We debated on going because we were arriving 30 mins before close, which I hate doing because that's when everyone is trying to clean up and get their side work done. We saw there were a few table so we decided to try it with the intention to be quick. Boy am I glad we did! Started with the sunrise juice, a carrot juice blend and the homemade strawberry lemonade both were so fresh and delicious. We tried the brown sugar and cinnamon pop tart and that was heaven in my mouth. So much flavor and goodness. I ordered the limoncello French toast and it is a slice of fresh baked lemon bread made into French toast. The flavors were rich and the texture was fluffy. A must try while it's in season. Others got the turkey and avocado Benedict and the pancakes with eggs and bacon. All cooked to perfection. Our server Jess was so nice and we did tip her well for being so last minute, but to our credit we were out of there at 6 mins after closing while everyone was still working to close up. The food here is just delicious. Even the things that I try here that are out of mu comfort zone end up being tasty! If you like coffee be sure to try the Honeybee (hot or iced)! Service is usually stellar and the location is fairly convenient with lots of parking (in the back too!) My only complaint is that my friend I go to the restaurant with who is in a wheelchair due to mobility issues has to park in back and roll all the way around the building. Its fine on a nice day, but sucks if its extra warm or super cold. I know this isnt the fault of the restaurant, but the building owners . The ambiqnce is fine, if its busy it get a little louder than I'd like. Maybe some strategically placed sound dampening tiles? I get the industrial look, but with the concrete floors, its a bit of an echo chandler when itw busy. read more

Walked in and the place was packed. Was told it would be an hour wait, but I do not think we were even waiting 10 minutes before we were sat down. This restaurant is in the old Crescent Chevrolet building as someone who spent a lot of time here as a kid it was really cool to see what changes have been made. The menu is a lot. Trying to understand how to read the gluten free/vegan menu was slightly disconcerting as well. Also if you cannot eat oats as someone needing to be gluten free do NOT order the gluten free bread. As someone who is also allergic to oats like about 50% of the gluten free community this greatly disappointed me because it majorly cut down on what I could eat off the menu. The sunrise juice was made mostly with carrots. I could barely taste the pineapple or apple. I could not taste the ginger at all. My mom ordered the salsa Verde pork & egg which I will be ordering next time. That was so flavorful and delicious. The gluten free friendly short stack comes with 3 pancakes. And tasted a bit of flour but were very tasty. And I ordered gimme the meats omelet without gravy, cheese, or English muffin. Wow! I love this sweet spot! Before our road trip back to Chicago, we stopped for an early breakfast. It was so much better than we could have imagined. Located in a small business complex. We walked in to a bright and cheerful room that was so lovely. Kindness messages were all around. Our server was so pleasant and sweet. She was patient and helpful. The menu is so diverse and interesting. I wanted something sweet so I chose the croissant French toast. My friend enjoyed a savory Mexican dish. The were both delicious. The orange juice was fresh squeezed, the latte was tasty and my simple black coffee was rich and balanced perfectly. When we arrived we were told it would be a 25 min wait which was ok for a weekend but after only 2 minutes we were texted that our table was ready. The waitress was great quick at getting our order and even apologized that my juice was taking a few extra minutes which I appreciated. She brought our coffee cake pretty quick and it was amazing. With a nice sauce, it was even served warm so delicious. My eggs Benedict was great with turkey and avocado. My husband got the all meat omelet and loved it as well. Excited to have a big chunk of our team in one place, my colleagues and I planned a team breakfast the morning after our event. We had about a dozen people and despite having a fairly full restaurant for a weekday morning, they seemed able to accommodate us just fine. Our server was very friendly, patient, and took great care of us. Everyone seemed happy with their beverages and food. I opted for an iced honey bee with oat milk and an "it takes the cake" breakfast. No complaints, but nothing special either. We had a little bit of everything on the table. We visited the West Des Moines location of Home Grown on a Sunday and were so impressed that we made it a point to visit their downtown Des Moines location the very next day--and it was just as outstanding! On day one, I had the chilaquiles with an English muffin on the side with some tasty jam and a mocha coffee--all delicious! My partner ordered the Iron Man omelet with a side of breakfast potatoes, and I have to say, those potatoes were cooked perfectly--crispy outside, tender inside, and seasoned just right. The next morning, we continued the experience downtown. I sipped on the refreshing Sunrise juice and enjoyed the traditional eggs Benedict (minus the bacon), while my partner had The Honey Bee latte and avocado toast with over medium eggs. We split a plate of buttermilk pancakes, and