The coffee was not good. The person I was with got a different coffee order, but we both felt that they both just tasted like they just poured black coffee in our cups instead of making our order. I've really tried to like this place - I come almost every time I'm in town over the last 5 years. Coffee never meets the mark; espresso is nearly always burnt and milk quality is poor. Again, the shop is well organized and has space for meeting others and working, but the coffee leaves a lot to be desired. I've recently discovered both Mineshaft and Red Rooster and I like both a lot better than Big Creek - would highly recommend one of those locations vs Big Creek. I was recommended by a family member to try this place. I got a breve that was very good! The pricing is very reasonable. The staff was friendly and efficient. There was a decent amount of seating but not a large amount. All in all this is definitely a place I would recommend going to. read more

What a fun find! The staff was incredibly helpful and their recommendation for the maple brown sugar latte was outstanding. Wonderful coffee and terrific atmosphere. It's a great place to stop for a Cafe Americano while taking a break from shopping in Hamilton's charming downtown! The pastries and quiche were fabulous! We had an affogato one afternoon with salted caramel ice cream. HIGHLY recommend that as well! BCCR is a must stop coffee shop! Out of 6 days in town, we'll be there at least 6 times. In our trip to Lolo, we took an afternoon to drive the Bitterroot Valley, checking out a house of a friend's and just toodling around. I guess that's just a bit better than toddling around. Anyway, we hit Hamilton after 5, and I was working the yelp, and yep, we could just stop in for a decaf something before we began the drive back. Now ages ago I read about the owner, a former (or as most former attorneys say, a "recovering" attorney) who'd ended up in a sleepy Montana town and started roasting coffee beans. Wonder if he throws in a Trust or lawsuit with that. (And yeah, I'm recovering, too.) Anyway, we got there right before they were closing and I ordered a decaf Mocha (hot) and the Hubs got his iced. It seemed like it took forever, but the results were nothing short of wonderful. Bottom line, the barista took her time and made me a lovely drink. Same for my husband, or so he said between "yum" and a few contented sighs. Not a lot of folks in there, but it looked homey and inviting. There were just a few cookies left, but it was near closing, so to be expected. read more

Went there this morning for coffee and pastries. Ordered two scones keys and two coffees. They only do pour over for coffee which is fine but it took 20 minutes to get it. They let my pour over sit while they were waiting on drive-thru window people. And when I went over to ask is it ready she looked at it said no it's still dripping which it wasn't I said it's done and then with a snarky type voices thanks for waiting. There's a coffee and pastry bakery actually just west on the same block that is much better would not recommend Big Creek. read more

I love this place so much! The coffee is delicious, the staff is super friendly and fun and they have Big Dipper ice cream in the summer. They were very covid-safe during the height of the pandemic and made it easy to order at their walk up window if you didn't want to go inside for whatever reason. I stop at Big Creek Coffee Roasters every time I'm in Hamilton. Love their ambiance, coffee, tea, goodies, service...all of it amazing.

Randy L., the owner/roaster at Big Creek Coffee, makes some of the best coffee in Montana, with the laserlike focus of the former barrister that he was, just without the same billable hours and no neckties to get caught in the machine while roasting. His semi-regular newsletter and periodic email updates keep you informed of new shipments and holiday specials, in addition to his various comings and goings when he leaves the Bitterroot Valley on occasional wanderings, like journeying to Hawaii in search of affordable, high quality Kona coffee beans to import back home. The sacrifices one must make in order to craft the perfect cup! The bagged beans are excellent and come in a full range of roasting levels, from light to robust, and the staff are very happy to offer you advice on which to choose and will make a pour over from any beans on hand if you ask them. Bags are basic brown and can be composted, burned, or repurposed. You can order online as well and shipping with Priority Mail is fairly inexpensive, and Montana doesn't charge sales tax for food items, so you can enjoy the beans even if you're not in the Hamilton area. The espresso blend at Big Creek is extremely good and a source of pride for all involved, and if you have never had a really good espresso, without milk, sugar, or soy, this is the place to try it! Baked goods are made locally, from Red Rooster in Hamilton and the muffins especially are really nice. There also is a very good local chocolate made for Big Creek by Posh Chocolates in Missoula, which makes a good gift as it uses Big Creek beans in the blend. Beyond that, the store itself is located in an attractive section of Main Street that has easy parking, sports some lovely views of the mouth of Blodgett Canyon (the Bitterroot Valley's answer to Yosemite), and is within walking distance of Hamilton's seasonal farmers market on Saturdays once the snows have melted and the harvest season has resumed. If I had to pick a perfect day to spend in the area, it would include a morning trip to the market, a coffee pit stop at Big Creek, and then a hike to the Blodgett Canyon overlook, followed perhaps by a thirst-quenching beer at one of the area's microbreweries (my favorite is Wildwood), some birdwatching at the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Sanctuary (which has great views of the mountains from the river walking path) and then an early dinner in Stevensville at Mission Bistro. I'm sure that the folks here would offer up their suggestions, too, along with the great cups of coffee and complimentary customer wifi (helpful for looking up things on Yelp).
