Make sure you call first and find out if the delivery is in route of your home address before you purchase. I purchased a great deal on Groupon and never got a confirmation after 5 to 7 business days from Fresno Bee. Getting a straight answer from customer service was nearly impossible both on email and over the phone. Finally, someone told me my subscription was never activated because there was no route in my neighborhood and I was advised to wait up to an additional several more weeks. I ended up reaching out to Groupon requesting a refund which they (Groupon) gave me after I told them how much trouble I was having with the FresnoBee. read more

I have subscribed to The Fresno Bee for at least 30 years. Because of their price increase and the paper getting smaller and smaller, I called and cancelled a couple of months ago. I got a call within a few days from a lady offering me a discount if I would continue and I declined. I continued to receive the paper and everyday I would get a robo call from some guy saying that they want to keep my business and will reduce the cost. Now, I receive a collection letter for all the papers that THEY sent me after I cancelled. What a shady company. I will be getting in touch with the BBB, as well!! read more

For the past several months delivery has gone from bad to extremely poor , and the Bee's Customer Service (if that is even what it can be called) is the worst i have ever encountered. Delivery has gone from not receiving the paper once a week to now not receiving it 2-4 times a week, EVERY week! And this is after several phone conversations with customer service and leaving "no delivery " messages on their automated sydtem every time we do not get the paper. I signed up for 3 months paid cash right then & there. The kid gave me a Receipt & all. Problem is after the 3 months they kept delivering the paper . I called the Bee's customer service on 12/10/19 to discontinue my newspaper delivery service. The customer service rep kept trying to get me to continue the Bee with either home delivery or digital service. I told them no that I just wanted my paper cancelled nd if my husband wants digital service I would call them back. On 12/31/19 they deducted $40.89 from my checking acct for Home delivery service. I called them again and I'm pretty sure I got the same rep. She said that I i had requested digital service when I called inn on the 10th. But digital service is much less than $40.89. She also said that changes were taken on 12/31/19 because I did not request to have my credit card info removed from my acct when I called I in on the 10th. So she was going to dElete my "credit card info", cancel my subscription and have refund issued which would take 7-10 business days. I asked how could they refund me if she deletes card info. She assured me it wouldn't be a problem. On 01/14/20 I emailed Bee's cUstomer service to say that I have not received my refund. They emailed me back on 01/15/20 to say theY would honor my request and stop delivery service on 01/18/20 and refund $13.99. So today I i called their customer service again. Thankfully I spoke with another rep. His system shows my subscription cancelling tomorrow. I gave him a run-down of all this. He spoke with the VIP team and is getting my $40.89 refunded. The Fresno Bee is longer your "local newspaper". It is delivered digitally to and printed in Sacramento, California. The deadline to deliver the news for the next days paper is around 4 or 5 pm. Therefore, any news occurring in the evening or at night will not be in the next day's paper; it will be in the paper two days later. For instance, any news occurring Friday evening or Friday night will not be in the printed edition of the Fresno Bee until the following Sunday. The customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. You cannot talk to local Fresno Bee personnel. You must speak with a call center in the Philippines who care only about selling you additional subscriptions. The Fresno Bee is no longer your "Local Newspaper". A shame. read more

Don't believe the Obituary deadlines they post. I have a feeling they are using East Coast time, but do not state it. For some reason they did not post my Mom's Obit. I was within the specified window, but they never posted it. They also have super narrow columns so only about 5 words appear in Each line. They charge by line $9.95, so the price is outrageous. Then they charge ~$150 for the second column plus $9.95 per line. I deleted my order after 2 days of not being published since it was the day of the viewing. They also did not contact me to explain why they didn't publish it. I will need to monitor my credit card to make sure they didn't charge me anything. Subscription was supposed to start on a Wednesday for home delivery. Called everyday and was ensured that I would get a paper the next day. Six days later with no papers being deliveried I call to cancel. On hold for 10'minutes and then transferred to another department to cancel and now it has been another 20 minutes and still on hold as I write this review. And the rating of 1 star is too high, if I had the option it would be a 0 star rating. No one at their company took ownership of the issue and worked on correcting the problem. read more

I cancelled my subscription today after 30 years living in the Woodward Park area & being a loyal subscriber since I moved into this area. They just raised my monthly to $68+ (7 days a week) without notice and i am tired of having to negotiate this whenever they do this (look at their introductory rates and how they treat new subscribers vs. longtime loyal subscribers). This newspaper is now 1-2 days late on news, so it is not going to be a big loss. Unfortunate where this publication is today. I have been so aggravated with The Bee that we let our subscription lapse. However I like access to local news. I have been waiting for a good offer before resubscribing. I got a good email offer. When I called to ask if that offer could be extended for a longer time, I spent 19 minutes dealing with a representative who is lacking in communication/English skills. The connection was horrible and it was very frustrating. The Bees problems in staying relevant are widely known, at the minimum when customers are trying to give you money can we please speak to competent employees? I am the only one in my family of four that reads the Bee and am definitely in the minority with our peer group. I finally break down and resubscribe and am left feeling like I should have just skipped it. The $9.99 "activation fee" was an added insult. I also asked if I could get an email of my receipt to check that she and I were actually in agreement on what had transpired and was told no, I could just check it on my next credit card statement. If The Bee wants readers/numbers to justify advertisers, there are some simple steps to take. #1 take care of your subscribers. read more

