my husband before she gave him the money as tellers are required to do as not to be over or short in their drawer. He counted it I in front of her . Walking inner this bank looking like a blue collar worker doors obviously is not a good thing to do . The account that they hold their is a long standing customer . To treat one of their employees in that manner is very unprofessional . I would have expected better treatment from this bank located inn Walnut Creek . Since the beginning of January, I have been trying to get an issue with my savings account resolved. After 2 in bank visits to Walnut Creek, many emails, and several phone calls the issue is still not resolved. Calling the general phone number is of no use. I have been a great customer since 2002. Terrible,terrible and terrible !! I went to this bank to cash out a check from the Equity line of credit. This account is in my Wife name but we hold title together.The woman (Cashier) knows me because me and my Wife have being there few times before .She asked for 2 form of ID and also asked me if I have an account with Fremont bank.She say she have to call my Wife and verify after that my Wife call but another cashier who I have no idea who he was say that they have another issue with the check.There was not other issue with the check I know that for fact.Fremont bank claim to be a super secure bank when comes to make their feel like they are stilling they own money.Went comes to secure my money and their favor the security is not so tidy and they make mistake in they own favor.Las January I withdraw $5000 from this account.,a month later I saw that the account was charged 2 times for the same $5000 so I owned the bank $10.000 instead of $5000 and no one at the back gave us any explanation never the less am still waiting for Fremont bank to give us back the interest we paid for those xtra $5000 it didn't happen and most like it it never will.If you want to be treated like thieve this is the bank for you.If I didn't catch the mistake I would being charge for $5000 that I never got and the will be $5000 richier. read more

These people are terrible! I went in to order foreign currency. I signed all the documents. They all had my name and account info on them. Today I went in to pick my order up. The invoice had a different person's name on it and a different account number! They withdrew and gave me money from someone else's account. To fix the problem, rather than file a report or notify someone, they simply transferred to amount from my account to that person. I'm sure they didn't even contact the other person to notify them of the mistake. I filed a report with the main office. Hopefully they'll address the issue. read more

I have been with Fremont Bank in Walnut Creek for over 7 years, and I could not be happier! I used to use the ATM primarily, but have found the interpersonal contact with the staff to be most pleasant. Avinash Bhatia and Ana Morales are the Senior Tellers. I have gotten to know them over time and I enjoy seeing them....it is so nice to be recognized and welcomed back when I come in the branch! As well, Ana and Avinash do their jobs with the utmost efficiency. Whether it be a quick deposit or a complicated transaction, I am in and out within minutes. do not try to get a mortgage with the clown show known as fremont bank. it took these idiots 5+ months to close a simple, very low loan to value, high credit score, superbly qualified loan. i barely heard from my loan agent (a shmuck named steve) and weeks would go by with no word of any progress. the underwriters made so many mistakes that it seemed like it was their first day on the job. it's really amateur hour over there. they couldn't do anything right. eventually, after needlessly going around and around, i got my loan. however, they're so bad at what they do i would strongly recommend not doing business with curley, larry, and moe aka fremont bank. read more

Regarding Sean Grovier: Sean has been exceptionally helpful to me over the time it took to get our Fremont Refi approved and funded. There were some complexities and obstacles involved regarding paying off a first and second mortgage (i.e. Home Equity Line) from two different banks. I've been a customer over a year & I got great service from this branch until recently when I went in and tried to open up a safe deposit box for the first time. The experience this time was very horrible. The minute I went to the teller, I was getting this weird look from her, almost like she was staring me down. Maybe it was my beard I don't know. I felt very uncomfortable. She started to process opening a safe deposit box, then she had another guy continue with the process. This guy took his time and seemed detracted, He then had that same teller print all the receipts taking his time as if no one is standing in line and no one was helping the other customers. Me along with the rest of the customers were just waiting and seeing these two chatting about how to print up a simple receipt. Finally after all of that, customers who were patiently waiting, this guy instead of calling more tellers to help other customers, he attempts to assist another employee at another desk while holding my receipts, then going back in the back, disappears and coming where I've been waiting at his desk the whole time. Then he tells me he can't get the lock open to the safe deposit box. You can't get a simple box open and you expect me to trust the integrity of security of your safe deposit box?? I immediately canceled on the spot. I was very frustrated walking out of the bank. I'm very disappointed how I was treated after all these years. I don't think I'am walking in that branch anymore until they either re-train those tellers or discipline them. You just don't treat your customers that way because they look different than you!! Also, it shouldn't take you 30 minute to open up a simple safe deposit box. read more

