I like the selections & descriptions of books throughout the bookstore. In the kitchen room, there was a glass fridge with many cold drinks to buy as well as journals, books, and merchandise around the sink & cabinet area. I was told the bookstore use to be a private residential home. My favorite part of the bookstore was the unique & funny merchandise like the stickers. But on the way, I saw a sign saying more upstairs. That's where the real stock was kept. It somehow felt like there was twice as much space on the second floor than the first. I initially stopped by to pick up the latest release from one of my favorite authors, but somehow left with two books instead. (Book lovers will understand!) I was warmly greeted when I arrived, and the welcoming atmosphere immediately made me want to linger and browse. What I appreciate most about MahoganyBooks is that it does much more than sell books. The bookstore is intentional about creating space for authors of color to be seen, celebrated, and supported. From book signings and author events to community activities and wellness-focused gatherings, it's clear that they're building community through literature and culture. After browsing the shelves, I visited the small café inside the bookstore for a smoothie before taking my new books down to the waterfront. Finding a bench by the water and reading a few pages while enjoying the beautiful views of National Harbor was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Between the thoughtfully curated book selection, welcoming atmosphere, café, and beautiful waterfront location, the experience feels like much more than a trip to a bookstore.

July 22 I reached out on their Instagram account with a Direct Message. Nothing. I've called and no one picks up and the voicemail is full. It is now July 28 and I have yet to hear a response about the four books I ordered. I am extremely disappointed, because I really wanted to support this business, but it's now been a month and a half since my order. I would be more understanding if they at would at least reply to me to let me know what's going on and were keeping me in the loop, but so far they have consistently ignored a customer. I usually come here when charging my car and it's always great to browse the books. I never had any issue with the service while buying books and I think things are decently priced here, though hard for me to compare considering I don't buy many books. One thing to note is that the coffee store is not a Starbucks so don't expect to get Starbucks treatment. I went around 6 and they refused to open a bag of beans because it was too late. I don't think opening a bag of beans would have made a difference but ends up I had to drink coffee that I didn't really want.
