The market is not huge,…read morethey have an outdoor part selling some plants and herbs in pots, and inside there's a great assortment of fresh herbs, vegetables, some fruits, beans, eggs, pastries, honey and jam. The market is obviously popular as there were many customers during my visit. I found some fruits are more expensive but most vegetables are reasonably priced. Since it's not far away from home, I'll always come back for its organic produce.

Every Saturday at the Etobicoke Civic Centre there is a small but wonderful farmers market. I've…read morebeen going there every weekend this summer and I've developed great relationships with actual farmers and enjoyed the fresh Ontario harvest. Like most farmers market recently, there are some resellers here. I would say there's only 2 stalls here that are 100% resellers and have no idea how food gets to their hands. There are probably 4 other stalls that sell repackaged vegetables and half their crops. From my experience, there are 4 real farmers that are phenomenal. My favourite vegetable stall that is owned by an actual farmer is against the southern part of the lot and right beside the chicken/egg farmer. He specializes in leafy vegetables and the occasional root vegetable. I love his baby spinach. It's ridiculously fresh (the spinach still has the damp earth on it from being picked the day before). I normally hate spinach but I found this spinach to be tender and almost sweet in taste. It didnt have that awful bitter taste or that awful rough film on left on your teeth. I guess only old spinach does that. Their Boston lettuce is HUGE and actually flavourful. They also sell rainbow beets in the spring and early summer. When roasted, it's nearly candy sweet and it has that really neat zebra stripe orange and white appearance. There is a fruit only farmer closest to the corner of East Mall and Burnhamthorpe. She specializes in stone fruit and her peaches are so sweet and juicy. She pretty much sells seasonal tree fruits. I've bought pears, plums, nectarines, and peach from her. Each time I'm amazed how much better they are compared to the stores. Its so much juicier. Another fruit only farmer is right in front of the deli truck and in the centre aisle. I really love this one as I've bought strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, nectarine and tons of apples... pretty much any and all fruits here. I love this vendor because they're so personable. If you're not sure, they even let you try the fruit before buying. Often they have specials and they'll be the cheapest than any other farmer (and sometimes even much cheaper than supermarket). Once in a while they'll have something unusual and it's great to see. They have fresh walnuts (even with the natural shell), quince, gooseberries, and chestnuts. There's also a little deli truck outside the library steps and it's manned by a cute Eastern Euro couple and they smoke and cure everything themselves. Their pancetta is perfect and so is their bacon. An honourable mention goes to one of the resellers actually... though they are not farmers, their prices and vegetable offering are better than supermarket. It's just as fresh as any other farmer stall but their prices are more inline with supermarket prices. They also are super generous with their sizes and they always remember me. Their service is always warm and friendly. I really love this place and I'll continue to come back to support the Ontario farmers. Though it is not the cheapest option, my tastebuds love it!

August 24, 2024 - My aunt was visiting us, so I decided to take her to Judy's Farm to get some…read morevegetables and peppers. She really loves eating hot peppers with her dinner. When we arrived the first thing my mom saw was a plant that was potted in the front. She said it looked like a plant called Dasheen, she was ready to ask if it was for sale LOL! Dasheen is kinda like spinach! It's taste so good when cooked with white belly shrimp. We picked up quite a few veggies (hot peppers, corn, kale, tomatoes, eggplant and cabbage). So soon as we got home we boiled the corn and added some paprika on it. It was so sweet, it didn't need butter! I would say the hot peppers were more on the mild side. But I did eat one that super hot. Hopefully next time we go we'll pick our own vegetables.

