Clean and Fast. Large waiting area for take outs. A few tables set up for eat in patrons. Or sit and wait for take outs. Daily specials posted on wall. Very busy. Walls, floors, ceilings and to go area clean. Back area /cooking area, could not be seen from ordering area or waiting areas. Ordered the fried flounder with coleslaw and French fries. Also ordered the crab cake sandwich on potato bread. Tartar sauce, lettuce and tomato included. This will become my go to takeout place for seafood. Very happy! read more

I often crave fried fish. Well this spot satisfies that craving. Their menu is basic but exactly what you need from a "seafood spot". Crab legs, shrimp, mussels, crab cakes , fried fish, po' boys, hush puppies, corn and broccoli....what else do you need when it comes to quick seafood....the place is clean, never really busy and they have specials such as a $5 whiting sandwich. I have never complained about their food or service....dont expected to be "wowed" however it satisfies a basic seafood craving. read more

My mother in law is from North Carolina and a big seafood fan, so whenever I drive into Philly she asks me to stop in at Fresh Gulf and pick up a fried fish plate for her. She's tried the whiting and flounder and liked both. $10 gets you a massive serving of fried fish with two sides. She was happy with the cole slaw and potato salad, but didn't like the hush puppies as much (said they were undercooked). Overall a lot of bang for the bucks. read more

A divey place that serves great seafood in South Philly. This hole in a wall is close to my gym, so I usually stop in here to get some high protein seafood kebobs before my work out. I've never tried any of the other items because I'm trying to avoid fry food, but the grilled items are fabulous. Ooooh y'all know I love me a tasty spot tucked off into the cut. I had a hankerin' for some crab legs, and while I'd normally head for Chickie's and Pete's when in South Philly, I really wanted some good ol' melted butter and garlic, mounds of potatoes, steamed broccoli and the succulence of freshly steamed and seasoned crab legs and shrimp. Thank the Yelp for this joint rightchea. It did not even disappoint. Bare bones store front--there are 'bout three dining tables inside and a couple of stools, but most folks call ahead with their pickup orders. Not I said the blackbird! Sidled myself right into a booth, bibbed myself up with a napkin and went. to. werk. Some have called it divey or a hole in the wall but those are just the sorts of places I j'adore the most. Service is expedient and perfunctory. The lovely quiet ladies helming the joint are exceedingly kind, quick and gracious. Prices are quite reasonable considering the amount of food and its quality and freshness. But that food though ... Bountiful, fresh and duh-licious. My Dungeness and steamed shrimp came in a ginormous aluminum platter with fresh potatoes, broccoli and corn on the cob--everything seasoned to perfection at just the right temperature. I'm not in the territory often, but I can happily say it's worth the diversion. read more

I ordered the shrimp platter off of Uber eats along with the flounder fish sandwich. The shrimp came over cooked with absolutely no seasoning on it at all, the fish was also under seasoned as well the corn I had as a side had plenty of old bay or crab seasoning on it so I know they could have seasoned my fish and shrimp if they really wanted to. read more

Small, but quaint. Only two seating booths and a bar stool seating. I ordered the snow crab and shrimp steamed special for about $21. It's a good portion for two people and it comes with potatoes, broccoli, and one corn. The seasoning isn't too overpowering, and there's a nice bed of butter at the bottom of the tray to soak the seafood while you eat. They also sell small snacks and chips. Great fresh seafood! The Shrimp Platter is my favorite! Very friendly services. Prices are good as well. I was craving for some steam seafood in garlic buttery sauce and found this place on yelp and decide to give it a try . Upon walking in I was taken care off right away. I decided to get steam platter 1 which is the snow crabs with shrimps and my boyfriend got the steam platter 2 with dungeoness crabs and shrimps . I was so excited to get home and eat it. I feel that the portion is good for two person if you're not that hungry but if you're hungry it's only for one person. Prices is a little cheaper than ons and son but I think the crabs are small . I ordered the flounder fish platter and I'm pleased to say the portions were generous and the price was reasonable. The fish tasted extra fresh like it jumped out the water & into the fryer. And contrary to what the other reviewer stated, it's NOT a hole in the wall! When you walk in it not only looks clean, but it smells clean. You can't even smell the food cooking. There is nothing negative about the store and I look forward to trying it again. I ordered the Whiting Fish sandwich, fries and coleslaw. Sadly, I was disappointed with this meal. The fish was overcooked, dry and didn't taste fresh at all. I suspect the fish was frozen. The fish also lacked any type of seasoning. The fries were bad too. No seasoning and they tasted old/stale. They definitely weren't fresh either. How do you mess up fries? The coleslaw was warm (yes warm), which gave me pause. I tasted a bit and threw it out immediately. The warm temperature and bland flavor did it for me. I also didn't want to get sick. I will not be back for another meal at this establishment. I'm honestly shocked at the 4 star rating for this place. In my opinion, it's barely 2 stars. read more

This is when I feel like yelp really let's me down. I blame myself for actually eating there once I pulled up. However I try to not judge a book by its cover. This place is great! It's def a hole in the wall and when you walk in it doesn't look like there is much, but they have a pretty extensive seafood menu and it's fresh to order. Perfectly cooked shrimp, you can't beat this is. I've gotten a couple different steam trays, but the shrimp tray is the best. I also get the lobster tail & shrimp tray, but the lobster tail can be overcooked and dry sometimes. read more

I was looking for place to grab a late bite, ordered pick-up and caught them right before they were closing. When I got there, the location wasn't exactly what I was expecting, hole-in-the-wall mini plaza spot, but when I got home and tried the fried fish po-boy... WoW. I grew-up outside of Boston and for some reason it reminded me of food growing up. I couldn't think of why at first, but when I thought about it, I realized it was the taste of really fresh fish! It's always a nice feeling to try a new spot and have it surprise you by reminding you what you've been missing. Lots of parking, they take cash or card, reasonable prices. Only open Thurs-Saturday. Definitely recommend!

first time in this place & I have to admit its pretty damn good. The crab cake has 100% crab meat in then (no fillers) & are one of the best items on the menu. Good portion they give you when you order the scallop platter. Over all I give this place an A+ . Plus the cashiers is Hot. read more
