Ambience (9/10)

Charming bookstore and coffee sharp with rich culture. It's vibrant aesthetic, tasty matcha, and great customer service has me excited to visit again! I enjoyed the overall vibe of the bookstore and it was amazing to see the wide variety of black authors represented throughout the store. The limited seated keeps the foot traffic flowing and contributes to the intimate community feel. There are also occasional book signings and events. I'll be back for a cook book and a chai tea latte!

In my profession, I read for a living which can tire a person out but I decided 2026 is the year of self care and decided to pick up recreational reading and what better way than with Black romance novels? I knew the authors I was seeking so walked into Mahogany with a purpose! A lovely young lady Stephanie was quick to assist me and even gave me great suggestions for other authors to check out so instead of buying one, I bought three!! The vibe was super chill with beverages available for purchase and a dope playlist- IDK how they get any work done cause I would be grooving the whole time! I definitely plan to return to purchase a book dropping in June and to see what other gems they might have available.

I wanted to support a black bookstore with my purchase of Brand's memoir, Phases. This bookstore was lovely and I received great customer service. I was happy to know that they also have a cafe on the inside.

We enjoyed our first visit to Mahogany Books on a recent trip to the area. One of the staffers greeted us as he was leaving - autistically welcoming and all smiles. I loved the availability of a coffee bar and seating area, selection of bookmarks and enamel & wooden pins, notebooks, and, of course, books! The displays are straightforward and I easily found a few selections by and about Octavia Butler (which I needed for the flight home). Prices are comparable to larger commercial bookstores. The quaint and familiar nature of Mahogany Books made the store feel comfort and inviting. Although, I did not grab a basket due to lack of space in my luggage. The cashier was also genuinely pleasant and patient as ai wavered between bookmark, wooden pins, and an enamel selection.

I attended a book signing/reading event hosted by Mahogany books and it was well worth it. I didn't know there was a location at the National Harbor. The space is bright, welcoming and also has a coffee bar. Some of the most popular books were sold out but I was happy to see the diverse book selections, apparel and accessories. The event was hosted directly across the street. It was well organized, had an efficient check-in, a DJ was there and we were able to meet the author to take pictures. The chair set up could use some work but I really enjoyed myself! I will return to support events in the future.

I attended a meet and greet for Allen Iverson at Mahogny books. If I had to guess I would say it was well over 1,000 people waiting in line to meet Iverson. This event was well organized. They were adequately staffed and communicated through out the whole event. We stood in line for about two hours but it didn't even feel like it. The communication leading up to the event was detailed and everything they said would happen did. Walking in to the book store you can see why they are named Mahogany Books. As a black woman who loves reading I was so happy to see so many black authors books on display. For us by us. If you're thinking about attending one of their events do it.

Had to check out this black owned bookstore since I was in the area after a nearby Workshop. I have taken my children a few years back to the Anacostia location prior to this location being in existence. When I say incredible....it's incredible to enter a black owned bookstore . Going down aisle after aisle looking at all the wonderful books, candles, T-shirts, bookmarks, bags we decided on the signed book "You Deserve to Be Rich" They even have specialty coffees, smoothies and drinks.....winning. My only suggestion would be to have actually Mahogany Books magnets as I collect them from all the places I travel. Will most definitely be back.

First time at this location and I was happy to be there! It's such a rich vibe there! Rich in books, intelligent and black joy! I loved picking up things for my nieces and a light read for my bestie! I'll be back!

While I stayed in National Harbor, my family and I enjoyed strolling the streets nearby. It was pretty neat coming across this bookstore. Not only was it African American books, but there were so many books that caught our eye. It was such a chill spot and they had some really good reads on historical events up to present day authors.

According to their website, they're a Black-owned, family-run independent bookstore that focuses on books written for, by, or about people of the African Diaspora which I absolutely love! The smaller, more intimate vibe makes it feel special. They even have a little café inside with coffee, tea, and lemonade!

Awesome little book store and they sell coffee too. Support our small bookstores and coffee shops!

In D.C. visiting for work and got the chance to do some strolling and happily stumbled upon this book store. Let me say 2 of my favorite things are coffee and books and this store has both! It's not a large store but they use the space very well. Towards the front of the store is where they have the coffee shop. I ordered a latte and it was good. I don't recall the cashiers name but she was very helpful. I enjoyed walking around the store and seeing all the black authors in various genres. I also purchased a coffee mug that I can't wait to sip my coffee in. If you're ever in the area, it's def worth checking out.

As per my usual I was looking for a last minute gift sometime back in May but Mahogany Books did not let me down.

I had to give this bookstore another review because of the interaction that I had with them…read moreregarding a hold I place some weeks ago and recently visited to pick it up. It was smooth, I was in-and-out with my purchase, and the staff per usual, was their fantastic self! Love love love this place!

Made a trip down to visit Friends to Lovers, and although the store was cute, the customer service…read morewas not the best. The shop had a great variety of books and bookish items from stickers to clothing and everything in between. I loved looking through each area. There was also an author there signing books and some seats throughout the store to sit in. However, I wish the staff was more friendly and attentive. When we were ready to check out, the two staff members were chatting to each other and didn't even acknowledge us waiting to buy our books at the counter. I placed the books down and greeted them politely, and the staff member directly behind the register didn't greet us, continued their conversation with their coworker and just started scanning books without even looking at us or acknowledging us. It was the staff member to the side who then started friendly conversation, but again, the cashier didn't really say much of anything besides our total and if we wanted a bag. Neither of the employees even mentioned the author who was there signing books, and there was no info (at least that we saw) in the store about the author, the book or signing event. I kind of felt bad for the author. Around the store, there were also little signs about books and what they were about, etc. Except, for a large number of them, there wasn't any stock of the book it mentioned. I wish they would update them or remove them if the book sells out. There were a few where I loved the note and wanted to grab the book, but then it wasn't on the shelf. I want to support small businesses and absolutely love romance books, but the customer service really needs improvement here. Sadly, this experience doesn't make me want to come back.
