Frontier Fence installed a driveway gate and some chain link fencing for us a few years ago. They did a great job. I recently had a minor issue with the driveway gate motor after the gate ran over my garden hose. I couldn't get the gate to close after that. July 17 2020 7:10 a.m I am driving my husband to work i am (9 months pregnant) and this big black pick up truck stops all of a sudden. Mind you we are on 11th and West Valley Parkway two small lane road. I was going straight and this guy just stops in front of the house that he is taking measurments on. My husband tells him stuff out the window and the guy just walks past doesnt apologize or anything. Completely ignores us. Come to find out this is the OWNER of this company. Extremely poor customer service. After spending close to $30k getting our property fenced in with Frontier Fence, I contacted John to inquire about adding an additional section of fence. I got an abrupt and rude email from John saying that he wasn't interested in working on our additional fence. After asking to elaborate further he continued to ignore my emails and had no further follow up. It seems as if they are only interested in big $ projects and don't care about taking care of existing customers or repeat business. We recently had Frontier Fence come out to quote a fairly small but somewhat complex fencing job (multiple sections with gates with various materials). We wanted a stucco-footed fence with brick-topped columns and sections of wrought iron bars in between the columns, and a wooden gate. We also wanted a second fence for the other side of the house with the same materials and then a very simple wrought iron gate. Everything needed to match the stucco and brick on our house as well as existing property line fencing. It's a bit misleading to give Frontier Fence all the credit, since apparently they don't do stucco and they don't install wooden gates, but they were able to bring in a subcontractor to handle all the masonry, and then they came in to do the iron work (we were on our own as far as the wooden gate). The iron work they did was great, they worked fast, and they helped coordinate the masonry work which was spectacular. They were quite busy so we had to wait several weeks, but I think it was worth it, and the price they quoted seemed very fair. No, not dirt cheap, but fair -- these are legit people, and they need to make a living too. We also wanted a small adjustment made after the fact, and their crew came out just a few days later and made it at no additional cost. They're a family-type operation, so they don't have a huge office staff, and if they're busy, you might be stuck waiting for quite awhile for them to become available. But if their work for us is any indication, it'll be good solid work done by people who know what they're doing, and at a fair price. read more

We have used Frontier Fence three times over the past 19 years, they did great work, so naturally we chose them when we needed an estimate to replace our fences. John, who came out to give us an estimate is sadly lacking in follow through and communication. He emailed me, as promised, the day after he came out to our property and stated he was declining the bid, no explanation. I emailed him back and asked why he might be declining the bid...no reply, after another email, and a phone call, I still haven't heard... Let me start off by saying the fence looks nice. That's the reason for the 2 stars the rest is all garbage from here. I called Scripps fence and frontier. Frontier came in lower and now I understand why. First off, the guy who came to give the quote seemed nice but asked me what color do you want your fence? To where I said the same as my back fence ( the third side is cemented) The work gets done 3 weeks after I agree to it. Not awesome after El niño did it's damage ripping my fence in half. Now let's get to the job. They advised me the job would be done all in one day. I've never had a fence done in the 3 homes I've owned so I didn't know any better. They come to remove the fence and then leave my yard wife open and they knew I have dogs. Ummm what? I had to call to get a temp chain fence up which they didn't charge for misquoted time and laughed at me thinking it could be done in a day. Oh don't worry, the prickery gets better. 2 days later they come to do the fence and it looks nice but they put it closer to my palm trees that the last fence was. When I asked why,the answer was I don't know. Fine not a big deal. The neighbors share with me saying their fence barely opens and closes now and scrapes. I know it wasn't like that because I have gone in their yard with their permission when I got the quotes. I call and they say about the neighbors fence and I quote, "and? We didn't work in their opening fence so why should we fix it. I sent them picture of the new post they installed while on the call to show them how the post is leaning on their fence. The guy sighs and says "fine, I'll send the guy back out there but you should know his work is impeccable. " I said while he is here he removed some Posts that were next to my trees to keep the branches from growing can he place those back and replace the drip system line how it was? He chuckles and says, heh, ya. I also asked about when they come back to paint it and he said we aren't. I asked well you asked me what color I wanted and I told you I wanted it to match he laughs and said we don't do that petty work. We don't stain or paint fences. I said well I wish you would have told me not sure why you asked the color I wanted. My fault for not asking more than that I guess. So my neighbor let's me know it's fixed and working the way it was. I come home to take out the trash, now the door they replaced doesn't close and is now tight. What the heck? Impeccable huh. Time to call again and of course Posts and drip line aren't taken care of. I take pictures and video and call back to let them know my door doesn't close now and his response is "is this ever going to end?". I said yes when you get it right. Is this how you treat your customers? You give a warranty and don't stand up for the work you didn't do right the first time? He says look I fixed your neighbors fence for free what is it that you really want? I said I want good customer service and for you not to act like a price because I have legit concerns. 