We live in Modesto, CA and Michelle helped us plan our wedding from 700 miles away. Our first meeting was professional as well as comfortable. My self, fiancé, dad and step-mom met with Michelle at Starbucks and she had a folder of information ready for us, we worked through a preliminary budget, helping all parties to understand exactly what the wedding we wanted will cost. I was very upfront about my budget, $10k, and was given the same courtesy from Michelle about their rates. Her rate quoted to us for day of planning was $2k in 2010, but she gave us a discount because the full $2k was not in our budget. Michelle gave us unlimited email contact from the day we met and was available for deliveries the day before and the day of the event. The email contact was very helpful. Each time I got a finalized contract from a caterer, photographer, party rental facility, etc. I would email it to Michelle for review. She helped me to negotiate services into my contract and reminded me of anything I had forgotten to ask. The service provided the day before and the day of the wedding was fantastic. Michelle came to the venue the day before to meet rental deliveries and set up all tables and chairs. She also ran the rehearsal even though we started about 45 minutes late. The day of Michelle was at the venue about 6 hours before start time, meeting all vendors, making all payments for us, making sure everyone in the wedding party was on time and knew where they were supposed to be. She offered moral support to me was available for anything I needed. My goal for a wedding planner was to have someone help my day be stress free. Michelle of YHD made this possible. I had a hard time with my dad accepting that we wanted/needed a wedding planner, he thought most of the wedding "wasn't necessary". He said we could have done everything without her, I don't think that's true for a second. I was sitting in my bridal suite, sipping on wine and water, waiting for someone to tell me it was time to start. Without Michelle, I probably would have been setting up candles, flowers, checking on the food, is there enough ice at the bar, in a robe, with my hair half done, while my guests were arriving. The bride…read more(my daughter) and I met in person with her twice to design the two bouquets, reception centerpieces, 5 bouts, 3 wrist corsages, and the flower girl basket. My husband and son picked up the florals just before the ceremony at Amanda's home office, our order was so small and the ceremony was nearby, so it was better to pick up the flowers ourselves. The one and only error on the order was there were supposed to be ribbons around each centerpiece vase. But we easily tied some extra ribbon around each vase at the ceremony venue. The bride loved the bouquets, the centerpieces were lovely, we were very pleased with all the florals. Amanda added eucalyptus leaves as an accent to the vases and bouquets, all looked beautiful. They truly lasted and were used on Thursday at both the ceremony and reception venues, then again on Saturday at a second informal reception at the newlyweds' home. Amanda is very creative and is a total flower nut, and I say that as a compliment. My daughter wanted a very traditional "look" and was a tiny bit nervous about Amanda, since she features very unusual florals on her website. But Amanda "delivered" with fresh and beautiful flowers in the right colors, the bouquets sized exactly right, and charming accents. Butterfly Petals gets an A minus, only because the ribbons were not on the vases as specified in the order. I would have no hesitation in recommending Butterfly Petals.

Multiple beautiful backdrops available for the big day. We chose the grand fountain but soooo many other great options. Even the little things. The decor and aesthetics were wonderful for the venue and the Arizona area. The area in the main part of the venue, were the ceremony took place was lovely and shaded. There was a fountain and surrounded by lovely trees and structures. As with all venues, hosting a wedding with a cash or cash-less bar, this venue fell into the same issue. The alcohol not in bottles or cans just had to be watered down. There is no possible way our friends and myself had as many vodka mixed drinks, we are talking about over 10 or 11 at least for myself, and never even got a buzz. This seemed to be the consensus. The other issue was just the layout. The covered area / enclosed structure where the dinner took place was large and spacious. It was decorated with plants and man made areas that were lovely and it kept everyone together, socializing, and simply having fun. When that was done we were moved to an area behind the bar/sitting structure for live DJ and dance floor. This was simply counter productive to encouraging that togetherness and partying. instead it had various separate and distinct fire pits with covered areas and seating around each one. This pretty much cause the wedding party to all separate into their own clicks and neither one really interacting unless you were directly related/known to them some how. The dance floor was a raised gazebo area, which was lovely. However, from where some of the fire pits were, you had no view of who was dancing or if anyone was dancing. We were having a destination wedding and she was able to meet us at our venue in Sedona, and then at the rental company location to pick out all of our rentals. I remember after we were finished at the rental company, my husband and I were driving back to Phoenix and we both felt so relieved to have Cara helping us. We realized that she had a plethora of knowledge and she made sure that we wouldn't be over-paying for anything. There were many emails and several phone conversations with Cara, and she was always ready to answer any questions that I had. I was not the least bit worried about the coordination of things for wedding day. Cara was well organized, and made sure she was well prepared and informed on our vendors, timeline, wedding party and guests of honor, music selections, decoration placement, and everything else you could imagine. She was also very good at keeping documentation of conversations, sent emails, and other pertinent information regarding the vendors. Starting a few weeks before the wedding, we handed over our plans to her and she reviewed everything and asked questions to make sure she know what we wanted. Her years of experience made her an excellent advisor on the last minute details, and there were at least two or three things we wouldn't have thought to plan for, but she knew. Here's an example of why she is great: what if your bartender thought the end time was 10pm, but we thought it was 11pm? And, by the way, it's 9:45 and they want to do last call. Tara is right there - she knew this was about to happen because the bartender had been coordinating with her all night, she knew our plan was 11pm, and so she approached us very calmly and quietly and asked if we meant to close it at 10pm. We said no, we thought it was 11pm and people were still having fun, so could we keep it open until 10:30 or 11 as planned? Off she went off and took care of it without another word or input from us. It took us seconds, not minutes of negotiating with the bartender, so we could get back to partying. All night, she kept track of time, kept track of vendors, set up those final details we didn't have time to setup, and many, many other unseen things we may never know about. At the end of the night, she had everything we were taking with us packed up, including leftover food and cake, so when the driver called her to say he was ready for us, she could let us know. When we were ready, she made sure we got the things we wanted to take and off we went. Throughout the whole day, we had nothing to worry about except enjoying the wedding. It was one of the best decisions we made, and I would do it again no matter our budget!
