I'm surprised that I have't yet written a review of Fromagerie Kapuskoise yet. I've called out their cheese curds for being awesome in a prior review. We've been going there for the last few years, while visiting family in the area, and have purchased from them at the Royal Winter Fair and from a couple of specialized retailers in the area. I honestly cannot say that I dislike any of their cheese - but for me the Mattagami and the Missinaibi are my favourites. On our way to Nagagamisis Provincial Park, we couldn't help but stop by a charming local Cheese Shop. Well, the Fromagerie Kapuskoise makes their cheeses on site, and they will take you on a small tour to show you how their cheese is made. Then, they generously let us sample every single cheese that they produce. Our favourites: 1 year aged The Mattagami (so good, crumbles like a cheddar and with a little bite); The Kapuskasing (with ash - reminiscient of the cheese that I ate years ago, while hiking in the Pays Basque)); The Saganash (creamy and full- flavoured). Both the tour and the website are filled with information about what the Fromagerie has to offer. OK, Yelpers, you should just go to Kapuskasing right now and try this cheese! Seriously! I am already planning my return journey next summer. I will be Katya of the North! We haven't had a chance to go to Kapaskasing yet however our local fresh food market has brought in some of this amazing cheese and I highly recommend it it's the best I've ever eaten!! This is true North Strong..and Quality to the max!!! read more

I had some of their cheeses at a conference in Timmins. This is incredible artisan quality in an unexpected location.

For the last few years I've been traveling to Kap in the winter for work, and last season made the mistake of not stopping here. Last week we went in on a lark, and I ended up leaving with some of the best cheese I've ever had. It really is spectacular stuff, even the swiss that was the result of a happy mistake and ended up as part of the best Quiche Lorraine I've ever had. Absolutely, you must stop in! read more