As a supporter of The Stop, I'm familiar with the organization and not surprised that this place is…read moreclose to a kind of market utopia. "Bobos in paradise" for a good cause. Bright young people trawlin' the stalls and tasting treats in between shopping for veg. Young families with their kids frolicking about in the gardens and playgrounds. Old hippies telling stories and advocating for their causes. Beautiful dogs running around and enjoying some reasonably priced artisanal dog treats. ...I may have just made up that part about the dog treats, but this probably does or will exist here. There is a great balance of vendors, ranging from the esoteric (e.g. Kiriki Press DIY embroidery doll kits) to the absolutely delicious (e.g. ChocoSol's Southern Mexican inspired drinking chocolate: Xocolatl). And psst: although The Stop's Farmers' market takes place every Saturday, the Barns Art Market only happens one Saturday a month from May to October (with a special holiday market in December). If you visit the barns on these particular days you will get to enjoy a delightful double market! Can't Stop Won't Stop!

No gluten-free hot spots, however. My favourite place to get a large amount of green/yellow/purple beans for $4.50 is here (they are/were also at the Dufferin Grove Farmer's Market on Tuesdays). I have a new favourite spot to pick up round, light purple and white "Sicilian" eggplants. Not to be confused with the thicker-skinned dark purple "Italian" eggplants. There's one place with doughnuts made with coconut oil. I've been tempted to try them ($5/dozen), but since when can doughnuts be "good" for us. Also, I stood there watching the little doughnuts float to the top... and found my body picking up the smell. I will definitely be back here... I'm a farmer's marketophile, a sucker for organic good, and getting as close as I can to food sources.

I really enjoy my experience at Stiver Mill Farmers' Market…read more Happens every Sundays from end of June to Mid October and held in the newly rebuilt, restored and renovated to it's original, Stiver Mill in Main Street Unionville. Though is smallish compares to others, most vendors here are from the area and really friendly! If you go around 3:30 pm, a lot of the vendors even offers end of day sale! And of course, after shopping there is the business area on Main St and Toogood Pond where you can enjoy the rest of the afternoon!

Thankfully during an…read moreearly morning stroll along Unionville Main Street for a frappucino and some Pokemon Go adventures, hubby and I stumbled upon the market. There are vendors for fresh gluten-reduced peach and blueberry pies, COBS bread, organic honey, gorgeous floral arrangements, organic skincare products, assorted deli sausages and cheeses, hot dogs and hamburgers for nibbling on while you peruse the stalls, and of course fresh fruit and vegetable stalls. We picked up a basketful of rainbow-coloured carrots, tomatoes, beans, eggplant, zucchini, and peppers for $5.99. This is a great time of year to pick up peaches and blueberries at the peak of freshness. Everything is fresh and the vendors are friendly and happy to talk about their products. The market is open Sundays from May to October, 10am to 4pm.

York Farmers Market got extra points for being an indoor market that opens year round and from Thu to Sunday. I never get to visit any of those farmer markets that only opens Saturdays. You can find butchers, fresh vegetables, tea shops, maple syrups, cheese and baked goods. Nothing compare to St. Lawrence Market but it doesn't have that touristy feel to it. I hope York Farmers Market will be around for another 50 years... but I won't be surprise next time when I drive by, it will be torn down to make way for more condos...

Oooooh-Emmmmm-Geeeeee!!! Sooooooo happy is me!…read more On my way home from work this morning I stopped by the market and now I'm absolutely on a sensory high!!! Some of the stands aren't actually from farms (from what I hear) but just people that buy large quantities of produce and go to market to sell it. I didn't buy anything from those guys. I DID, however, buy from a bunch of different families/farmers. It was so wicked cool! I was really overwhelmed by the size of the setup and the number of stands. I most appreciated the guys that offered samples of their fruits and veggies. In fact, I wound up just saying "yes" to buying everything they fed me as I took each euphoric bite. I'm not gonna lie... not all of the vendors are very friendly. I actually felt that the majority were not so. That was a bit of a letdown. But I spent enough time passing through the lanes and chatting with a handful of people that I still had a warm and welcoming experience. The market is open Friday and Sunday from about 7 or 8 am until about 4 or whenever they pack up and will run to October. I know where I will be doing my shopping for the next couple of months!
