Fresno Flats, Oakhurst: 2025 Dec 20 (5 of 5) Community Holiday Fair & Market In the little town of Oakhurst, where people are few but hearts are big, I noticed the folks here try and support each other in the little things they do. Today, a community holiday fair was held at Fresno Flats. I joined the lucky folks and did a walk-about. Holiday music fills the air on this gorgeous morning, while animals made their debut. I made friends with a couple of goats - actually, it was mama and her kid. As her kid nuzzled up to visitors and chewed on some treats, mama stood guard. I even managed to pet the kid and persuade it to eat out of my hand. Present were two food trucks. Chef Yuji and his lovely wife, Veronique are known to everyone in this little town. Their food truck emblazoned with Matsumoto Samurai's Kitchen parked in its usual spot, offering several Japanese delights to choose from. Their sushi is always fresh and delicious. The chefs take pride in what they serve. Of course, I couldn't walk away without getting my favourite. Poki Bowl: fresh tuna and salmon over sushi rice and two sides. I stopped by a stall manned by Stacy (she gave me permission to take her photo and post it on social media). Stacy said she makes all the natural products herself: soaps, candles, lip gloss, etc. The items looked clean and well packaged. I think they're perfect as stocking stuffers, or just a sweet gift to someone special. It looks like everyone there was having a lovely time: children dressed up and playing in the park, while adults chatted under the tent. There were folks in period costumes handing out candy canes, even Santa was on hand to 'ho-ho-ho' his way. Overall, this is a lovely place to spend a few hours. read more

We had a wonderful time at the museum's ribbon cutting this past Friday. It was a great event and Emmalyne (sp?) gave us such a great tour of one of the houses on the site. She was so eloquent and knowledgeable, and you really can feel she loves this place and its history. Good job to all! A must-see place with kids as well. read more

We spent Memorial Day here ! We absolutely loved being there did a tour learned some history and had an amazing tour guide! There's large picnic tables lights for the night time, a dusty dance floor on the ground. It's made a great family/friend adventure. read more

This place has amazing history. I didn't even know they had this little museum until we went exploring. I loved how enthusiastic the man was sharing the history of the town with us. I loved that the worker makes greeting cards from old photos and adds quotes to them. We took some photos in the jail and outside. This place is a gem and everyone that visits Oakhurst should stop by. read more

This is a really fun family friendly little stop in Oakhurst. The jail and the print shop are very cute. They have little buzzers all throughout to read to you about the history of the buildings. It's super cool to hear about the lives of people from so long ago with their homes still standing after more than 100yr. The staff here is friendly and engaged for questions. The old building are decked out to look like if they were still in use. It's crazy to see the sort of things that people built so long ago still able to hold up. It can be a little hard to find it, but there is parking in front for ~8cars and Google maps has it accurately, so hope that helps. Tl;DR: Great historic park. Bring the little ones. read more

The museum/buildings were closed on the day of our visit. It was drizzly, not quit rain. There was an "artisan market" at the park instead that had seemed to have nothing connected to the historical park. The family and I kind of felt out of place as I wanted to see the the exhibits. No docent working that day. We could peer into the windows and see some of the stuff inside. It looked like a worthy place to visit. Maybe I'll try it again when there is no "artisan market". read more

I always have a great time here. And learn something new each time I go back. I like it so much I take people I know will enjoy it. The on site docent is so nice and she is full of knowledge and is very giving with her time. The other docents are nice as well. Especially one male that unfortunetly I am drawing a blank with his name at the moment ( I feel bad). He was very nice and took time out of what he was doing to show and tell things to me my mother and my son. Im looking forward to hopefully staying in the airbnb in the near future. read more

We were fortunate to meet up with Laura who is a caretaker of the site and received an informative and fun history lesson of the people and events of the area. The buildings are filled with everyday objects used by people over 100 years ago to 1970s when the last owners moved out. Laura made the tour for us. She has a wonderful sense of humor and open to new information that guests may contribute to the history of the period. There are many buildings in this location and when unlocked for you are taken back to another time and place. We couldn't find a posting as to when the care taker (s) is available but happily our timing was good. read more

We stopped by to see some history, knowing it was closed. Not much to do with Yosemite closed. After walking around some looking thru the windows, Laura. the caretaker. stopped to talk with us and see if we had some questions. What came next was a two hour custom tour with inside knowledge that brought the whole place to life. I feel like I now have a good feeling of the area and what took place. We had a great time learning about the history of Fresno Flats (now Oakhurst) and the Larimore and Taylor families. It's a free, self-guided, but when we arrived (Thursday morning) the site caretaker was gracious enough to give us a personal, guided tour. Apparently, not many people know about the site - even the locals. If you're a local, history buff, this is a must see. read more

It was a little difficult to find - may need a bigger sign out front or directions on their website. However, once found, Mike, the docent gave us a personal tour of all the buildings and site. He is very passionate about history, knowledgeable, and very engaging about Fresno Flats in particular. He showed us all the special offerings of each building, pointing out things of an unusual nature. Interesting and worth a short stop. I agree with another poster, leave a donation to help continue the museum's future. read more

My son and I stopped simply to see the historic marker and we found this gem. The volunteer workers were so kind and knowledgeable. They showed my son all kinds of interesting pioneering tools, homes and historic relics. Very nice place, glad history is being preserved! read more

Wow what a great location to host an event like a wedding, birthday or in my case a celebration of life. They have a sound system, lots of Costco tables and chairs, refrigerators and even a full kitchen. The caretakers Bill and Laura are great and very helpful. The location has lots of fully restored buildings from the 1800s. 2 log cabins, a Victorian house, 2 schoolhouses fa printing press, a blacksmith shop and an old jail. We now live in the Bay Area and we could not find a site as wonderful as this anywhere around us. I highly recommend this site and they are very reasonable as well. I have to add to this post and talk about Heritage days at Fresno Flats (in September ). During the day there is a parade and all of the historic buildings are open. Each building has a ton of historical memorabilia . At night they had a Chuck wagon dinner with tri-tip and cobbler made in a cast iron pan. And a band with live music! Like my husband said "it was like being in a movie about a celebration in a small town". read more