2nd I just want it to work right since I paid 3 grand on a fence that operates like crap so if you don't want to correct it and honor your warranty I can Cal my credit card company and dispute the payment you chose. He says I'll send the guy out. No empathy no nothing. Guy comes out while I'm not home because I went out of town and he calls me relentlessly saying nothing is wrong with the fence your car is there and you aren't answering your door so we are leaving. Do I need to be there so you can see if the fence doesn't close yourself. Aren't you fence experts? Fence still doesn't close right. We recently had frontier build us a 40' or so section of simple cedar dogeared fencing in our yard. They were able to do the job quickly and were pretty painless to deal with. I'm always amazed how much fencing costs but Frontier's estimates were towards the lower end of that still-high pricerange locally. Overall I'd say the work quality was a solid "B" on an "A" to "F" scale. The things I were most annoyed by was that they used nails instead of screws, which I think is kind of weak, and they obviously didn't set a leveled string across to run the nails on a line on; they just drove them all over the place in a ragged line. This isn't a high-end fence we just put in, but it's little stuff that in my mind knocks the work quality down a notch. Also they shattered and left one of my sprinkler pipes which I think is kind of shitty. A pro fence company should know how to work around sprinkler pipes and though I'm sure one gets broken from time to time, they could have pre-empitvely repaired it before it flooded my yard. After complaining after a quarter of my yard was totally underwater they came out and remedied the problem at my request; but it's still not as good as that not happening as all. That water could have caused a lot of damage if our drainage wasn't as good as it is. These two paragraphs are going to make it sound like I was really unhappy and that's misleading--they built a decent fence with a few exceptions and by all accounts they appear a good solid reputable company so long as perhaps you're not expecting work *quite* as good as if you were doing it yourself. Good selection, decent prices, but office staff is not real patient. The first staff member (Tommy the third?) was awesome, but he told me is in normally in the field. The second trip I had some very impatient guy that was on the rude side. When I corrected the quantity, he insisted I gave him another number. I was also told a 10' section would require an extra fee. Previously I had been told that the sizes I needed would not require a fee. After the pipe was cut it was left on my bumper to load myself. I had asked for a stair railing quote and never received one. Company seems to be lacking in customer service concept. read more

I've had work done by FFC, and I've gone to them to bid on fencing. The work already done was to my satisfaction. But the latest bid ... I left the office feeling that it was exaggerated with a high number to discourage my business; at least, that was the impression as I left the shop. Perhaps its just the verbal delivery by the person I spoke with, or that it was late in the day and they were ready to leave. Frankly, given that the place looks like it was designed and decorated by Fred Sanford, I was really wondering by what reason they had for such an outlandish bid. Received a quote from them for a backyard fence as a safety barrier for our pool install, a couple months ago. When I informed them we were ready to proceed with the project, I was told that the original quote was no good and that prices have increased so much so that I would be shocked by a new quote. They said they don't want our business. Didn't even offer a new quote. I understand that prices increase, and was expecting it. But wow, to flat out out say they didn't want our business was very unexpected. Never have I been told that by a company whom I want to give my business to. John came out, told him what I was looking for with my HOA he understood measured the job we talked for a bit, a few texts and that was it until I heard back from him that the fence was ready to install. Tommy took over after that. We set a date his crew was coming out to install the fence. They were early they got there before I got home. They started become that. They had to walk all around to the end of the street and walk back up to my house talk about A+ effort. There was 3 guys there. They had half of the fence installed when I showed up. OMG the fence was amazing just what I was looking for. If you are looking for an A+ Job start to finish these guys are the ones to call. I had gotten a few quotes prior to this one to have 2 gates and a fence redone. The guy who came out for the quote impressed me and they were right on par with the other quotes so I chose them. BIG mistake. The communication has been a joke. The ONLY time I had warning of when they would be out (day- we arent even talking time) was for the quote and to place posts. We weren't warned it would take 2 days for them to set (which ok our bad for not asking I guess), with a puppy we are trying to potty train definitely threw a wrench in things. The problem was no communication about next steps or what to expect. Fast forward to when it was "done". The gate was on backwards (although it had been confirmed with multiple people which way it needed to swing). We called that day (Friday) an hour before they closed and didn't hear anything until Monday. They put in a workorder to have it fixed. A few days go by (Friday morning) and suddenly I get a call that morning theyre a few min away to fix the gate (luckily I work from home or the dogs would've been