She is absolutely the best: intelligent, great problem solver, understands her field extremely well and is always friendly and on your side. I have not been as satisfied with other personal by phone at Fremont Bank's customer service center who have made me out to be a problem rather then finding a solution to problems with my account but Nargis is so wonderful that when I turn to her she always finds a quick and superior suggestion or solution. In working with Abby in the branch and Valerie in the call center, i received outstanding customer service. Both were very professional, patience, and kind while assisting me setup up the escrow account though I did not have my records to assist them. With all of the internet banking, I miss this type of customer care in banking today and their approach reminded me of a long ago era. From the moment you are buzzed in (yes, they are fantastic when it comes to security) you are greeted with a smile. The ladies on the teller line are quick, friendly, and know their stuff. I had a recent horrible experience with this bank's lending department. When I contacted the bank, I told them I had 35 years experience in Mortgage Lending. I knew the issue would be how they treated my retirement portfolio, as in my past experience it could vary widely from lender to lender. I was looking for a small equity line at a very low loan to value with excellent credit and reserves. I specifically asked the loan officer to contact their underwriting department with all my information to see if I met their criteria. I was assured my profile met their requirements. One month later after sending in the exact documents I had first described in my initial contact, I was told I did not qualify for reasons that were totally different from what I was first told. I am extremely unhappy that they saw no problem in wasting my time. I have another lender who will give me an approval, but I wanted to get my home improvement going weeks ago. However, I wanted to say that I heard immediately, via Yelp, from the bank and they gave me the information I needed to use the online payment process. I applied this summer for a loan with Fremont which they approved. But their appraiser undervalued my home by about $50,000. So I declined the loan. They said to try again after the summer sales were done. I then applied atPatelco but was denied for a 3 year old bankruptcy, even though we now pay our bills on time. So I went back to Fremont Nov. 2017, we went through the whole process again, this time after the house across the street sold for $500,000, smaller than mine, when they valued mine around $400,000. And then after a month or so of getting them all the documentation, we were declined the loan! Why? Too many credit inquiries. And neither of the customer service people I dealt with Steve Webster or El Vergel De Dios bothered to call or email me. They just sent a form letter. My family has been doing business with Fremont Bank for the past few years due to their great rates for their mortgage loans. When it was time for me to get a loan, I went to Sean Grovier, their local loan officer. He was very friendly and knowledgable about the entire process. When my offer was accepted, we had a very short time period to close, however Sean assured me he would close on time. The thing that differentiates Sean among all other loan officers I have met with, was the fact that he will fight for YOU. He wont give you a run around and leave you hanging. I'm not a client of this bank, and due to the recent service I received at this bank I never will be. I tried to cash a check here, written to me from one of their clients. It was a payroll check. There were 3 people working in the bank. A teller, the bank manager, and one other man. All 3 of them made me feel like a thief for trying to cash the check, drawn against their bank. I was furious when I left there. I went to my Wells Fargo Bank, and received the exemplary service I have come to expect from a bank. I could not agree more with the previous review. This was my first time working with Sean Grovier, and I certainly hope I'll have the opportunity again in the future. His knowledge and savvy is as good as it gets, and he patiently explained every step and answered any and all questions I had along the way. In my particular case, we were dealing with a HUD-owned property, a painfully unresponsive and inept asset manager, and a title company that just seemed to keep losing things we were sending them. To say it was an arduous process would be a gross understatement, but Sean made it his personal mission to get the deal done. I honestly can't say that another loan officer could/would have worked through things the way Sean did. He genuinely and personally cared about getting my loan funded, and it showed. My loan officer, Sean, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful (always returned my calls). The cost was minimal in comparison to refinancing with a credit union. The risk you take with a broker is that your loan may be sold while Fremont Bank keeps their loans in-house. My refinancing took a total of 5 weeks and the signing was completed in their Walnut Creek office by a notary--can that get any easier. I highly recommend Fremont Bank, but being in finance myself, stay on top of all aspects (don't wait 6 weeks). I was upfront and stated what I wanted and how much time I had---Fremont Bank exceeded my expectations. In addition, I walked out with a little bonus for opening a Cornerstone Membership. read more

I was with Bank Of America for 20 years. I am a small business owner and the recession almost forced me to close my doors. During this time I also had accounts with Wells Fargo and Citibank. Both Personal and Professionally I was let down time and time again by these banks. Instead of helping me through this time I was squeezed dry. How does one create a face to face relationship with your bank manager and tellers if they keep changing every 6 months. I needed something more personal. I needed the bank to know me and my business. Yes, the rules have not changed, banks need to make money and they are not giving money away, but at least I would feel that I mattered, that my business at the bank mattered. I have been with Fremont bank now for over 2 years and they have all my business including personal. Even though the management did change once, my relationship with everyone and I mean everyone at the branch has saved my day more times than I can count.
