I found this place to be far from friendly, instead she was rude (which I'm assuming she is the owner). The food when we went was nothing to stop for, it made me wish that we just packed sandwiches. The hotdog was extremely greasy. The views were nothing spectacular... I mean it was nice but you are in the mountains... quit commercializing something you didn't make. If you are willing to make small hikes, I would find a park and hike it versus stopping here. read more

This is a great waterfall and a building alongside it perfectly positioned for you to photograph and video the beautiful piece of whitewater. The set up is first rate. Unfortunately, it hawks itself as a restaurant. Actually it sells overpriced bland food cooked by a bevy of nice ladies who have festooned the property with "thou shalt not" signs. After I concluded the chilled smoked trout was spiced with air, my wife and I walked the property (which as I've said is beautiful) only to encounter a list of rules longer than the one inmates in maximum security are subjected to. We escaped. Since there are nice waterfalls in the world where you can bring your own food and have your dogs to boot (and smoke a cigarette outdoors) I suggest you don't get imprisoned here in the first place. read more

OK, admittedly when I asked local friends about this place, they scrunched up a confused face and said 'dunno'. I have no idea what this place may have been or why the masses aren't beating down their screen door, but all that matters is what it *is*... which is totally ridiculous, unexpected and completely worth the stop. As a previous reviewer mentioned, Friendly Falls is in a lovely spot with a great opportunity to not only get a few snaps of the beautiful falls, but sit on the porch, eat, drink a cold beer (if you like, heh), and take in the surroundings. I'll warn you: you won't be expecting the food to be much, oh no...but then it's set in front of you and you take a bite...and WOW. So fresh, so simple, so delicious. Period. It's food you'd get at home - really that good. You might open one of the lunchboxes ready to season that burger or sandwich - DON'T!! Take a bite first. It may need nothing at all, as was my experience. I had lunch here every day of my weekend trip and each meal was just as good as the last. Bonus: grilled cheese on a cold day? Yes please!! What's more: the owners of this place are one of a kind. Funny, considerate and totally the backbone of what makes this place homey and special. Check out the gift shop inside, take a blanket if it's chilly and open a tattered paperback while you're relaxing on the porch. Well this place is freaking adorable! Hidden on the road, disguised as a shanty, is a quirky restaurant that has beer, a waterfall, delicious food, and chickens. Sign me up. Thank you yelpers for guiding me to this little gem near the Smokey's. The food was delicious, especially the trout plate with their home made pimento cheese! I loved the options of beer, along with a koozie to use. The view is awesome, and there is plenty of seating, either being in the outside covered area, or on a picnic table next to the waterfall. There is even a designated spot to get in the water if you want to cool off. They also have glamping on the property, and a building next to the falls to rent for weddings! I can't wait to go back and enjoy a show here, as the owner told us about an awesome Dolly Parton cover band from Brooklyn that played there not to long ago. read more

This little place is such a gem! While vacationing for a week in the Smokies I was sick and tired of chain restaurants. I was beginning to think there was no saving grace, until we discovered Friendly Falls with the help of Yelp. As soon as we arrived I just knew it was going to be great. Yes, the view of the falls is amazing and the place reminds me of being transported back in time, but the owner was awesome! She called my kids by name by the time we left and neither one of my babes wanted to go. The food, is delicious. My husband and I each had a grilled burger, and the skin on fries are tasty and seasoned excellently. The kids split a grilled cheese and chips, and devoured it instantly. While vacationing in the area we realized that coming from Chicagoland we take our ample beer choices for granted. Although the selection here isn't huge, the IPA that I had which was local, was quite tasty. I am drawn back however to the decorations. It's what I would call kitschy, but I am in love. It made me realize how I would love to own a little piece of heaven. The location is beautiful and I can't urge you enough, check it out, you won't be disappointed! One thing to keep in mind...the place is very small, so seating is limited to several tables up top, and a couple down below in the garden. I rarely find something good enough to take the time to review but this time it's because this is the type of place everyone hopes to stumble upon whether on vacation or just driving through. Tina and Clyde were such gracious hosts and were so much fun to talk to. My wife and I were on our honeymoon and drove by the place on our way to pigeon forge. We saw it as we drove by and made a mental note that it may be a fun place to stop. We stopped by that night, and all 4 nights we were there. (And a couple times during the day.) We spend too much money doing "touristy" type things and found our time better spent relaxing and having a drink and some food by the waterfall. It would be worth stopping even if the prices were double. Depending on the night, they also have live music available which definitely adds to the "fun factor." I love live music of all kinds and you won't find many places better suited to an intimate private show. Do you like to play? They also offer to let you grab a guitar and pick a little yourself. This allowed me to play a little guitar and sing to my lovely new wife and just made a lasting memory. We definitely will tell everyone we know about this place and will not allow any Tennessee visitors to drive through without stopping. read more

Called in here on the way back from Cades Cove to Sevierville. We used Yelp to help us to decide where to eat. It doesn't look fantastic from the road but as we knew the reviews were good for the food we stopped off. We had the bacon wrapped chicken tenders with jalapeños and the pulled pork sandwich. The pulled pork was delicious, not too much sauce and the perfect size. The tenders were delicious and fantastic. We sat overlooking the waterfall. The staff were very friendly. The reason why we knocked off a star was because of the noise from the road which we realise can't be helped. Also we were the only customers in there and for the whole time some dirty plates hadn't been moved out of the way on the next table. We had seen this place off the side of the road on our drive into the area, so thought we'd check it out especially after reading the reviews on here. And we are sure glad we did! The location, while mighty deceiving if just passing by, is extremely gorgeous (see pictures!). The wait staff were extremely friendly, the food was good, not terrible but not stellar either. I am giving this 4 stars total based on my experience of 5 stars for location and friendly staff. It's not often you can sit alongside a waterfall and watch a great heron fishing for his dinner. Location is beautiful and sitting by the river is great. I recommend it for that alone. The menu is sparse at best, and if anything is homemade, we didn't find it. Price is OK, but when the sides consist of kettle chips, child corn salad and heated Bush's baked beans, you get the picture. The pulled pork was palatable but nothing you can't get at Wal Mart. Didn't try anything else, but I've attached a menu so you can make up your own mind. Anyway, come for the location and not the food and you won't be disappointed. read more

The staff is extremely down to earth. We enjoyed our time spent there. The menu was short, but everything was made on the spot. I had the pulled pork with a side of beans and corn salsa. Well this was a very chill experience. Friendly Falls is a great place to stop and get a drink, while in a beautiful setting. We took seating to watch the falls and saw nature at its finest as a blue crane fished right out of them. The menu consists of light appetizers, and limited beverage offerings, but the setting was truly unique. The owner was warm and friendly and we enjoyed the environment very much.