out and I would've been PiSSED). So they take it off and replace the post and leave (no communication again when they left). So we call the office to find out that they were planning to put it on Monday. I told them this was unacceptable at this point as with 2 dogs we need to have a heads up. They decided it would be okay to put it in that afternoon instead (apparently that post didn't need 48 hours to set). So they put it in. Attached are the pictures of what they considered "finished" and ready to invoice for the remaining amount. I called again and left a voicemail that day. No response. So I called the following Wednesday. Im convinced no one answers the phone as I had to leave a voicemail. They returned the call this time -however as I have to work and can't always answer their call (cause I'm taking calls for work) this became a matter of phone tag. So I sent an email. And for once I got a quick response and it was stated they would just redo the gate itself. I said that's fine but I need prior notice so I can unlock it. That was last week. No word until this morning at 9:30 that they're here and need in (but they tried calling a bit ago and it went to voicemail- note that they didn't leave a message though so no proof they called on my end). So here we go again. Nevermind the fact they cut the post from the old fence off about an inch from the ground so now we have a tripping hazard as well (the fence was moved forward). And for all the hassle we've had to deal with, no offers to discount any of the clearly subpar labor or anything else.. Definitely do not recommend! read more

Well two months later after multiple phones and being told he will call me back and never called me back; I finally got an email (after multiple emails) from administrative assistant she tells me they are declining to do the estimate, since the project is not something we can/are willing to do at this time ---- WHAT! We asked for a partial of the fence and a gate. They are a fence company correct? So I called to speak to someone regarding the email no one was of course available to speak with me I have never dealt with such a disrespectful business before. Extremely poor costumer service. I scheduled an appointment for an estimate on a simple fence replacement at my home in Rancho Bernardo / Westwood. After waiting over two weeks for the appointed day my wife receives a phone call on the morning of from the project manager advising us that Frontier Fencing would not be able to come and give us an estimate because they no longer due business in the Westwood area because of undisclosed problems. I can respect their choice to do business where they please but the waisting of my time and there curt matter a fact unapologetic communication leaves much to be desired. When my wife asked why we were not told this when we made the appointment ? The response was "it was a clerical error". When the guy showed up, he was not willing to listen to what we wanted and basically outlined everything they didn't do and told me that we should put up a chain link fence. I asked him to put a quote together for a wood post chain link fence and he quoted just the chain link fence. Their prices were 2X as much as 2 other companies who quoted me what we wanted and could start right away. I had two gates installed into my existing fence. They were custom iron gates that were each 25+ feet long. Frontier fence made the gates custom for me and did the installation for a very competitive price. I got two bids for the job and frontier fence was the cheaper of the two. The gates were installed very professionally in 1 day. From the time I placed my order and gave my deposit it took a few weeks because they were so busy but I wasn't in hurry. In a nutshell, this is a professional company that has been around for 50+ years. Its a family business thats in it for the long haul. I would definitely do business with them again and would recommend them. My father in law also used them for a huge 30 foot gate that was installed excellently. Frontier installed the fence at our home. Several of the boards were nailed up crooked and were warped. Several more had significant knott holes, and all of the nails rusted and bleed down the fence boards with the very first rain. When we called Frontier about the issues they kept promising to come out but never did and after a while stopped responding to our emails and phone calls. They told us that they use galvanized nails so they shouldn't have rusted, but every single one did. Their solution to the problem was for us to paint the fence. If you were frustrated with their customer service and did not choose them for your fencing job...consider yourself lucky! read more

Unfortunately the soonest they could come out was 10 days or so later, as I am sure there were hundreds of people with similar issues. I gave them 5 stars because they took this small job and handled it expeditiously and the result is exactly what we wanted. Frontier Fence Co built our wrought iron fence enclosing our back yard 28 1/2 years ago. The base of a post rusted out recently. I had checked Yelp and saw some pretty critical comments about Frontier but I stopped in their office when I was in Escondido last Friday to see if they would be interested in such a small job. They were not only willing to do it but said if I had pictures of the post they would tell me how much it would cost. I had taken pictures but didn't have them with me so I emailed them later that afternoon. On Tuesday they emailed a cost proposal which we accepted, and Thursday morning they called and asked if Friday morning at 8:00 would be ok. They were here at 8:00 and the post, one supporting a gate, was complete, including its new concrete base, in about two hours. So now, in less than a week from our first contact with them, we have a gate that closes and locks properly to secure our pool rare again. It looks great. The cost was below what we anticipated, and the people couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. read more
