    Duck poutine
    Michelle O.

Awesome poutines! Got their large duck poutines and frites alors (bell pepper, mushroom, bacon). Both were good but the duck one gets a little monotonous in flavor after a while. They were generous with their duck though. Each of their large portions is good to share for 2 people as a meal. Love their squeaky curds, generous sauce and crispy fries.

If you are looking for authentic no-fuss no-muss poutine, this is the place our Quebecois friends swear by. And it did not disappoint. Frites Alors is a chain with locations along the hip streets of Montreal; this location on Rue Saint Laurent was convenient and close to other well-known Montreal eateries like Schwartz's Deli and a Juliette et Chocolat branch. First, Frites Alors endeared itself to me by using a font from Tintin comics, and the perfect aroma of well-cooked and seasoned fries that enveloped us upon entering. The standard poutine is Le Vladimir (a nice pun on the name "Putin"); unfortunately there is a poutine named after George Bush with steak (please change the name, Frites!). We each had a Stewart's Cherry Soda and La Frites Alors Poutine, with peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The veloute and fries and cheese curds tasted great together. The cheese especially was so authentic. Don't order anything bigger than a small unless you're sharing.

Early morning, what's better than a quite bite at Frite Alors. My boyfriend and I finally had our first taste of poutine in Montreal. We ordered the classic poutine and ate it on the go since we had quite a number of destinations to hit up. Hot poutine in the morning is amazing. Fries, gravy and cheese curds is just the perfect match made. I liked how the gravy tasted, light and definitely not to overwhelmingly salty. Pair it with the fries and cheese and I was having an early morning orgasm in my mouth. So far, the best poutine I had in Montreal. But I certainly will keep looking.

This was my first poutine experience. The food was really great, the waiter was extremely friendly and suggested we order the Montréal. The Montréal was covered in gravy, meat and of course, cheese curds. I think I enjoyed the cheese curds more than anything. I learned that you must eat the poutine quickly because towards the end of the meal, the fries were soggy and therefore, not as tasty. The dish was big enough to split between two people. The atmosphere at this spot is super cool and I enjoyed their selection of local craft beers. I recommend checking out this spot, especially if you're a poutine virgin. However, I cannot speak for those that are poutine veterans because I'm not sure how the fare matches up to other poutine delights.

Being a tourist - enjoying authentic poutine in Montreal and washing it down with a local blonde ale

Service was great, would have given 4 stars but the price was a little high for the food ($60 for a sandwich + large poutine, 2 beers + tip)

We decided to go to Le Charleville simply because of the great terrace they had, no other reason. What a lucky day that was for me Starting with the wonderful staff that greeted us, we sat at the prime seat on the terrace. A beautiful summer night. We ordered from the Table Gourmand menu as suggested by our server. It began with the freshly baked bread basket. Followed by the best Sweet Potatoe soup I have ever tasted in my life. Rich and succulent, it tickled my tastebud just from the aroma. Next was the Salmon Tartare and the Shrimp Cerviche. We shared these simply because I wanted to experience both flavors. Soft and delecate seafood paired with mango and tomatoe served in a beautiful martini glass. The tartare served with croustinis of bread, such a performance to continue my meal. I ordered the Mussels with "chef sauce" which turned out to be a delicious "Madagascar sauce" warm, with decadent flavors and aromas and my partner had the surf and turf, which had big lush scampi and melt in your mouth steak. After sadly finishing the bowl of mussles, the sauce was simply too good to go to waste so we threw in the french fries, took the rest of the bread and sopped it all up. What a great idea. The trou Norman in between meals was the perfect palate cleanser. We finished strong with a warm pear dessert with ice cream. I met Stephane the Chef, and described how wonderful our meal was. Since then I have been talking about it to everyone who will listen. A great great restaurant in a place you wouldnt think to go. Stop by and visit. Tell them Chef Peg says Hi.

Besides beer they have a few wines, scotch, bourbon and full bar as well as snacks, hot dogs and sandwiches. We ordered a bread and cheese snack which was a soft, brie like cheese and warm baguette. This was a very tasty snack. My SO got a spicy hotdog which he very much enjoyed. All the staff were friendly and the area clean. There are two restrooms down a hall near the bar, each is a 'single person', one men's one woman's. Located in the city, parking is on street, paid lot or garage. I recommend public transportation, bike or walk. This very laid back, easy going, beer focused business should definitely be on your list if you enjoy craft brews.
