I had a simply wonderful experience in this store! The person who greeted me (maybe the proprietor, dunno) was maximally helpful in suggesting reasonably-priced wines that could stand up to Whit's "cuisine." I was in and out in about three minutes, which is exactly what the context called for. This being said, I was totally amazed to find a wine store of this quality on a peninsula where most wine is sold in mom-and-pop liquor stores that specialize in hard liquor and stock a few wine bottles with cute animals on the labels only for the occasional misguided soul who hasn't yet converted to Buffalo Trace. The Rockaway Park Liquor & Wine Warehouse about 1.5 miles away is a serious competitor to Ship to Shore, but the Warehouse has more labels with cute animals than I could tolerate and also had long lines for the cash registers when I visited. It was weird because the next day I went to a distributor in Greenpoint and ordered a 1/4 keg of Modelo within 5 minutes. On my second visit Adam was not available, but the wonderful customer service continued. My family was very impressed with the wines we enjoyed on Thanksgiving. I typically hate to choose wine and previously stuck with well known - and now I realize - overpriced choices. It's really nice to shop where they are eager to answer my questions and make excellent recommendations.
