Then purchased two field cucumbers and a red onion from another vendor for $4.00. Lastly, I stopped at another vendor as I was looking for some heirloom tomatoes. She had the good ones at the back and all the gross mushy ones at the front. I politely said that they were a little too soft for the dish I was planning on making. She said that there supposed to be like that. Seriously, tomatoes are supposed to be consumed half rotten? I ended up buying some salad tomatoes from her for $4.00 or $5.00 ... can't remember. Fast forward to the next day: all the beets shrunk and got mushy so I threw away my $4.00. I made a Greek salad with the remaining ingredients. Cucumbers tasted like No Frills, tomatoes were nothing special (Farm Boy far superior) but the onion was delicious. I will go back as the green beans, peaches and celery root looked really good but, sorry to say, Farm Boy has fresher organic and non-organic produce at better prices.

I had parked across from East Lynn Park to attend a couple of businesses as part of a work event. When we walked from an escape room to a cafe, we walked past the park and I noticed tents being set up. This activity was taking place at around 2:30 pm. My colleagues and I had spent nearly 2.5 hours at this cafe. When we all disbanded, I headed back to my car and cut through this park. I found out that it has a farmers' market every Thursday from 3 - 7 pm. I was extremely happy! I got momos from Napalese Momo. Staff had already made them in advance and simply needed to steam them. I was advised that it would take four minutes. I got a mixed assortment of momos and they were delicious. The hot sauce is like a four-alarm fire in your mouth. You have been warned! Jiggy Popz is there every other week. I managed to get handcrafted popsicles made with natural ingredients. I had the sweet cherry immediately and it was divine. The man who makes them with his partner said that it is work to take the stems and pits out, before pureeing them. I can imagine, which is why it was my first choice. I also had Jann Arden's song, Cherry Popsicle, in my head as I enjoyed this popsicle in my car. I polished off my last one, the pineapple. They make yummy popsicles. I noticed that Stock and Trade was next to Napalese Momo. I picked up the best chicken stock from this store a few months ago. It was offering some yummy sandwiches. It's is a local butcher shop, but it makes fantastic sandwiches. I wanted one, but the momos had won me over. Next time! I love an unexpected find. I definitely want to check out the rest of the vendors next time. I look forward to returning on Thursdays specifically for the farmers' market. (301)

This year the vendors are all down at the bottom of the hill - completely invisible from the danforth. In the old location there was plenty of space so you could quickly peruse the goods, make some purchases and hop back on the bike. Now you've got to walk a gantlet that is chalk-a-block with people who want to give you balloon animals, etc. I think it's great that the market is a community hub, but if it's not going to be first and foremost a market, it's not going to attract farmers. Why is DECA (a very worthy community group) occupying the stall nearest to the danforth while the only vendor who is selling actual produce has the very last stall at the far end of the park? I hope this market will return to its former glory.

I found 60aileen through the Schomberg community Facebook page and I am so grateful. Matt and Amanda are the sweetest couple and it is a joy to buy fresh veggies from their farm stand. So far I have bought the incredible lettuce I mentioned above- this is not the bland tasteless lettuce you buy at the grocery store - as well as amazing cabbage, carrots, green beans, broccoli, celery, onions, garlic, zucchini, potatoes, tomatoes, and today... corn! Yes, I am that excited about corn. Farm fresh corn. The food of summer! It's awesome and innovative that they created a web site so you can preorder what they currently have in stock. Because they carry veggies from other local farmers it is literally like a farmers market 5 days a week! It's an amazing experience to drive up to the farm stand past fields of carrots and onions etc. I am not only a fan, but I have been bring veggies to neighbours and friends to get them hooked too. If you happen to go during harvest time I have been warned to prepare to drive slow behind tractors and other farm vehicles, which actually sounds like a fun experience for this city girl who is blissfully happy in the suburbs bordering farm lands!
