Huge shout out to Dolan, he is the man! Had a great experience at Garden of the Gods with him as my guide. I had zero technical climbing experience and Dolan was so knowledgable and patient. He took the time to thoroughly answer ALL of the questions I had (and maybe explain them to me a couple times haha). He was also able to choose some scenic and super fun routes based on my abilities. I felt so safe and prepared during all the climbs as well. Such a fun way to challenge yourself and also learn a ton from the experts (if that's what you're interested in!). We had the most amazing time ice climbing yesterday! this was our 2nd time using this company and we will definitely be utilizing it again in the future. It was easy to set up a group reservation. With covid there were some restrictions but we worked it out beforehand and it was very easy. They communicated well beforehand with what we would need to bring with us, time we needed to meet and where including a google map link to the location. Our guides were great! they helped all of us get fitted with what we needed and also talked us through what we needed to do and had some standing by us the whole time and helping as needed. Could not say enough positive things about them. The ice wall in lake george area was great. There was 4 different levels of difficulty on the wall. And my group got to try several of the lines. We had the MOST incredible experience and we will definitely be back in teh future with the girl scouts again, probably next year. We took a large group (~15 people) ice climbing with FRCC in Colorado Springs yesterday. Our group included everyone from beginner climbers to experienced rock climbers, although none of us had ice climbing experience. FRCC (Dan, Joey, and Justin) gave us a truly fantastic experience. What impressed me the most is how well they helped and supported the true beginners and experienced climbers alike. For example, they gave individualized attention both to those who needed extra help and also to those who wanted to push their skills. One fun moment came when a dog belonging to one of us climbed halfway up the ice cliff. One of the guides climbed to the dog, clipped the dog into his harness, and carefully brought the dog down! The guides are highly knowledgeable and eager to teach. It was fun to see their eyes light up when asked about climbing gear and techniques. Speaking of gear, their rental gear was clean and well-maintained, and they didn't cheap out either--the ice tools were high-end carbon fiber tools. We were so thrilled with the experience that we plan to go again next month, weather permitting! read more

Wow! We scheduled a full day climb in Red Rocks as a lesson for our two girls and myself to be able to learn how to climb outdoors. We arrived early in the morning and met with Nathan who was, flat out, totally amazing! He had all the gear we needed, had great recommendations, and kicked us off with a fantastic climb that pushed us the right amount. This place was amazing and so accommodating! Our group of three purchased the 2 hour garden of the gods climbing package via Groupon. I used the online system and called them to confirm our 8am session. Then the day before the actual climb, our guide, Dakota, contacted me to confirm our meeting spot and gave us more details about the trip. The morning of, we got a flat tire on our way to garden of the gods from Denver, CO. I called/texted Dakota and the company. Isaac picked up the phone and was very very understanding and willing to reschedule us! (I didn't expect for them to be so nice about things since we got it through groupon.) we ended up rescheduling to the 330pm session. The main parking lot that we parked at was very crowded! So get there early and expect to loop around at least 10 times before finding a parking spot. Then we met up with Dakota and walked to find a nice empty climbing spot. Our group of three ended up on our own little "private" climbing trip since we were the only scheduled for that time! Dakota was very professional, calm, and patient with our group since 2/3 were new to climbing. He taught the two guys in my group how to belay as the other climbed. It started raining a little over an hour into our climb, so we had to end early. Dakota suggested we call the company to get a partial refund but we refused since they were so willing to work with us through our car troubles and the rescheduling earlier that day. My fiancé and I climbed in Garden of the Gods with Jeff this morning 10/1/2020 and had an awesome time. After some very cool sport routes, ranging from slab to a vertical spire we did an ascent of one of the tallest features in Garden of the Gods and then rappelled down. Anybody interested in Outdoor Rock Climbing but don't know how to go about getting involved? Take a outside guided tour with Front Range Climbing Company! I recently came across a deal for a 4 hr guided tour at Mission Gorge of the Mission Trails National Park close to San Diego (I love Travelzoo). This company also offers rock climbing classes for various levels in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and San Diego. It was super easy to call and make reservations for the San Diego location. I have never done outdoor rock climbing, but I've done it at the gym a few times and had a blast... I'm still considered a beginner. The night before, I got a confirmation call from our guide (Diego). We discussed weather, clothing, snacks, and meeting location, equipment, and experience (or lack of). The first thing I noticed when we all got to the meeting place was the emphasis on Safety - "Safety First." Diego introduced our helmets, and the rest of our gear. Next we hiked about a mile to the rock climbing site. There was about 4 of us in the group - nice small class. Also, Diego was really good about providing general knowledge about climbing, and the trails. Diego showed us how to tie knots, the art of rappelling, and always checked us to make sure we were properly tied off before we started climbing. Each one of us got a turn at climbing various levels of rocks. We each made about 3 different climbs, and we all had a great adventure. The only sad part was that I wanted to continue to climb, and the 4 hrs ended too soon! This was such a great introduction