I've passed by this spot for ages and always thought about hiking to the summit. I finally made it happen! Parking is a breeze and right at the trailhead. There are tons of signs to guide you all the way up. This hike is really easy, making it perfect for families. The views from the top are amazing! You can see the entire west side of Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, USAFA, and Pikes Peak. It took me around 45 minutes to reach the top from the parking area. read more

Tons and tons of trails, some along a graveled path and others more narrow and all over the park. A couple of parking lots to park in. There are maps around the park too but the amount of trails are confusing. If you know where you're going though, it's easy to get there. I used all trails and it was a good call cause the off trails are very confusing. read more

Omg this hike was such a nice leisurely stroll up to the top compared to most others, which for a non hiker such as myself was very exciting. It's not just a straight sidewalk up to the top, it's pretty easy switchbacks with a lot of shade coverage. I think it was only a mile up to the rocks too. The view is gorgeous and getting to the rocks at the top felt like a sense of accomplishment. Parking was a small dirt lot but it looked like other lots weren't too far way from the trailhead. This non-hiker would definitely do this Colorado hike again. read more

Very nice in town nature walk/hike by university village. There are lots of beautiful sunflowers in the summer and I saw some deer here last night! This is a perfect place to watch the sunset and would be a very romantic spot for a picnic & sunset date. I clocked the whole hike as just under 2 miles and about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace not counting time spent at the top. Pretty easy to do and very gradual incline. read more

One of my favorite hikes and top 5 hikes in Colorado Springs. ! It's easy to do but can be difficult depending on what way you take it. Pulpit Rock is about 66 million years old so it's super cool. It's 6621 ft in elevation it's short but quite a workout. Be careful during the summer there have been known to be more rattlesnakes. I have never had an issue and the climb to the top is always my favorite. This hike is also kid-friendly and I have taken my daughter multiple times ! They do have loose rocks so make sure to watch out. Sitting and meditating at the top is one of my favorite things to do. You will not be disappointed by the views. This hike is usually never busy so if you are visiting for a short time this is a hike you want to check out. read more

I have never been one to wake up early, but the beautiful view and the breeze made it worth it. The kiddos and I have become hiking adventurists now living in the CO Springs area. We're a military family that love free things to do and hiking in CO is our fave! We've seen this rock many times and decided today, on a beautiful day to try it out. I have 3 kiddos ages 5, 7 and 9. This was a medium hard hike because it was slippery with some snow in a few parts, loose gravel/rocks and some steep parts. They got a little dirty have to scoot their way down a few times, but enjoyed the hike both on ascent and descent. The views from the top are amazing! The colors pop here in CO and we LOVE it! This is a spot we'd consider taking our family and friends from out of town to. Perhaps we may even take a family photo here for a future holiday card. It was a relatively short hike, a little challenging at times but worth the trek! read more

Beautiful park with amazing views! I've been here a few times now and each time it's never been crowded, so it makes for a peaceful hike and I like being able to let my dog off leash. I have come from the University Park open space route but before I knew that it connected to the park, I drove over. There's a couple different designated parking areas that were easy to find, and again, it wasn't busy so there were plenty of spots. There's a lot of different trails I've gone on but none of them are marked so I just take one and see where it goes, I haven't been lost yet. read more

Gorgeous park right in the middle of the city! Most people just hike up to the rock from the bottom (probably a 30-45 minute walk) but this Park is very extensive and has a very large network of pathways. If you have the chance try to explore the ridge and all the valleys as they offer a very diverse scenery and the chance to spot some small wildlife. Watch out for dog poop. As always in COS dog owners show themselves to be very disrespectful to both fellow hikers as well as mother nature. Bag your poop and TAKE IT HOME (leaving it bagged on the side of the trail is def not the answer SMH). read more

This is a fantastic place to hike. It's beautiful, natural and not very difficult. I brought my kids who were ages five, seven and nine and they all did well. I just had to warn them not to jump off rocks because it's slippery and I didn't want them sliding off the edge of a cliff. Amazing views from the top. I would recommend bringing a picnic lunch and sitting up there, eating and taking in the view. It would also make for a fun date night. Go up and watch the sunset, bring a bottle of wine! read more

There are some decent trails at the base of pulpit rock and cool city views from the top. For those who like to listen to the soothing sound of I 25 while you're hiking, it's right next to the freeway. The parking area was not clearly designated that you were at pulpit rock and the parking area was very small. I think maybe ten cars max on a busy day. Maybe there's a different place that's the actual trail head that's designated? But I did not find it anywhere by walking the trails looking for it...No trashcan to throw away your dogs poop. Dogs need to be on leash at this park, but I did see a couple people with off leash dogs. Not very many people here, so that would be pretty easy to do without worrying about running into other people. Trails for any level of difficulty you might be interested in. Overall, it was OK, but I wouldn't come here on a weekend expecting to find parking and personally, I like other trails that give me equally nice views with more of a hiking feel to them. read more

