What an inspiring place! Frontier Nursing University is just a amazing place to be. From its History to its current works, one cannot cease admiring this place. I like its location on top of the hill, but I think it can be dangerous to get there during the winter with the snow. Started with a small, hospital, it grew to become one of the very inspiring school that draw people from all over the world. Each student register in this University has to take online course for 16 or 19 months depending on their status as full or part time. From there, there they come on campus located in Hyden, Ky for 8 days where they get to practice or exercise a sort of stimulation. The student body come from all states across the country. I found it very interesting that each class get to design something very authentic and unique for their generation. For instance, a particular class can decorate a room or a wall in the dormitory that symbolizes their promotion. There is also a chapel in the school that was build in 1961, and serves both the school and the community in multiple ways. Community member hold their ceremonial event such as weddings and stuff. The chapel also as a traditional bell that students ring when they get on campus, leaving campus and when graduating. Being a visitor I felt very privileged ringing this traditional bell. read more

Fabulous university in the mountains! I was really swept by surprise when I saw the setting of the university. It is unique in many ways. It has rich history, special courses and friendly employees. Michael J. Claussen, tour guide, gave us a thorough introduction to the university. The setting, the good sight from the university and the fascinating fields of Nursing are some of the reasons that are motivating me to apply to this university after I earn my RN degree in Berea College. I touched Florence Nightingale's platform stone, in the lobby of upper class dorm, as a sign of good luck. Mr. Claussen said students believe touching the stone leads nursing students to success in their studies. Success comes by hard work but everybody touched the stone anyway. The dorms are so small. One room is for two people with one rest room inside. The students are really creative in decorating their dorm rooms by drawings, pictures and so on. Absence of a designated parking lot is the main problem in the university. Scholarship/fellowships are given to students in need. I am over halfway through DNP/FNP program and couldn't be happier with this institution. They truly are here for the success of their students. I have a BS economics, MBA, nursing degree and now this program so I have 3 other institutions to compare and this is by FAR the best. I work FT, have 2 toddlers and a newborn. My wife works FT and I still have time to complete my studies at a high level. The school is accredited in almost every state including NY which is no easy task. The institution has a rich history of community support and learning going back to its founder Mary Brechinridge who is the Florence Nightingale of the US. If you are a busy RN who wants to further their education look NO further, this is your home!! read more

What an amazing treat found in the mountains. The Frontier Nursing School is home to one of the most unique programs in the county: Midwifery. The students here are able to complete the curriculum as they enjoy their lives at home. For eight day, the students have to take classes on campus , but most of the curriculum can be complete online. The school has grave historical value and you can seen see some of the original building still standing round campus. The chapel that was built in 1961 is a small yet quiet location where the visitor can have a calming experience and learn about some of the ceremonial activities that take place in this one room chapel. read more

Y'all out here letting students into your midwife program when all they talk about on their Facebook is weed. I would not want my midwife doing drugs while taking care of me. It's already bad enough that she is allowed to teach nursing students. Sad.. and very disappointing. Let me cross this university off my list. read more
