I was especially impressed by their ingenuity in designing shutters for an unusual trifold window in my living room. Prior to finding French Custom Shutters, I asked two other window coverings businesses to come out to take a look at my window to see what they could do. We recently had French Custom Shutters complete a job at our home. It was the second time we had used their services. Several years ago they upgraded our closet doors to a shutter style as well as a set of folding shutters for one of our sliding doors. We were very happy with their work and everything is still like new after several years. This job was an upgrade to our pantry located in the hallway. The existing was original equipment installed at the time the home was built. It was time for an upgrade. The problem was finding a contractor who could do what we wanted. Since we wanted the doors to match our other shutter doors, we contracted French Custom Shutters to see if they could also build the internal cabinet. We wanted slide out shelves as the pantry was 32 inches deep and fixed shelves made it difficult to use the entire shelf. Marty agreed to come out and look at the job. We discussed what we wanted and he had some great ideas to make it better. He agreed that they could do the work. It was installed early last week. It looks great. They provided everything we wanted. The workmanship is topnotch. The installers did a great job. They were done by noon, but had everything done and cleaned up. Everything was painted to match existing including molding at the ceiling and floor and the face matched up to the existing base molding. Looks like it has been there forever. THE BEST SHUTTERS! Marty is very professional and an expert in his field. I called him to measure for wood stained shutters in my loft/landing area. We needed to match the stain of the door next to the window. When Marty was at my house, I told him about my dilemma about getting built in bookcase made with a stain that would match the shutters. The bookcase was to be installed directly below the shuttered window. Marty said they would be able to build the bookcase. His quote for both the book case and large shuttered window was extremely reasonable. All my shutters in my house are from French Shutters, so I know their finish quality is excellent. About 3-4 weeks later, my shutters & bookcase were ready for installation. The finish and stain are absolutely beautiful and match the cherry finish of the door next to it perfectly. Marty's company is responsive, and very well priced. I had previous experience in my last house with cheaply made shutters that don't hold up with time. In my current house, all my shutters are from Marty. My "old" shutters are 14 years old and they look and function like they are brand new. Marty makes quality products that last a lifetime. He and his crew are very professional and want to make sure that his customers are happy with the work. I HIGHLY recommend them. I have worked with a lot of contractors in my house. We have a new house built after the Cedar fire made of 8" walls and 11" roof panels of solid styrofoam "SIP" panels that allows no heat to get in. The window sun heat is amazingly obvious - even with dual glazing, dark tint and Low-e. After we moved in - it has been over 5 years since the French installation of 6 large windows south and west facing interior white basswood shutters. Personal and professional operation. They are holding up well, operate well, and when closed they eliminate the radiant heat. I plan on getting an estimate for 10 more this week to be installed before November. I recommend them. I can't speak for the quality of the finished product of French Customer Shutters, Inc., but by all accounts they create and install beautiful, quality plantation shutters. Unfortunately, I will never know. I felt Mr. French was rude and condesending in his tone when communicating via email. I'm of the mind that a company is only as good as the name it carries and Mr. French is "the" company. Will I go with another company? Yes. Customer service from the gent after whom the company is named should be better. Remender Mr. French, written communications can't convey your tone and intent. If you write poorly and abruptly, you run the risk of turning off poential customers. My potential order was for nearly $10,000. That may be a small project for your company, but its a large, substantial purchase for most customers. I would happily even pay more to a company who treats its potential customers with dignity and respect. You could have at least waited until the shutters were installed before treating me as if I were an idiot. Good day Mr. French....best of luck in the future. read more