We did this hike yesterday and loved it. We live around 3 miles nearby and find it very convenient that this is here. We wanted to do St Mary's falls but it's like a 35 minute drive there for us and it's been raining on and off. That may be a disaster for us to get there and not be able to hike much. Pulpit Rock is visible from the highway so we've been wanting to climb it. Parking is kinda odd as we found the start of our trail in a neighborhood so we had to park on the side of the road. Anyhow, it's pretty mellow until you get closer to the actual rock. Then it gets steeper and a little strenuous. Once on top you get a magnificent view of Colorado Springs, the mountains, and some cars of course. This may be our new regular hike. read more

If your looking for a quick hike in the Colorado Springs area then Pulpit Rock Park is the place to go. Located right off of i25 (on apple maps it is on Austin Bluffs Open Space), you can park in one of two small lots on either end of the BMW dealership to hike on up the top of the Pulpit Rock (looks like a rock castle from the freeway, my opinion of course). This hike will take you 15-45 minutes depending if you're looking for a workout or just to walk at your leisure. The view from Pulpit rock will offer yet another beautiful view of Colorado Springs and a different perspective of the area; try it and you might like it! read more

We "accidentally" ended up climbing this one day. We had read online you could hike the circumference of the park but never did figure out how. I'm so glad it didn't work out and we hiked to the top! Beautiful views from the top. A little slippery going down the north side but we just took slow and went on our behinds when needed. Saw plenty of people with dogs out there!! Nine of us from 50yrs young to 9 years old took a morning to climb Pulpit Rock. We had done zero research, just new it was close, and headed up with water in tow. Once we reached the base of the rocks, we realized it would take actual rock climbing ability. I leapt up and scampered to the top but the rest of our party was hesitant. They trekked back down and took a path around the base, towards the east (I think, or just back) to the trails that took less actual rock climbing ability. All nine summited Pulpit Rock and felt pretty proud of ourselves, considering each of us are from Texas! Lol - it was a great first hike adventure! read more

My dad and I enjoyed a quick hike up and back. I don't know which "trails" we took, but we did a mix of wide and narrow, rocky paths. We only saw 6 people and 2 dogs this morning. (Wednesday 6:30-7:30am). There are no trash bins so please take your garbage out with you. read more

If I rank Garden of Gods 4 stars, 3 stars is the best I can give this, but I do recommend every one give it a try. It's easy to get to, but not much parking if too many people come at same time. The trail is supposed to be a loop but like many trails, not marked so our family ended up taking a harder route to make it to the top. Wear HIKING BOOTS because it is slippery on the sandy areas, my sneakers made this hike much harder as I was always worried about slipping especially when I saw a guy take a bad slip. My knees are not so good anymore so I could not make the very last portion where you would have the top view but there were plenty good views where I stood. read more

I couldn't tell from the previous Yelp posts that this is not really a hike. It's just 10-15 minutes up to the pulpit! There are a bunch of trails that wind away from it into the surrounding neighborhoods so you could still make it a longer hike. Since it is literally right off of I25 it is so fast to get to and if you are driving past Colorado Springs it is a nice place to hop out of the car and spend 30-45 minutes stretching your legs. This is one of our favorite spots to visit, the kids have so much fun discovering new paths up the "rock" and having a picnic up there. THERE AREN'T ANY MARKED TRAILS...that being said, wear good hiking boots or gym shoes you don't mind getting dirty that have good traction. The big rocks can be slippery, and there is lots of gravel and dirt that can make some of the climb up tricky. There are rattle snakes to watch out for, and cactus that grow in clumps along the trail and on the climb up, so pay attention! There is an awesome flat plateau that is wonderful for a picnic for two or yoga, that was my favorite part! The EASIEST way up is by taking the LONG WAY: there is a path that begins by the front of the rock, south of the parking area. It winds up the less steep side of the rock, and is good for smaller children. The path that comes up the NW side of the mountain is much more steep, and not so easy to follow on the way back down, especially if it's been raining recently! I posted some pics to help map out the two trails we found. There aren't many places we found that allow you to free climb, so we visited here twice during our trip! It's also a nice hike to the "hill" that is connected by a sort of land bridge to the SE of the rock, my kids made a workout of running back and forth as fast as they could. *The closest picnic food we found was a hot dog and Greek food shack down the street (~10mins south of rock, same street), just past Walgreens. read more

Kind of sketchy. It's across the street from a shopping center, so right in town. It didn't seem safe to leave our car there as there wasn't really anyone else around and it could've been broken into. There are much better trails in town to check out. I wouldn't waste time here unless you are really bored. read more