to rock climbing for beginners! My 13-year old daughter and I are avid gym climbers but when we were in Colorado we wanted a taste of outdoor climbing. Dan was a great guide! I've had the pleasure of using Front Range Climbing for both rock and ice climbing and I couldn't be happier. Both occasions were prompted by my climbing buddy finding them on livingsocial/groupon. The first was a trip to Garden of the Gods, a sojourn we knew we had to made when we learned those gorgeous rocks aren't just for lookin`. It was just the two of and our guide (whose name, alas, escapes me after waiting so many months to write this) was knowledgeable, accommodating, and friendly. He started us on something simple to let us get familiar with the nuances of sandstone before ramping up the difficulty. By the end we had triumphed over our first (terrifying) outdoor 5.10- on a route we would have written off or missed without him. Our two guides for ice climbing were equally obliging to our climbing levels and goals, starting us off simple and encouraging more challenging routes as the afternoon wore on. A day that began with no ice climbing experience at all ended with us scaling a number of frozen waterfalls of various difficulties (Coors Light is the name of the area, though I didn't check if that's owing to the ice wall's Clean, Crisp Taste™). The gear they supplied was solid and the prices were right, but the guides themselves are really the treasure of FRC. Every single one we encountered was as passionate about climbing as they were skilled. Be ye veteran or novice, you will have no qualms about having an FRC guide on the other end of your rope. read more

A friend of mine from the East Coast came out to Colorado for winter adventures. In addition to going skiing, she'd picked up a groupon/livingsocial deal for an FRCC ice-climbing course in Colorado Springs. The day before the class we realized that there was a possibly major snowstorm heading into the Denver and CO. Springs metro area. We called FRCC to check on their cancelation policy, and were quickly called back by our guide, Josh. Josh talked to us on the phone at length letting us know what they were expecting down there for weather, and told us how they handled potential cancels because of weather. He also left it entirely up to us. In short, he was amazingly helpful as we figured out what we were going to do. We stuck with the trip, and arrived a tad early at the meeting point. Josh had all our gear, got us set up, and took us for a short (half a mile?) hike into the woods to get to the climbing spot. Let me just say this: Josh was amazing. Great instruction, funny, helpful, knowledgeable, patient, understanding, and everything you'd want in the guy who's sort of holding your life in his hands as you're clawing your way up a 20 meter wall of ice. He could not have been better. The whole process was smooth, easy, and a ton of fun. I'm not sure I'd do ice climbing again, even though I had a blast, but I'm already 100% committed to coming back to check these guys out for a rock climbing session in the summer! We were extremely new to rock climbing, but Dakota was very patient with us and taught us basic fundamentals in rock climbing. It started to rain about hour and a half in and we had to prematurely end our session. Our guide recommended that we get a discount because he had to end the session early, but we declined since he met us up later in the day when he didn't need to (and still met up with the one person for that 10 am session!). We decided to purchase a Living Social deal for Front Range Climbing Co without knowing much about the company. However, after reading through the amazing reviews on Yelp and Travelocity, we knew we were in good hands. We met our instructor, Lee, at Garden of the Gods (CO) Parking Lot 10 early Saturday morning. Quick tip for Garden of the God climbers, familiarize yourself with the park before going... got a little lost trying to find the lot! For Lot 10, stay on Juniper Way the whole time, don't take any turns and you'll run into it. We also met the other two climbers in our group and completely lucked out. They were at the same skill level as us and totally fun! Lee got down to business right away and put us on the rock. I'm sure they can tailor each climbing course to the group, but we chose not to focus on the technical info and just get climbing. Lee directed us as we were actually on the rock - no sitting around listening to instructions, we dove right in. We wanted a challenge for our first climb and he absolutely delivered! He was incredibly knowledgeable about not only climbing, but basically all things mountaineering. He gave us great tips and tricks of the trade to help us get through our first climb, as well as prepare ourselves for any future climbs and hikes. We would HIGHLY suggest Front Range Climbing Co! Our guide, Lee, called to check in with my friend (who booked the trip) the day before, so he already had an idea of what we were up for when we met in the morning. While the three of us came in with different levels of experience (including one total novice) Lee got us up to speed with the basics, then pointed us toward climbs that we could handle (but which still made us feel pretty hardcore). Buying a Groupon for a 4 hour Ice Climbing Class through Front Range Climbing was one of the best decisions I've made. The company was very easy to get a hold of to book a class and to get information from. Due to a major snowstorm, the first trip was canceled and they were very accommodating with my schedule to rebook since I was only in town for a week. They actually kept in contact with me the whole day prior and the morning of the cancelled trip to track the weather to see if it was possible to climb and re-booked it when it was decided it was too risky to go. The gear provided was good, you would only need to bring warm clothing (think snowboard/ski gear) and all the technical gear was provided. They will call you the day prior to get your size and tell you what to bring and where to meet. For the actual trip itself, our guide was Andrew and he is awesome! He was very knowledgable and very passionate about climbing. It ended up being only my sister and I going with Andrew and we were the only ones at the wall.