As noted in previous reviews - it is the subscription issue that should keep one away. Having utilized their online, discount offer - my credit card was charged (they still assert it was not - despite the receipt), and multiple calls, e-mails...failed to ever successfully provide newspapers. In total over 3 hours of lost work time spent on phone and computer to attempt to resolve. Finally a BBB complaint filed - their response - not accurate. If you want a local paper - buy it at the store DO NOT interact with the subscription dept. First off, most of the stories/news topics doesn't even interest me.. But I like to read on my spare time, but to put a limit on how much visits a person can have during a calendar month SUCKS... They want u to prescribe to their service just to read a couple of interesting article per month, NO THANKS!! The Fresno Bee is a rip-off. They kept sending solicitation offers thru my email. I finally decided to subscribe to their 26 weeks for 37.90 plus a 10.00 fee for a total of 47.90. I called them several times to ask about my delivery starting date. First they told me they never received payment. No record of my subcription. I informed them i checked my bank account and it showed the amount was taken from account and cleared. I called again. Was told i would receive the paper in a 3 days. Then i was told " sorry" we don't have a route in your area. Then was told again there's no record of my payment and if i wanted reimbursement i would have to send proof that they took my payment and that it had cleared. When i finally got reimbursed it was the partial payment and not the 10.00 dollar fee. Do not take advantage of their so called "great deals". They will scam you. read more

I lived in Fresno for over 30 years and continued to subscribe to the Bee when everyone else I knew dropped them. I moved from California almost a year ago. Called to discontinue the paper " when the subscription ran out" since I had already paid ahead. I have received no less than 100 phone calls about "renewing"". I told them I was not interested in the printed version but I continued to take the online subscription. I have talked to numerous people representing the Bee and the last person hardly spoke English and could not comprehend what I was telling her. I DO NOT want the print subscription. If the phone calls continue I will stop the online one too. Today I received a bill for the printed subscription forwarded from the Fresno Post office labeled Past due. It's 8:30AM Labor Day morning, and why am I surprised that my paper was not delivered!? It's not easy to report a missing paper, either. The customer service on their website is A) difficult to navigate, and B) contains minimal information about the details of my subscription. I called the customer service phone line - no person, just a recording that says due to a production error, today's delivery will be delayed. How long? Who knows. All this UN-exceptional service, and I just paid a whopping $143.17 for Sat-Sun+eEdition subscription renewal for 6-months. Just spent an hour retrieving log in info for this place to leave the review. Debbie just called to threaten me with collections. I explained that I was confused since I haven't gotten a bill but did get a call last week that a balance was due. I had asked that person to send a bill out but hadn't gotten one. She said she sent three. I asked her to what address they were sent because I hadn't received anything and am pretty meticulous about my bills. She just got really rude and flippant and said I was tall money out of the delivery people's pocket by not paying. I told her I had no problem paying but didn't understand why I hadn't received a bill. She repeated she sent me three. I told her I would call customer service and pay. I hung up went through my office to find nothing related a bill from the bee. I tried to log into the website to pay the balance and it wouldn't let me. I called the number to pay and the system couldn't recognize my voice commands. I called Debbie back and stated my concern to which she then replied that she believed me because many people have been saying the same thing. I asked her if she thought it was okay to threaten people with collections when she knows there is a billing problem to which she became very rude then started to say she wasn't gonna argue with me that I received the three bills and oils go to collections. Um....... Yeah needless to say after about 20 years of getting The Bee delivered either to my classroom, job or home I will NEVER give this paper another penny. After reading a few posts here looks like The Fresno Bee is known for doing what they are doing to me. Madera High School was selling the weekend subscription for a year. I dont read the newspaper since you get all the news you need online. I also didnt want the highschool kid to be dissapointed since he was selling the bee to go to Disneyland n he said he had never been too (and I also have kids that one day will go to highschool). So, I decided to buy a subscription. I was told once the subscription year was over I would stop getting the newspaper. Well today I got a bill for $12.32 for an unpaid subscription. Well I called the fresno bee costumer service and was told they had send me notices to cancel my subscription. I dont remember seen anything from The Bee and since the newspaper stopped been deliver I assumed the year was over. Well I was told that I need to pay that money since I didnt call to cancel. I would never ever buy the fresno bee again. Am sorry for the highschool students that have to sell subscriptions and people like me that will never buy from them again. Am waiting for a call from the fresno bee they said someone will call me to try to resolve this. We will see what they say althought for what I had read looks like am going to have to pay this money. Be careful of subscriptions from the Fresno Bee and read the fine print of the subscription. My renewal came up and I just never sent back the renewal because I'm frankly done with this paper. The renewal costs were outrageous especially from being a long time subscriber. You would think there might be a discount for long time subscribers to keep there circulation going. BUT, I kept getting the paper and didn't think much of it, its Fresno Bee's problem if they keep sending it right? NOPE, three months later I get a bill saying I owe for the papers I received. Called the number on the bill and customer service was less than helpful, their response was basically you received the paper and you didn't call so you have to pay. Customer service explained there is a "grace period" of 90 days that they will extend the subscription. Now most people think grace period, you're not getting charged. NOPE, not the case if you are done with it. Its pretty underhanded but I will admit I didn't read all the fine print. Finally negotiated the price to half the amount after I stated numerous times I didn't authorize the renewal and I wasn't paying the full price they were charging. Customer service said it would reflect on the account and I could pay online if I chose. Three days later the price is still the same, so had to call to go thru the whole process again, this time just paid the portion on the phone to be done with it. AND Fresno Bee is still delivering the paper four days after I went thru the first call. Sorry this is long but I wanted to get the point across to read all the fine print with this subscription and be very clear of their underhanded tactics regarding subscriptions. The paper has frankly gone down hill and is not worth the outrageous price for the subscription. I will never subscribe to this paper again, lost a subscriber of 15 years for good. read more
