When I'm serious about doing some farmers' market shopping I visit the Anne Arundel County Farmers' Market off of Riva Road. This market is open year round on Sundays and in the summer they add Saturdays. The covered pavilion hosts a variety of vendors. Beyond farmers selling fruits and veggies there are vendors selling seafood, cheese, baked goods, coffee, jewelry, pickled veggies, jams, and illustrated note cards among other local items. The parking lot can be busy, especially in the summer months, but spots turn over quickly.

I arrived about eight minutes before opening and found a line already stretching along the side of Crooked Hammock. Like anyone else, I walked to the end of the line. As I crossed the parking lot with my dog on a leash, the woman stationed at the entrance looked directly in our direction, yet said nothing. Only after the line began moving and I had waited to reach the entrance was I told that dogs are not allowed in the market. I was then directed to a sign posted at the entrance. I explained that because I had joined the line from the back, I never passed the entrance and therefore never saw the sign. When I asked why no one had mentioned the policy when I first joined the line, I was told they hadn't seen me. That was surprising, since I had clearly seen the attendant looking our way. This is an outdoor venue, and as I was approaching the market I had even seen another leashed dog walking through the parking lot, so there was nothing to suggest pets weren't permitted. I completely respect the market's right to have a no-dogs policy. My disappointment isn't with the rule itself, but with how it was communicated. After waiting in line, it was frustrating to be turned away when a simple heads-up as I arrived could have saved everyone the inconvenience. If dogs are prohibited, the market should post signs where people join the line or at multiple locations around the parking area so visitors can see the policy before waiting. I had every intention of supporting the local farmers, and unfortunately I left without being able to do so.

Our favorite vendor is Howard Hughes and his lovely wife Carol. We buy a new cutting board almost every time we visit because they are so beautiful. We use them as cheese boards and as serving trays because it would seem wrong to mar them. But that is just us. These are genuinely nice people. We also bought edible flowers, local honey, local strawberries and chia teas while we there. Great stop on a Saturday morning.

It's located right in the city of Baltimore under the highway bridge on E Saratoga St. Street parking is free and i guess there is a way to reserve parking in line now. Mercy hospital has also offered free parking in an adjacent lot. The market is open on Sundays for the season and is such a delight. The vendors are very busy but eager to assist. The prices are fair. Need a coffee fix? The local Zeke's coffee is on site to assist! Many fresh foods, plants, and seafood to choose from. Definitely worth a visit!

It's open every Sunday May - September 9-1 pm. We got there at noon, so most of the produce was sold and some vendors were packing up and taking down their tents. The variety of vendors is amazing. Baked goods, booze, plants, veggies, and craft goods to name a few. I didn't see corn (too early) or peaches which is what I would have liked to purchase. Then... one vendor had left and returned with freshly (yes, just picked within the hour) picked strawberries. They were the sweetest and most delicious strawberries I have ever had in recent years. People were scooping up the limited supply four at a time! I bought one pint, but should have bought more. My friend bought two, and she bought some flavored olive oil for her budding chef husband. One of the plant guys sold her a large mint plant for $5 because it was the end of the day, and he was out of the small ($4) size she wanted. Plants were cheaper here than my local farmers, market just outside DC. I'll have to make a special plan to stop here the next time I'm at the beach.

I actually…read moredidn't know about the Farmers Market until I spotted one of my favorite dessert shops are vendors at this location. So what did I do, planned to go first thing Saturday morning! Located at the Crofton Library parking lot, parking for the Market is onsite - front and back parking lot options, street parking and the church across the street provides parking. Open at 8am - noon and food trucks until 2pm on Saturday's, I saw any and everything you could imagine. Farm fresh produce, pies, goats milk soap, freshly pressed juices, speciality cookies and cupcakes, and EMPANADAS! We were like kids in a candy store, so clearly everything I just listed, we purchased. All of the vendors we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The Farmers Market opens in May and closes for the season in November. My top 3 vendors, Sugar Butter Love, DMV Empanadas, and the Goats Milk Soap vendor - sorry can't remember their name. All had quality options to purchase. The Market has a website to check out the vendors that will be on display, as well as social media pages. I was impressed and will absolutely be back! Note to the wise, bring a reusable bag or two to collect your purchased items. I even brought an insulated bag for my hot/cold items.
