I guess they're like any local eatery: sometimes they're at their best, sometimes not. I went in last week right as lunch rush was ending & it was bad! The waitress had to decide to clean up or wait on me! I could tell the cook was tired: the plate was just thrown together. The burger fixings were piled helter-skelter on the plate and there were a few leftover fries sliding around from edge-to-wherever! The fries were cold and the burger was way too dry! Well, after a couple of years of doing without, I thought I'd try the frontier cafe again. BIG MISTAKE. I went for my old usual, eggs benedict with crispy hash browns and crispy bacon. It's tough to find a good breakfast place in Missoula. So we decided to drive to Stevensville and try the Frontier Cafe. So glad we did. First off our server, Tasha, was great. And we loved the dog-friendly patio. Breakfast was very good with thin, flavorful pancakes and good hash browns. We also enjoyed a delicious slice of warmed cherry pie ala mode. Ok, you may say it's crazy to have pie with breakfast,but life is short. The crust was perfect and the ice cream was rich and creamy. We can't wait to return. read more

Alright, it's been a while since I went to breakfast and walked in around 7AM. I found a seat by the door and the waitress was prompt with the menu and coffee. She gauged correctly when I was ready to order and brought coffee soon thereafter. The place felt homey and comfortable. Even though I hadn't been here before, it felt like I had. It's not a generic vibe it's more of a comfortable familiar vibe. The food was exactly what I expected and was at my table in 10 minutes. The toast was perfect and the bacon and eggs were cooked perfectly as well. I was going over plans for a business meeting after I ate so occupied the booth for 20 minutes when I was finished with my meal. The place wasn't busy and I asked the waitress if this was OK. She said no problem. I can't say enough kind things about her service. She was prompt and friendly. She came by with coffee multiple times. Just a fantastic server with a perfect disposition who would be an asset to any company that manages to hire her. I left a 6 dollar tip on a 14 dollar bill and walked out feeling like I should have left more. I enjoyed my stop here - it's a classic American diner... and I will be back. Looking for a place to have lunch on a Sunday. Good luck in this area because majority of restaurants are closed on Sunday. I had the Montana beef dip which was very tasty and tender meat. French fries could have been hotter. My wife had a taco salad good but nothing special. They were very busy so food was a little slow coming out. Service a little slow as it was packed. Small roadside community cafe. Very homey . Staff seems to know half of the people so they are repeat customers. Good hardy food. My favorite is the Montana beef dip. I also like the corned beef hash for breakfast. They close at 4:00 pm so can't really do for a quick dinner. read more

My daughter and I ate here and OH MY GOODNESS. My daughter ordered the steak and shrimp combo, steak well done (she gets that from her father) and I ordered the fried chicken. The steak was done and SOOOO JUICY. My daughter cut into it and the juices just ran. The fried chicken? WOW!!! So tender and juicy and loaded with flavor. I highly recommend over CJ's Den. I had been regularly coming to this place for the last 2 years and I had always brought my service dog in with me (along with a few other people including veterans, etc) this morning I went in there for a quite breakfast. My dog doesn't typically wear his service badge unless people ask him to wear it. I walked in and this bitch of a waitress that has seen my dog in there so many times before and has never had a problem with him up to this point was very rude in telling me no dogs allowed so I go back to my truck and put his vest on and go back in and sat down. Then a few minutes later this army veteran walked in with his service dog. My dog was completely fine until his dog barked at him and this triggered his protective instincts and he backed up to my legs and barked back. And all of a sudden we had to leave or the cops were getting called. But yet had no problems with the army vet and his dog that started everything! Gave it a try since I live nearby. It reminds me of a cafeteria of a church, etc. That is, it has metal tables and chairs. There is literally nothing even at ordinary level. I ordered biscuits and gravy and coffee. The biscuits were soft which was ok, the gravy was good as was the hashbrowns. The sausage patty was ok. The coffee was really weak which was a little surprising considering the menu implies that you would want more than one cup with free refills. They did provide spoon, knife, and fork along with ice water without asking. That was good. Now for the service, I can see they don't get many new people there. That is, they asked if I wanted bacon, ham, or sausage. I said sausage. Then, they said links or patty. I took the patty which was good for a sausage patty. It was only when I got the explanation for the $3.50 higher bill. Appparently, I was supposed to know that the question about what meat I wanted assumed that I knew that I was being upselled. Not the end of the world, but a bit of a surprise at approximately 30% higher bill. The cashier and waittress seemed surprised that I even brought it up. I rarely give 5*. But in this case, it is due mainly because of the staff. An older lady, who comes in frequently, seems to suffer from issues of aging. None of the employees were wearing masks and no social distancing was enforced. They staff was slow and rude even though it wasn't very busy. The environment just made it miserable.