every bite was a delight. From the fast and friendly service at both locations, to the lively yet relaxed vibe, to the impeccable food coming out of the kitchen--everything was truly perfect. Home Grown has officially won us over. It's not just a restaurant we love--it's one of the reasons we're excited to move to Des Moines. We thought this was a chain that we go to in Seattle but it seems not to be related. It was a nice brunch place that we walked to from the downtown hotel we were staying it. It had nice outdoor seating that no one else was using (the waitress commented that people in the area don't seem to like to sit outside, but we were loving it on an unusually warm fall day). The food was all as expected and good. The serving size of the potato side was disappointingly small and it was cold. The best place in Des Moines! There's parking in the front and the back. There's clean bathrooms in the building for all folx. The service here was quick and friendly. Everything I had was lovely. There was a seasonal grilled cheese on a sign on the table and I was sold. It was yummy cheesy with a creamy tomato soup on great bread and it reeeeeaaally hit the spot. Maybe this was the best tomato soup I've ever had even! It also came with a half pickle. This was everything that I ever wanted delivered to me on a plate. I also got a side of cheesy grits because I LOVE grits and it was delicious to have that with the soup too. I didn't end up finishing the sandwich and it was still great as a leftover for dinner too. I can't believe this place, wow! The food was as best as brunch as we have had. From the Tea, omelette, fruits, coffee cake, and avocado toast we were truly blown away. The service was amazing and that was truly the icing on the cake for me. Side note, they were BUSY at noon on a Saturday (or course) but if you can slide into a spot at the bar, highly recommend. Just arrived DSM from San Antonio and headed here for a quick late brunch. Seated almost immediately. Staff was friendly; waiter was very nice and made suggestions ~ I actually took his first recommendation which was the Salsa Verde Pork ~ he noted there were plenty of favorites, but his fave was the SV Pork. I didn't need him to go any further. I also ordered a pop'd heart (homemade pastry same size as an original pop tart) and a coffee. The coffee and pastry arrived almost instantly. I was surprised at the quick turnaround. Not much of a coffee connoisseur, but he warned me the coffee was just put in the carafe and to be cautious. The pastry was also warm. I waited for both to cool off for a bit (not very long, maybe 30-45 seconds) and added my cream and sugar and cautiously put the spoon to my lips to test for heat. I was really surprised when it was pretty much just warm. No biggie, though. Like I mentioned ~ not a coffee connoisseur. My husband would've asked for a fresh pot. He left the carafe and also a glass milk container with water. Water was pretty cool. I decided to try the pastry and was a little underwhelmed. I've had some amazing fresh pop tarts in Annapolis at the Iron Rooster. No comparison. But it was tasty, although a bit too sweet. Didn't stop me from having half of it. The Salsa Verde Pork arrived just a few minutes later. Another pleasant surprise. Waiter asked if I wanted some hot sauce and I chose the Cholula before he could continue with his list. The Salsa Verde Pork was DELICIOUS. I would've maybe added a little more cilantro and maybe served with a corn tortilla to sop up all the juicy, delicious, goodness created by the eggs over medium and the sauces. Waiter came around to ask if I wanted my ticket immediately so I could get on the road. He asked where I was from as I'd mentioned I was in from out of town. Told him I was headed to Ames for a Navy wrestling match v Iowa at which a tribute was being paid to my husband's late coach Reg Wicks who passed away this spring. He actually made some recommendations for places to see after I told him I was gonna head to the river walk and see how it compares to San Antonio's. We have been trying to eat here since they opened last year but the wait times have always been so crazy. Fortunately, we had some free time this morning and saw that there was no wait listed. The Food: Nutella Pop'd "Heart" and Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop'd "Heart" - their version of pop tarts but homemade. Definitely delicious and the kids will love it. 2 for $8 Red Velvet Pancakes- Special offering for now and we know our oldest will love it, so we packed it up for him. We were too full from our meals to try more than a bite. BLT-A-E Sandwich with a side of Tomato Soup- BLT with Avocado and Egg on multigrain toast. Hubby said it was one of his new fave BLTs now. He chose to do the tomato soup versus a side of kettle chips. The tomato soup was so rich and creamy with amazing flavors. So much so that I ordered a cup to take home. Salsa Verde Pork and Eggs- such a wonderful array of flavors melting into one bite. The pork was flavored well, the homemade salsa verde was on point and the cheese, potatoes and eggs complimented it all well. It will be hard for me to try another dish because I feel like I will want to order it every time I go! Our server Will was phenomenal. He was very well-versed in the menu. He gave the best recommendations and we hope to get him every time we go back. Their manager Paul was so personable and sweet.
